Hmm, I suppose. Saya was actually my first VN, which was pretty short, and I foolishly assumed that all VNs are generally of this size. Needless to say I was in for a surprise when I started Fate/SN. One more thing I didn't mention is that VNs also made me interested in translation, though I'm still very new to the whole thing and don't consider myself super great or anything. I run a blog (see sig) where I post all my translated stuff and other shenanigans. /shameless self ad

Nah, Gahkthun was actually my first exposure to the series. I saw Aaeru post a screenshot of it a couple of months back, and the art style plus the whole thing with steampunk Nikola Tesla sparked (oh the puns) my interest. I enjoyed what I've read of it, will probably continue on with it once I finish/get bored with Kara no Shoujo 2.

Psycho Pass episode 11 wins the prize in my eyes (if you've seen it, you know exactly which episode that is). Fate/zero's ending was fairly depressing as well. Other than that, I kinda want to agree about AnoHana, but I thought the series ended on a very positive/optimistic note, so I can't really classify it as *too* depressing.

Thanks. Actually, I wasn't a big fan of F/SN, I know many people love it but in retrospect I thought it was really dull (please don't kill me for that!). I only enjoyed the UBW route, in all honesty. Been wanting to soldier through the MuvLuv games, though. Sadly I'll never have enough time to get through them all, haha. Heard they're insanely long.

As for what I've read, mostly just these: Saya no Uta Full Metal Daemon Muramasa + Janen Hen 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors Kara no Shoujo Fate/Stay Night Ourai no Gahkthun (stopped after Chapter 1, but planning to continue it) That's all that comes to mind right now. And pretty much every Phoenix Wright game, if those actually count as VNs.

I started reading Kara no Shoujo 2 after finishing (and being pretty impressed) with the first one. So far I'm having mixed feelings about the sequel. I almost feel like I'm reading a completely different title, as it feels absolutely nothing like its predecessor so far. From what I can tell the narration will eventually switch back to the first game's protag, but still, I feel a bit cheated. Nonetheless it's been a decent read so far (although a bit on the boring side), but it's taking absolutely forever for the plot to actually get started...
