  1. I would recommend waiting for a bit though, until they fix some of the more pressing problems. It's notoriously unstable on some systems (not on mine though). People have been reporting crashes every 2-3 turns, on my system I regularly get a CTD every 200-300 turns (more often on bigger maps), but the game autosaves every turn, so it's mostly been a non-issue for me.
  2. According to JAST's twitter, an announcement regarding the changes will be made soon, which is the right thing to do. It still should've been done before opening pre-orders.
  3. I'm currently wasting ridiculous amounts of time on this game. It's everything I wanted from a 4X, including some things I didn't know I wanted from a 4X. Sure, it borrows very heavily from Civ, but I love the direction they took with it. Everything is a lot less clunky, mechanics are streamlined without getting dumbed down too much, resource management is infinitely more sensible, and the fact that it's set in a curious mix of high fantasy, low fantasy and sci-fi world, and therefore not tied down by ostensible realism of Civ, allowed them to cater to pretty much every gameplay style. It is still rather bugged and unstable though, plus the AI is a mess and faction balance is questionable at best, but it looks like patches are on the way that will hopefully fix that. A really great game nonetheless.
  4. I hoped they had learned from the X-Change 3 and Kazoku Keikaku debacles, but it's the same shit all over again. I don't even care that much if stuff gets removed (although I don't support the practice), but for fuck's sake, DON'T DO IT BEHIND PEOPLE'S BACKS. My best guess is, JAST believe that backlash in case of an open announcement will be greater. Casual buyer who doesn't frequent community sites and such won't know something's missing. There will be less headlines and less negative publicity.
  5. I did my free Arena run as a Rogue. Won one of the games with a 16-attack Assassin's Blade. Rogue is so going to be Weapon-oriented from now on...
  6. You'll have to read all routes to get to After Story, which is the only good part.
  7. That heavily depends on what that length is used for. Grisaia had this huge, self-indulgent and unnecessary slice-of-life bit at the beginning that made me stall it twice (for half a year in total). Clannad was the same, only even more bloated (and with much, much less funny humor), and I still consider it a miracle that I even got through the whole blasted thing. If a scene fails to advance the plot or give additional insight into characters or circumstances, it's usually wasted in my book. Shorter VNs tend to be more focused and to the point (although that's by no means true in all cases). Saya no Uta and Crescendo are two great examples of shorter VNs I enjoyed. The flashback mechanic in Crescendo specifically was a very satisfying choice, it made the VN feel much longer than it actually was without detracting from the whole "last days of school" premise.
  8. I just don't really like hardcopies of anything except books, and that only because I find it very difficult and unpleasant to read books from a screen, it is a soulless experience. I haven't bought a DVD in ages, and most of my dozen or so CDs were either bought at the shows (which helps ensure that the artist gets a bigger cut from it) or were pretty much the only way I could support the artist. So essentially it is a compromise I simply have to make.
  9. Nope. I try to 100% a VN whenever possible, unless the VN is so bad that I don't have the mental resolve to complete it.
  10. I've got loads of things "representing something I like" in my room. Namely, 23 shelves of proper books and a few hardcover graphic novels (I'm not into manga though, so none of that), some CDs and DVDs, and my tarantulas in the corner. -_-
  11. Mostly experimental/ambient/industrial (The Legendary Pink Dots, Coil, The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud, Death in June, Current 93, that type of thing) or folky, singer-songwriter stuff (Tindersticks, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Elliott Smith, etc). I like a lot of different music though.
  12. My room (hell, my whole house) is completely 100% otaku-free. I don't own any manga, light novels, figures, anime DVDs, eroge hardcopies... well, you get the idea. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Everything is in my PC.
  13. Mind blown. I used to watch it as a kid, never thought it was Japanese.
  14. This bit made me chuckle. Personally, I consider being condescending, arrogant, both self-deprecating AND self-righteous (how does that even work?), casually misogynist and generally douchebag-gy to be a pretty serious flaw. But maybe that's just me.
  15. My all-time favorite novel is A Brief Life by Juan Carlos Onetti, but I don't recommend it to anyone. I used to, but every single person I lent the book to pretty much hated it. So don't read it. Main reasons why this novel is shit according to my friends: - It's too depressing. - The characters are too miserable. - There's nothing happening. - It gets incomprehensible towards the end.
  16. People actually like Yuuji? Huh. Anyway, I didn't see anyone nominate Suginami from DC (DCII in particular), he's great. Murakami from KIRAKIRA is another great character.
  17. 1. Yeah, I do relate to Gonda quite a bit. But unlike some people say, I'm definitely not Gonda. Not at all. 2. Not a fan of traps. Reverse traps are okay, but they can still be awkward . 3. Sharin no Kuni is one of my all-time favorites. 4. I'm not particularly into tans, sorry.
  18. I was bored, so I made an account here. I'm formerly known as RussoTuristo, I whine and complain a lot, I've been on the fringes of various VN-related communities for about 10 years, and I'm officially too old for eroge. Some of you may remember me from somewhere, but it's not very likely. Hi.
  19. Yeah, I can't be bothered to jump through hoops in order to buy something.
  20. I buy VNs readily available in digital form. In other words, I don't bother with DLsite and hardcopy-only releases (which means that I pirate pretty much everything fan-translated), but if it's available for purchase in English, I buy it.
  21. The entirety of Shuffle! and Tomoyo's route in Clannad.
