  1. Hey there, welcome to the forums. Random question, but where's that avatar from? Just curious is all.
  2. Having read the VN I can confirm the above. There's only one ending in MLA, what you pick doesn't really matter.
  3. Whoa, a lot more suggestions than I expected. You guys are pretty awesome. Thank you.
  4. As the title says, I'm curious if there are any good fantasy VNs out there. And by fantasy I mean swords, castles, magic, elves (optional), all that stuff. Well, it can be purely medieval as well, but you get the idea. It can be dark or more light-hearted, I'm not too picky. I'm interested in both JP-only and translated titles. I did some quick research and apparently Ikusa Megami Zero and Aiyoku no Eustia are supposed to be good ones. Any other ones I should be aware of?
  5. For me it went something like this: Acquired a solid knowledge of grammar and basic vocab via intensive private classes. My teacher was great so that went relatively fast, and I understood stuff much easier compared to Tae Kim. I know people swear upon that site but it just never worked out for me. I have a separate textbook focusing just on N1 and some N2 grammar as well, iirc it's called どんな時どう使う 日本語発言文型. Another book I used is マンガで学ぶ日本語会話術 + another one that I can't recall the title of right now, but it was basically a book preparing you for language exam material. Then I started playing JP games on my PSP and reading visual novels in Japanese for advanced vocab. Pretty much refused to play anything in English for a couple of months. Also played PSO2 and went out of my way to party with Japanese people, having to chat in JP really forced me to get better. I used Interpals for a bit for similar reasons. I also used to talk on Skype with a close friend to improve my speaking. For listening, I would watch anime and sometimes rewind certain scenes and listen again. I also had listening CDs that came with some of my textbooks. And I eventually became a fan translator. I think that's about all the methods I used. I admit I've been slacking off a bit with reviewing my vocab lists lately, but constantly reading VNs and being part of TL projects keeps my mind sharp, so it's not that bad.

    Hi

Hey there, welcome. I don't speak a lick of Spanish, but I'm always open to conversing in Japanese. We used to have a thread for it somewhere.
  7. I've been listening to lots of Uverworld and Chemistry lately, so I guess I'll recommend them. For reference, Chemistry did the opening song for Valkyria Chronicles 2 (got scrapped in the English version), while Uverworld did stuff like one of the openings of Gundam 00 or D Gray Man.
  8. "Failed to initialize DirectDraw. Terminating program." That's about it.
  9. Fantastic news. Already watched a full playthrough back in the day because I wasn't going to get a 360, so I know the story and such. But this is pretty much a day 1 buy regardless.
  10. Miku avatar, I approve. Welcome to the forums.
  11. As a translator I disagree with certain things you said but welcome to the forums nonetheless. Hope you have fun around here.
  12. Right, so I actually started reading this as well. Haven't finished MLA yet but my random guess is that I might be about halfway through (I'm at the point where "Unit 00" is first introduced). But it's been a while since a VN had me this hooked right from the start. And by start I mean Unlimited. Btw, boy am I glad I didn't skip Extra and Unlimited. Knowing all that backstory is making MLA so much more fun to read. And helps you understand the characters a lot more. Besides, Unlimited is pretty good imo, and Extra isn't nearly as horrible as people say.
  13. Definitely HOTD. In fact I'm up-to-date with the manga, too. Oh, and Seitokai Yakuindomo as well. Edit: And Ixion Saga DT. I just keep remembering one show after another. I'm not sure how to feel about this.
  14. Finished up Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi the other day and liked it a lot. It was a pretty unique and surreal experience. So now I'm back to reading Muv Luv, already done with Extra (it's really not as bad as people make it out to be...) and now making my way through Unlimited, which is pretty enjoyable.
  15. Kara no Shoujo 2 is fantastic and you should all be excited. Shame on you if you aren't.
  16. Welcome to the forums. I approve of the username. And yeah, there's not much point in diving too deep into Japanese before you know hiragana like the palm of your hand. That's something beginners should work on initially imo. Good luck with your studies!
  17. Predictable answer from me, but Muramasa. Not for its unpredictable plot twists, because it doesn't really have any (well okay, maybe a few, but still), but overall it's just a really badass, memorable VN for me.
  18. I suppose we weren't the only ones thinking that. This is beyond perfect.
  19. Based on your decisions. Edit: Against my better judgement, I'm trying to get through Muv Luv Extra. Also, after listening to the soundtrack... did they just rip off Ricky Martin's Livin la Vida Loca?
  20. You need to unlock them. Finishing Fate unlocks UBW, and finishing UBW unlocks HF.
  21. Every season of Aria. I basically feel like I became a more positive person after watching it.
  22. I've also been trying to force myself to play the Muv Luv games, seeing how MLA is like the #1 game on VNDB. However, such astronomical ratings always make me suspicious and wonder if it's tremendously overrated only because it's in English and therefore is accessed/rated by a wider audience, the majority of which is unaware of other untranslated gems. So basically it might be the best one out of the translated VNs, but there are better untranslated titles out there. I'm not saying that's the case, it's just something I've been wondering about. And after reading some posts here saying it's a 100+ hour time investment, I'm even more discouraged to put that much time into something that might not have the orgasmic payoff I'm expecting. I mean, if a game is going to eat up that much of my free time, it really has to be *insanely* good, especially with the huge amount of hype that's been built around it. tl;dr I'm highly skeptical but will probably play it anyway eventually.
  23. Finished the trial version of Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi. Interesting, I'm liking what I've seen so far. Also considering giving Caucasus: Nanatsuki no Nie a shot because I'm starting to show Innocent Grey withdrawal symptoms.
  24. Proofreading the already translated script, making sure it has good sentence flow and sounds natural in English.
