I didn't mention it before, but Iwaihime  or Chaos;child getting translations would make me very, very happy. We need more denpa in general

Hi again! Thank you all for your kind and warm welcome! I feel appreciated already
I'm excited even for Sona-Nyl, Sorcery Jokers, Hapymaher and Himawari! Well, practically almost everything that Mangagamer is localizing lol.
Yeah, my vndb is mostly filled with a lot of highly praised VNs as of now, because they were recommended everywhere and I thought to start with the "best", even though I'm still missing certain novels like Chaos;Head, Ever17,  I/O, or Sharin no Kuni that I'm really interested into.

I'll admit I tend to be a bit more forgiving, particularly with initial offerings (as best I can tell this is one of the first works the developer put out, if not the first). Could be I try to find the good in what I'm playing and if it's there I'll sometimes let it overcome some of the bad, hence the 3 rating. I really do dig the sprite artist's work and some of the voices were really good. I like the concept, but their approach fell flat. The combat was painfully boring, waiting forever for some rocks to fly at me got pretty old after one time. And paying for your teammate to use a skill was really dumb. I mean, I doubt Navy SEALS or Green Berets or any professional military organization makes you pay for a strafing run or tactical advice (they may grumble that you owe them a couple beers, though) so that part really irked me a bit. Like, "Well, sorry protagonist, you couldn't pay for the strafing run so I'm gonna leave you to die at the hands of a Rubik's Cube." I mean, even if you just got one free activation of a skill would have made more sense.
But that not losing stats for sleeping? Seriously. Loved that. I really hate sims that penalize you for sleeping, especially since they all force you to sleep every night anyway.

Nice review @Valmore, I agree with most of what you said but personally I didn't like this VN-RPG hybrid at all, I am not against "choose your waifu simulation", but this game literally killed it for me ... My major gripe with this game wasn't the voices or the setting or the art ... My major gripe with it was the boring RPG and battle system (and as you said, preety uninteresting "aliens") ... I played it for 3 hours and ditched it alltogether, at first I thought about completing at least one girl route but I decided against it, too much boring, I might have done it if it weren't for such a boring system in place, and I might be wrong but I remember that sometime ago I played a similiar "choose your waifu" simulation but it was far better than this game, it wasn't boring like this ...
I could tolerate the voices, even the Cornelia's but I couldn't tolerate preety boring love points system and how you earned reputation with the girls by being a simple errand boy, I waited to see if something interesting is going to happen but no, even when you unlock the city, it's still boring, and the game doesn't even mention on which days you can't date the girls (I losed some "love points" because I didn't know that on some days you simply have no control over the character, that's when I unlocked the city, I losed the points because I took the so-called "quests" and didn't finish them on time) ...
The combat system was preety much boring, and that "pay the girl" system got me laughing hard when I found out, preety retarded in my opinion, I am personally not against introducing gameplay elements to VNs but when they are bad like in this game, I'd rather prefer it if they stayed only in the VN genre xD ...This game isn't Rance and it isn't Aseila, I preety much hate it when they mix VNs with bad RPG elements or they implement it in the wrong way ... Oh, and what's up with those high numbers O_O I was confused why did they pick up such big numbers for items like for example "10000000" or "5000000", why all the zeroes for God's Sake O_O They could have just said "10" rocks or whatever the value ... All in all, preety boring game, I rate it 2/10 ...
And preety much agree with @littleshogunon his statement.

This list won't feature the VNs in order of "how good they are". Rating them would be way too much of a clusterfuck to me.
The VNs are not in their respective order. Meaning number 1 is not the best, and so on.

    3_G-Senjou no Maou

    5_Forest
This Visual Novel is the easiest visual novel translated to get a bad ending without using a walkthrough- which just adds to the fun of it. It makes a massive amount of references to common literature, which makes it even better.

    6_Katahane
It may seem like an ordinary moege- the atmosphere is light, the story is full of cuteness, which you can note by the character design and soundtrack. It gets really good in the middle, and you'll be dying to know what happens in the end. A game with multiple perspectives, it's definitely one of the most enjoyable Visual Novels I've ever read.

It lacks in the ending, but otherwise the story of this VN has enough to easily become one of my all-time favorites.

There are small sections of gameplay on this one, but you can skip them by pressing the space bar, so this still qualifies.

    31_Sengoku Rance
I feel obliged to comment on this VN before suggesting it to anyone. It's an Alicesoft title, which speaks a lot for itself... If you don't know how it's going to be like, well.. Kind of tough to describe. Lots of sex, including comedy rape. Alicesoft tends to make the whole story a comedy until right near the end, where things actually do get serious. It's worth checking out, if you don't mind Rance's personality.

    32_Phenomeno
Want a short VN that can captivate you for their whole duration? Here is it.
Visual novel adapted from the youth horror novel written by Hajime Ninomae and illustrated by yoshitoshi ABe.

33_Ef- A Fairy Tale of the Two

    34_Dysfunctional Systems
Another one great for those who want short Visual Novels.

    35_Daibanchou
Another Alicesoft title. While Rouga is not near Rance's level when it comes to pissing off people, alicesoft's style is something which often doesn't please people.
    36_Yume Miru Kusuri
The endings pack quite a punch.

    38_Eden

    39_Hoshizora no Memoria

Yep, it's somewhat overrated. Still, the fact that it is substantially easier for those who are starting to play visual novels to read should not be discarded, and overall, the story was good.

Welcome~ It's always good to see new people. As someone who's studying japanese and has tried reading japanese VNs, if you use a text parser, it shouldn't be that hard to read basic nukige. As for recommendations, you should read Saya no Uta. It's really short and good. Fata Morgana is also amazing. Both of them have rather dark themes, and I'd definitely recommend them if you liked the tone and feel of Swan Song.

PS - If you favor 2000's VN, I think you better check my thread below (A little promotion here). But since you like I/O I would suggest Ever17 because one of the writer was also the one who responsible for I/O. Hope this help for the recommendation, and if you need more just ask us here.

Thanks everyone ... @akaritan I know about Saya no Uta and Fata Morgana already, they were preety much recommended everywhere, I know I will like them, but right now I am saving them for later, currently I am playing some older VNs, and I want to finish them before moving on, because I don't want to get used to better art and graphics, I have figured out that after playing some good looking VNs I have trouble looking at older stuff, for example, I tried the other day YU-NO and immediately stopped after an hour because I simply couldn't keep looking at it ... I believe that VN really is a masterpiece but I simply can't swallow that DOS-like interface and everything, that's why I am into playing mostly 2000s VNs, from G-Collections ... The last DOS-like VN I was able to swallow somehow was Divi-Dead and even then I couldn't bother to go through all the endings, I just read spoilers for it because I simply couldn't torture myself with it anymore ... I preety much know about all dark translated VNs, but right now I am making a catalog of untranslated ones which I am planning on trying to play in a year or two or three xD ... As for the text parser thingy, I didn't experiement much with those yet, I do have VNR installed and I did test it out on some VNs but it's preety much useless if you don't know Japanese at least Intermediate level, and machine translation sucks but I do intend to use those a lot once I get some real knowledge on Japanese, right now I am still at the beginner level, and my first goal is to grasp at least 500 kanji, just the meanings, the readings are a bit harder though because each of them has at least 2 different readings and its best to remember those through vocabulary and that's what I intend to do, it will take some time though, but I believe I have enough will to go through this endeavour xD
