  1. rofl due to this unexpected greeting by Sakura (in D.C.P.C.) After I recovered, I clicked on it several more times to repeat it. Then I tried several times saying it out loud. Probably this scene is in the original D.C., too. It occurs on the morning of Sat. 3/2 Give it a listen, and let's practice our Japanese pronunciation of this wonderful phrase.
  2. Yeah, I took to it right away too. But, I'm watching it with a friend, have to wait until we can watch the 2nd half together. Meanwhile, I'm moeing it up with D.C.III and this nifty little comedy "Kono Naka ni Hitori Imouto ga Iru" One of these is my little sister
  3. Alas, it never made it to my neck of the woods back then. I wonder if you could find one of these machines anywhere in the U.S...
  4. Hmph! Next, you'll be telling me that the girls don't look like real girls either
  5. Playing Yoake Mae Yori Ruri-Iro na and D.C.P.C. in tandem now. Well, both games have enough routes that I could play just these 2 games the rest of the year. D.C.P.C. is a challenge for me. The writer seems to enjoy wordplay, and making references to little things foreigners like me wouldn't know... It's funny how in Yoake whenever they talk about earth customs what they REALLY mean is Japanese customs. I really identified with Feena when she was taken aback by the way Japanese eat those soba noodles, I don't like that sound either :-) You'll see if you play it that Feena definitely resembles a Westerner. So apparently, we Westerners were the ones who settle the moon in the future. And Rin had some good advice for y'all in D.C.P.C... basically we're all supposed to get up at 5 in the morning and go to bed at 10. That's good for your health. Guess what Feena is reacting to here.
  6. Not a VN, but the level of moe makes me happy. I found it totally by accident (I was looking for Money Idol Exchanger actually) Strangely, it looks better on my TV than it does in these screencaps but you can get the idea It is not Zoom909-rashii to lose on level 2. Oh well. At least I beat the "polar bear."
  7. Well, I'll just give a general outline then, 'cause I have no experience with win8. The game program has to be reverse engineered. The Japanese text has to be placed in ordinary text files. Then you have to edit the text files and replace the Japanese text with English. Finally, the text in these files has to be placed in a patch that can be loaded back into the game program. It depends on the game. If you're lucky, somsone already has the utilities you need to edit the text. If you're not lucky, the utilities do not exist yet, and someone has to make them...
  8. Hi Tiff You mean, you want to translate a game yourself? What is it you need to know how to do...
  11. I prefer: http://www.maruchan.com/maruchan_yakisoba.html to any of the "instant ramen". The noodles are similar, but the taste...is just a lot better. I can only speak for the Chicken and Roast Chicken Flavors though. All you have to mind are 2 things: -that you fill the water exactly to the indicated level -that you stir it for a good minute after adding the seasoning tbh if I want instant no fuss food, I go for an instant macaroni and cheese instead http://www.walmart.com/ip/Kraft-Dinners-Extreme-Cheese-Explosion-Macaroni-Cheese-Dinner-5.5-Oz/15021144

  14. Like anime except with less animation and more subtitles?
  15. Shin Da Da Da! I got it at my local used bookstore, and it's very funny and cute. Oddly enough, I got a few volumes of Villgust at the same time, and I thought I would like Villgust and be lukewarm about Shin Da Da Da, but it turned out to be the other way 'round.
  16. Then, what % Americans support or buy pornographic games if it's real girls that are the subject, and not anime girls? (I'm trying to determine if the issue is just with anime girls, or with porn in games in general...to me, the latter would make more sense)
  17. Well, I haven't even heard of it before this. But there is a demo, as previously mentioned. And the "sexual content" tag in vndb is meaningless. It just means there is porn as opposed to no porn. For games that are full of sex scenes, they have one "high sexual content".
  18. I'll buy it if they fix the translation. An "awkward" translation isn't worth 35 dollars to me. More like...35 cents. I try to avoid pornography myself, but I'm a bit surprised that they wouldn't offer both ero and non-ero for download (and both in the boxed version). It's trivial to do that with the game engine, and it makes that debate moot, right?
  19. It sure is. They run pretty much side-by-side at the beginning (except that a few stories were omitted swapped and/or shortened for the anime), but after the first 6? 7? can't remember for sure volumes the anime has stopped, but the manga keeps going and there are a couple more new characters.
  20. Since I already posted my list, I decided to look back a ways and find out how many of people's favorites were also ones I liked. (Sort of like a manual version of what MAL does.) Let's see The Kuroneko... 1 match (Kanon 2006) garejei... 1 match (Aria) Widi... 2 matches (SAO, Hyouka) Nakanishi... 2 matches (SAO, Haruhi) Fiya... 1 match (Another) darkphoenix... 3 matches (Kanon, Haruhi, Chuunibyou) EastN3... 1 match (Kanon) DrKleiner... 1 match (Another) Beato... 1 match (Chihayafuru) cvmerchanary... 5 matches (K-On, Little Busters, Sakurasou, TariTari, Kanon) That's more like it :-) Eurobeatz... 8 matches (Shuffle, Sister Princess, Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai, Air, Kanon, Another, Yosuga no Sora, Koe de Oshigoto) Friend!! :-)
  21. I'll second Mahou Sensei Negima. The whole thing is good, including the early chapters. You get a mix of great action scenes and harem hijinks. It just morphs a little during the course of the manga. And the artwork is very detailed. In fact, at the end of each volume he shows you how some of the manga backgrounds were made with CG. All the Latin and Greek incantations are cool too. And I'll second Aria (starts out as Aqua). Again phenomenal artwork. This is a tranquil, soothing manga. The world setting is fleshed out well. And I actually learned a number of things about Italy too. Finally, I'll mention Nagasarete Airantou. The one where the guy washes up on the remote island populated exclusively by girls, all living the traditional Japanese way (no modern conveniences). This one is just for fun. And great art in this one too.
  22. Hi Fiya, I also have mild Aspergers (+ Ocd, which is not what most people think it is), but it's not something I normally bring up of my own volition, only since everyone else is suddenly admitting it :-) I am also self-taught Japanese--purely with the intent to read, not to speak--and I read some Japanese every day. 今晩、僕はちょっと"未来の歌とつながるヒトミ"を翻訳しました。そして今,アニメの”外れ勇者のECSTETICA"を見ている。それから"Brighter than Dawning Blue"を読みつずけるつもりです。 Yoroshiku!
  23. My results as of this writing (no proxy just regular connect): erogamescape - OK. teatime - OK. akabeesoft2 - FORBIDDEN. btw seems like it's not necessary to go to official sites for patches, you can use mirror DLs such as mirror-aaa.fuzzy2.net which store patches and trials and PVs for multiple studios. In fact I've gone to support pages on the official sites and they sometimes just link to these other mirror sites

    Books!

Yes, I used to read a lot. Now, I've gotten out of the habit, switched all my reading over to Japanese manga or VNs. I keep meaning to try a light novel at some point too. But I have read a number of the books mentioned in this thread, so let me comment real quick... The Picture of Dorian Gray - I liked it. It was Twilight Zone-ish, I think it's worth reading once anyway. Lord of the Rings - One of my all time favorites, along with the Hobbit. Just head and shoulders above most other fantasy books I tried. However, I did also take a look at the Prydain books (Book of 3, Black Cauldron, etc.) Dune - Somehow the book got on my nerves after a while. But when I saw the movie, I actually liked it a lot better. The imagery of the movie made a lasting impression on me. "Purists" don't like it, but Frank Herbert himself liked the movie. Foundation - It was--weird. I liked it originally, but by the time it got to Foundation Edge I thought it had gotten too weird for me. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - There aren't many books that caused me to stop reading and laugh out loud, continually, like this one did. ALSO RECOMMENDED: Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency also by Douglas Adams I, Robot - This is a classic. The book that introduced the 3 laws of robotics, which are referenced all over the place, even in the Vocaloid VNs. It is not like the Will Smith action movie, though--it's regular Asimov SF. I read some of the later Robots books too, but they weren't quite as good. Jurassic park - One of my favorite books. Suspenseful. Has a deadly seriousness to it that the movie doesn't have--apparently they thought the movie needed to be a light-hearted action movie. ALSO RECOMMENDED: State of Fear. I guess one of my favorites not mentioned here is The World Of Jeeves. Somebody recommended to me saying If I liked British humor... turned out to be a hilarious book. Kind of like Hitchhikers guide style without the SF. from wikipedia: "The Jeeves and Wooster stories, narrated by the wealthy, scatterbrained Bertie Wooster. A number of stories and novels that recount the improbable and unfortunate situations in which he and his friends find themselves and the manner in which his ingenious butler Jeeves is always able to extricate them"
