  1. 8/10 Adorable couple with nice art style. It's not a pirate X.x it's Othinus from Index.
  2. I'm gonna be oppositional here and say that TLR was NEVER about the romance and instead was a very well designed cash grab at people's ecchi side, which I still love to this day <3. I would say the just as equally rare trend is for any romantic development happening at all in any shonen that isn't strictly romance. We have way too many harems in trend over the past 8 years and its bothering. I was reading Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan manga and thinking "we got another harem here" (its a guilty pleasure) when all of a sudden chapter 10 happened and the main couple actually confessed! I was blown away thinking "wait... that just happened right? WHAT!?".
  3. Looking at the subs, I declare that song is actually pretty awful, not that I mind, I was just laughing pretty hard. It's on the same level of some of the ED's of Oreimo that Kirino sings, my favorite of which that always makes me laugh "Imouto Please!" Anyways, was there really a reason to necro this? Not that I mind at all (B-Baka!)
  4. If only it wasn't blatantly obvious the entire time (maybe it was just me?). It was obvious she was different from the rest after the first arc, and at the end of the arc before the Goddess arc, it became set in stone that she would win. I don't read enough of the genre's where this actually happens. As I mostly prefer action, usually there are only up to three females that seriously have a shot, and even then it's obvious that two of them are there as foils rather than romantic development. If I had to pick out the only notable time this happened, it would have been in a hentai named Power Play.
  5. 8/10 I had one of the original first release DS which also looked like that SP so it brings back good memories. (PS screw that damn hinge problem. I finally dropped mine onto concrete after 4 years and only that hinge broke.)
  6. If I can remember correctly, the movies have the same effective run time as the anime. Personally I watched the anime when it was out, skipped the two movies and watched the third before eventually coming back to the first two. I always endorse going with source material due to what I like to call "purity of information". The source material is what the author originally envisioned at the time, and thus less outside influence. This is also why I prefer sub, but that's another argument which comes down to personal preference. Either way, Madoka was definitely the anime that finally made me get off my ass and start building my anime OST that I had been planning. Ohhhh is the OST good, it's the first time I truly felt the music wasn't just background noise or meant as an adrenaline booster, but rather added to the ambiance of the show.
  7. I don't think I've ever seen a Ghibli movie o.O at least not a recent one. I think my favorite movie recently was Patema Inverted
  8. It's not practically, they DO. I tend to side on TVTropes for this one. Its a Schrödinger's situation. They both are in a superstate until you choose a route and after that it collapses into just one of them.
  9. True, but only half the time. Next person owned an original pikachu gameboy color.
  10. 7/10 It appears to be a screencap which bothers me because it's not square. Otherwise its portraking one of Koneko's cuter sides. I just added my avatar after 3 days of mind block on what I should make it.
  11. I'm claiming bias on the survey towards skewing it to the people who are registered and/or follow the site closely. That's fine and all, because that's who they cared about. In all honesty, if they wanted true data from the people who use the site, they should have made it a more prominent feature on the front page. I didn't know about it at all until I heard about it after the fact, and any random drop by guest would probably never see it either.
  12. Every time I see this, I immediately think "thats wrong!" while side referencing any other TL work like manga and novels before I quickly realize that it isn't because we can buy the games and get the patches for free, where you actually can't do anything about manga or novels. Basically the patch is the translated version and is liable to takedown claims at copyright holder's request. As a side note, I don't know of any other place that aggregates current translation progress so neatly, so I'm sticking around. Like I said to my friend: "Fuwa is 'dead'. They are basically bleaching out most of the non-registered users and replacing them"
  13. Confession: Last summer I laid on my bed for days on end only getting up to get food and bathroom. It was probably the cause of a GI issue I had shortly thereafter.
  14. Oh wow... So uhhh, does that mean your first language was Portugese? Uhhh if you didn't say anything I wouldn't have even checked your nationality... I feel more impressed that you are actually so fluent in english that it didn't even cross my mind. It may sound patronizing, but congrats o.O And yes, I fully concur, you can learn a language fluently without going to the country, however it does require far more effort because you need good natural resources to practice with besides just textbooks. Classical language and vernacular are completely different. I can generally pick out someone who classically learned english but doesn't use the vernacular making them stand out. It's like being overly polite when casually talking. On a tangent: I need someone to teach me ebonics because it makes no sense.
  15. They don't explicitly say it outright, but instead the situation and text references earlier text in the story where they do. It's really cleverly done and heart warming. It helps make the pain subside and give the final conclusion to the story.
  16. Confession: When I was in elementary school, the thought of a tornado hitting scared the crap out of me so much that I honestly think back and admit that I was probably mildly paranoid.
  17. This ending might have been one of the only times where i actually had the feels from any game. It's just too good. Also, if you paid attention to the story,
  18. True, I don't have a job and leech off my parents. Next person doesn't have enough tissues in their room when they read VN's.
  19. I'd argue that you're wrong (but that's your opinion) in that breaking the flow by leaving a blank is comparable to leaving out a word. When a character speaks, they speak in complete sentences, which is then ended in a complete fashion. Having them go cold in the middle of that flow is far more jarring then having a complete thought ended. But again that's just ____'s opinion. The second thing is that which I would call objectively wrong, is the fact that just because the VN's are unrealistic doesn't make it okay for the writing to be. If the writing doesn't match the setting, you have a broken narrative. Imagine a wedding scene for example, using the second person pronoun to address the main character when they are getting married would be absolutely ridiculous. You can only skirt around not having a name so much. I've never played Canvas 2 so I won't comment on that subject. It wouldn't be the MC, but rather every other character XD Here's another opinion: I think that animation of anything other than moving static sprites looks awful. I can't explain to you how many times I cringed while watching the background of SakuSaku's student council room door open and close with the characters moving with it. I much rather prefer the way Ell moved in My Girlfriend is the President.
  20. Too bad this is impossible with modern technology. Having any character attempt to voice the name would completely break any sentence flow due to it having to be procedurally generated for that specific situation. This would only ever work if all the other characters used the pronoun which would be highly unrealistic, or if the game was invocal which would also probably be incredibly unpopular. Congratz on your probably unintended implied unpopular opinion!
  21. Sorry.. I only specialize in feels~ Angel beats is a really hit or miss soundtrack in total for me. Half of it was irritating, while the other half sounded like actual music. These are the tracks I pulled from the two disk set: Disk 1: 1 2 5 7 8 15 17 20 22 24 25 26 27 Disk 2: 2 3 4 5 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 16 17 18 19 20 My favorite Anime OST's (the entire things) come down to: Darker Than Black Kamisama no Inai Nichibyou (A Sunday Without God) <----- If I ever do any kind of fantasy rpg, I swear I could parse this for everything The ENTIRE Madoka Magika OST (Screw me, this is the first show where I felt the music was beautifully additional instead of being actual background noise) Kyoukai no Kanata As a side note, I will generally pick up any Kajiura Yuki albums, because damn do I get off on her spin of classical music.
  22. I don't know, just basing it off the pictures (which is a horrible idea btw, but that's all you've given us) I'd get the first one. The second one looks like it's color had been bleached and for some reason feels more edgy (read sharper with with no smoothness). Also the second one uses those really annoying subs and have seemed to paste over the show. I'm in the field of less added, the better. On the other hand, if what Nosebleed said is true, and you pulled from a lot of different sub groups and the encoding is all different with number 1, go with number 2. Inconsistencies in that area can be really bothering even if you don't actively notice them. Plus with different subbing groups, they will translate things differently which can be annoying. Me? I would probably try to find the batch release of the first screenshots's sub group and see if it's consistent, and if so, take that one.
  23. Pointless counter argument to the jif fans. If you call it a jif, then whats left for the actual JIF File Extension? /thread : case closed.
