Strategy game would be a good thing, but if you do that, give us more than one week.

Fire Emblem if you obsess over perfection (its H-Hard Mode requires it for full points, and once a character dies there's absolutely no way to bring them back (EVEN WHEN RESETTING THE CHAPTER, THE GAME RECORDS THE DEATH OF YOUR COMRADE)). Final Fantasy Tactics for the realism (you literally have everything down to which way you're looking count towards the battle). SRT for the awesome (awesome music, awesome battles, awesomely high difficulty, extremely awesome extra conditions for battle mastery, awesome character choice (character choice 1st game only)).
 
Anyways, if you're not into SRPG, Klonoa may be a better way to go. It's more like Castlevania, except this one is kid-friendly and relies on puzzles. Despite being kid-friendly, it's pretty fucking hard, so don't underestimate it. It's a real hidden gem, just like all the Rareware games.

It`s hard with Castlevania because it`s so open-ended, but with an RPG or something it might be best to just say `play to the xth boss` or `xth dungeon` that way we will all be on exactly the same page.

Aiyoku no Eustia's Caim is pretty amazing, but it's only 1/5th or so translated so it might be torturous to read it only to have to stop right when the story is picking up.
 
Umineko's Battler has his moments. A lot of them, in fact, but pretty much every character in that series does as well.

Sorry but you`re not going to find one. Furigana is only for stuff they`re expecting small kids to read. Stuff like Light Novels may have a bit of furigana for kanji that aren`t commonly used, but VNs are aimed at high-schoolers and above so by that point everyone should be reading all the kanji. The best you`re going to see is maybe one furigana every few hours to explain one of the more insanely rare kanji they put into the VNs.
 
However, almost all of the Vita VNs are full-voice, so all the dialogue will be voiced which will be easier on you than silent VNs or ones where only certain characters talk.
 
Sadly, the only full-furigana games that exist are things like Zelda and Pokemon on the DS/3DS.

I'm going to be a silly and suggest the retro group play a Disney game. Like one of the Magical Quest games, or the original Castle of Illusion.

A maximum limit for the budget we will need to buy the game.
 
I mean, if it is anything above $20, there is a very very very low chance I'd be able to buy it.
 
We should also determine a platform/ a series of platforms
 
Maybe we could also have a "retro gaming club" where people use emulators to play through retro games

The GBA really was an amazing little system. I remember buying one on launch day with a copy of Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (which, as launch titles go, was probably one of the best ones to come out in the last few generations). I popped the game in and was instantly blown away by the quality of the music. One of the first things I did in the game was throw a knife and watch as it was actually animated hitting a wall and spinning away. Then I  hit a bat with one and there was a little splash of blood from the bat. Forget being better than the GB or GBC, the system was like having a Super Nintendo in my hands.
 
One of my favorite things about it was the proliferation of niche titles. Japanese strategy RPGs were still pretty rare in America at the time, but the GBA had an absolute glut of them, and all of them were solid. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Tactics Ogre Knight of Lodis, Onimusha Tactics, and then from far out of left field we actually got Super Robot Wars Original Generations 1 and 2. AND we finally got Fire Emblem!
 
But the one game you just cannot miss on the system is Mother 3. If you have not played it, seek out a translated rom ASAP. It will seriously make you feel the feels forever.

That said, I wish they would put out an all-ages version with some workaround for not having the H-scenes so I could play it. I can't resist any game that heavily references Lewis Carroll.

Looks like we're finally getting some love for a yuri project that was stopped in its tracks for quite a while. I want to get a thread running to post translation status updates, though any interested parties could probably just follow @ClaymoreSmiley for updates.
 
But while we're waiting for updates we can discuss an awesome yuri nursing game that has kind of faded from the spotlight but can now come back due to it getting a sequel on the Vita.

On the one hand 'road trip with my bros' doesn't exactly capture the majesty one would expect from a FF plot, on the other hand good action RPGs are few and far between so I'll probably get one of my friends to buy it and play it at their place.
 
Squeenix seems to be very over-reactionary to customer complaints, I mean let's look at their recent decisions
