  1. I might be able to help on the anime side. Where's your watched list so I don't recommend stuff you've already seen? I watch predominantly romantic comedies in anime as I'm a sucker for a good confession.

    • They must become a couple (officially with a confession or unofficially if they just instinctively act like one) within the early first half. They can also start outright as a couple.

First half is hard since most romantic anime ends with the confession...

  2. True Love 95 - First VN/dating sim I'd ever encountered. I was blown away by the medium.

To Heart 2 - Such an amazing array of loveable characters, I spent 7 years of my life slowly translating my way through the game almost alone. It's fair to say this had lots of impact at various times during my translating the projects, the biggest being the annoyance during Sasara's route and the absolute obsession I had with Lucy's route.

Heart De Roommate - need a spoiler tag to explain why such a light-hearted game would have an impact:

First silly happy visual novel I played that sent me into a week long depression by almost every epilogue being sombre instead of happy and the true route character I loved the most had the saddest ending of all.

She had a life threatening disease for fuck's sake.

  3. any anime where the protagonist doesnt get anywhere with the girl and they are hovering within the friend zone for an eternity. So pretty much 95% of all animes. VNs for the f***ing win.

Absolutely. The only anime I watch with my wife are romantic comedies and yet it's so hard to find one that has meaningful progression and an ending. Even the ones that do have progression are rarely finished. I'm with you on the VN front there, after watching an anime with endless frustration I need to clear my head with a VN route that has an actual ending.

  4. I noticed I really like Rie Kugimiya's voice after my recent re-watch of MariMite. It may be partially because she voices my favorite character, but I think there's a feedback loop where she's my favorite character in no small part because of her voice acting.

Indeed she is a good voice actress precisely because she portrays her characters so well. It's even more amazing she can still play tsundere lolis given her actual age. That said, the ones I listed are voices I'd be (more than) happy to hear every day in real life for various reasons... (Hocchan sounds a bit like my real life wife).

  5. It took me a while to realise that one of the reasons I fell for characters when I started watching anime was as much to do with the voice actresses as it was the dialogue, plot, execution etc. I'm now aware that good VAs can take a decent show and make it exceptional, pushing up my ratings of it 1 or 2 out of 10 just on the voice acting alone. The more I've understood Japanese, the more I've noticed it. I've found myself recently looking for shows based on the voice actresses involved.

While there are lots of notable mentions, there are 3 voices which in my opinion are the epitome of what I like to hear in voice acting and wondered if others felt the same way or had their own favourites.

    1. Yui Horie - no one who has been watching anime for more than a few years would have gotten by without hearing her voice at least once. I was first exposed to her as Naru Narusegawa in Love Hina and that show was life changing probably mostly because of her. She has the most amazing uplifting sweet melodic voice that is heartwarming in almost every role she's played. I'm not really a fan of her singing but that's just the "machine" working on her popularity and just what VAs do. When she played herself in "Seiyuu's life" she was made out to be quite a simple plain person in real life which doesn't surprise me. She's also one of the older VAs so the roles she's doing are less and less the cute young characters. She's recently been in... well almost everything.

    2. Saori Hayami - the sexiest voice. The slight huskiness in her voice really makes it. I'd heard her a few times but really started looking for shows with her voice in it after hearing her in Oregairu. Just listening to her gives me a boner. Her most recent role is as Shirayuki in Snow White with the Red Hair.

    3. Kana Hanazawa - the sweetest voice. Slight cracking in her voice gives her an innocent quality which makes it loveable. Fell for her voice after hearing her in Nisekoi. Her most recent role was as Akane in Castle Town Dandelion.

There are lots of other notables that others will no doubt mention (Shizuka Itou, Rie Kugimiya etc.), but they don't really float my boat the same way. Do you have a favourite list or have you not thought about it like this before?

  6. I remember the scene since I've been recently rewatch each episode as I finish each light novel to catch up to where I've read up to. No I didn't think he was about to be an exhibitionist though I do think the LN and anime are both awesome. It's been responsible for me seeking out other anime where Saori Hayami is a major Voice Actress to hear her confess, and fortunately there've been quite a few. I can almost fap to just her voice... so yeah there's something wrong with me too.

  7. If it's just older heroines there is also "The amorous professor cherry" which has 2 older heroines and one the MC's age. It's also an older game but was lots of fun https://vndb.org/v157 It has an official English release with full localisation and uncensored (animated) graphics too. Very fapworthy.

  8. The old game "secret wives club" has all experienced older heroines though IIRC the MC was late teens. It's not exactly challenging reading with a protagonist that basically is satisfying lonely wives.

Thanks that looks cool, I hope it's not just some full on hentai game is it?, like is it romance and then some sex scenes with 1 person or is it full on harem hentai game?

I probably played this 10 years ago so my memory is not that detailed but it was memorable in its own way for me to remember it when you asked about older heroines. It's definitely heavy on the hentai element, but it's not purely a fap fest with relationship development. The plot description on vndb should give you an idea, but basically you choose one of the women predominantly and there is romance, even though they're married, since they're doing it with the MC by choice. Each girl ends up having a different sexual preference (it's all coming back to me now). There is also a harem route if I recall correctly where you get all of them. I don't recall there being any great drama in the story, but there is a lot of sex with mature women, and it has the added bonus of full localisation and uncensored art...

  10. Just to keep this thread alive..

Currently reading the H heavy 幼なじみと甘~くエッチに過ごす方法. Have a soft spot for the later team B-Y games even if their production values are not on par with big companies since they do ecchi sexual tension well without just being a nukige.

Finished up on this and it did exactly what I was hoping on the tension side. 3 girls, no bad endings, each girl has 2 alternate good endings and there's one harem ending. There was precisely zero challenging story line in this, it was a pure H fest.

I will probably be moving onto Sugar and Spice 2 next which was one of the 2nd hand bargains I picked up in Japan.
