Zenophilious
Just wanted to ask a couple of questions about voice acting and actors in VNs. Does providing your voice for VNs in general (not just 18+ ones) make people think badly of you? I know not all VNs have sexual content in them, but almost everyone I've ever mentioned them to instantly thought of them as porn-esque, so I thought that people would look down on people that provide voice acting for them. Are there any famous actors, both in voice acting and regular acting, that have done voice acting for VNs? I looked up a couple of VNs I played, and I didn't see any famous people on there, even after Googling their names. Most didn't even have their own Wikipedia page. Just to be clear, I don't mean Hollywood celebrities; we all know that Martin Sheen has never voiced a character in a VN, sadly. I would pay money for it if he did. Do most VNs have voices for their characters, or do most just stay with plain text dialogue? Most of the ones I've play have voice acting, but a few didn't. Katatsumuri
Of the ones I have read, not having Voice actors is a rarity. And on the topic of repercussions of providing your voice for 18+ content: the reason that most of the VAs in VNs don't seem famous, is that they use pseudonyms. Some don't, but it seems that most do. I think that, as Guest stated, Clephas or Kaguya might be able to provide a list or more info. Nosebleed
When people judge you just because you say you provided voice for a VN without even saying what VN they're the ones with the wrong mentality. I do agree that making voice acting for porn VNs can be more damaging to one's reputation but honestly I praise the women that have the courage to dub stuff like that and put their names on it. And I'm sure there's popular voice actors for VNs. Asami Imai is one that comes to mind instantly. She hasn't dubbed any 18+ VNs as far as I know though. And I think there's more voiced VNs than non voiced ones. At least non-doujin stuff.
Clephas
Mmm... with otakus in Japan, VA's are generally honored on the same level as idols, though their private lives are respected a great deal more and there are no real restrictions on how they live their lives. However... the Japanese tend to put out a lot of mixed signals on sexual issues. For one, the taboo amongst traditionalists about talking about sex is if anything stricter than it is here. However, there is also a strong tradition of sexual symbolism in Japanese art (think Greek art, as it has some parallel similarities). So, since VA's are essentially 'wearing a mask' by not actually acting out the sexual acts, there would be very little in the way of a stigma on them amongst 'normal' people. However, it is a fine line... sexual issues are always touchy issues in modern cultures. derpigreg and Katatsumuri
derpigreg
Well there are. And most of the time, the VA used a different name. For example, my favorite, Nanjo Yoshino. She's currently the singer for fripSide and part of μ's as Ayase Eri, voiced as Akiho in Robotic;Notes and Otome of DCII (just naiming a few). What many may not know, on the VN side of voice acting, she has about 3-4 names. Some of her acting would be Ohama Yukino (The President is my Girlfriend) and Tia (Aiyoku no Eustia). As to where you would like to find out more, here's the link: General: http://gph.sakura.ne.jp/va_memo/system/vadb.cgi Nanjolno: http://gph.sakura.ne.jp/va_memo/system/vadb.cgi?action=view_ind&value=01215&namecode=3 (just keep refreshing if the error comes out)
Guest
Don't some actors use other names when voice acting on eroges ? The example I have in mind was the Michiru (Grisaia) voice actress which doesn't appear with the same name on the PC and PSP (IIRC) version. Izayoi Sakuya
Actually you have to consider japanese culture in voice acting. Voice actors are like real celebrities there, we're talking about a country responsible for 60% of the animation content in the world, so voice acting is a really big deal there. So the fact that interpreting an ero-scene can damage the reputation is not really true. (don't know exaclty how things work there, i'm not japanese, but i'm pretty shure i'm on the right tracks)

Speaking of which, who's your favorite seiyuu? Just a general fun question for all, I apologize for side tracking
Clephas
Another comment... the Japanese are the most sexually repressed culture on the planet (outside of religious orthodox people in certain faiths), but they are also the culture with the strongest fictional sexual entertainment industry. However, with anime being globalized and such, its best to play safe. After all, most parts of the world view ero-scenes and porn differently. Clephas
Some use pseudonyms for both, because they want real anonymity. It just depends on the individual. Edit: It is pretty obvious to those who have played a lot of games and watched a lot of VNs which ero-pseudonyms match the names of voice-actors in non-ero media. Because of that, I don't think it should surprise anyone that a lot of voice-actors only use pseudonyms.

Kaori Mizuhashi(Mami from Madoka Magica,Laharl from Disgaea and Navi from Zelda Ocarina of time)has done plenty of hentai as well(she is one of the heroine in the Grisaia trilogy.) Monmon
I dont mind if their hentai scene pretty vanilla for exp yuko goto and shizuka ito. Their provided voices for yukie n chris but heir h-scenes it`s more romantic than fappy type IMO. However one of my fav vn voice actor Serizono Miya who voiced sachi in sharin also voiced some rape tagged vn, its make me feel kinda sad but it`s their job what can we do about it. Zenophilious
Sorry for starting a thread and dropping off of the internet for a few days, I had to go to several routine doctor's appointments that all happened to be scheduled within three days and all almost entirely took up those three days. Really gotta plan my schedule better... So, even if the voice actors use their real names, they don't get judged the way they would if they were in America? If that's true, that's hilarious, since Japan as a country is extremely sexually repressed. Asami Imai has done hentai, obviously using fake names(she voiced Minato in Akane Iro Ni Somaru Saka, but got replaced by Aya Hirano in the All-Ages ports and in the anime). Kaori Mizuhashi(Mami from Madoka Magica,Laharl from Disgaea and Navi from Zelda Ocarina of time)has done plenty of hentai as well(she is one of the heroine in the Grisaia trilogy.) Checked up on Kaori Mizuhashi, and apparently the character she voiced from the Grisaia trilogy was Michiru. Ohhhh, that's why both Navi and Michiru annoy me. They have the same voice actress! [/joke] Apparently she also voiced Akane Suzumiya from both Muv-Luvs and an unnamed (at least on Wikipedia) character from Utawarerumono. Quite a resume. johnnysasaki
to be fair, plenty of voice-actors in America sometimes use fake names, but not because of porn, but because of Union issues(doing voice-works where their Union weren't paid may get you penalized and losing the Union benefits.)Steve Blum doesn't do that anymore, but he used to have lots of fake names years ago(David Lucas,Daniel Andrews,etc...) InvertMouse
Yeah, I think a lot of actors use fake names for eroge. I'm uncertain on this, but I hear that Japanese anime fans have no issue with their favorite actors being in VNs with H-scenes. Western fans on the other hand, I'm unsure. As for famous actors, I recall in Lamune, the main girl (Nanami I think) is voiced by Yuuko Gotou. Oh, but according to the wiki, she only voiced in the PS2 version. There are probably no H scenes in that one~
