I whaled and failed a few days ago, didn't get my Illya but I got more Medea Lolis, a Stheno, and I freaking finally got a K-scope (which is kinda appropriate given the event), so I guess the money wasn't completely wasted. I was going to use the one log-in bonus ticket I got yesterday, plus whale one last time, but yesterday was Medb rate-up so I waited until today. Just got back from work, prepared myself to yorokobe, used my 1 ticket without expecting much, BUT THEN

VNs with heroines dying at the end are perfect if they are well executed(no pun intended xD) and if it makes sense in the context of the story and it's not just for some cheap emotional impact *cough* bad utsuge *cough*

So, Valmore got me a starter account with 800 quartz and I started playing yesterday.
First, of course, was rolling for good stuff with all the quartz.
I saw there was a camelot gacha going on, and decided to avoid it like the plage. After all, I never really liked Saber, or Gawain.
Instead of waiting for another promo or something, I decided to just roll the other option. I got 4 five-starts servants (with that many quartz, I'm not sure if that's good, bad or average.)
Either way, I got one Arturia, two Mordreds and one Attila. RIP me. Was I rolling a saber gacha without knowing or something?
Attila is a cutie, so I don't mind it too much, though.

In the second day, I also solo rolled a Zhunge Lang with the remaining 14 quartz, and used my second mordred to increase the NP of my first one, so I currently have 4 five-star servants, as well as a bunch of 4 star ones.
This was my best roll out of the 25 or so:

More important than any of that, I look a lot cuter than my servants, so it's cool. Just got that Atlas uniform. Now I can pretend to be Sion.

giving a vn that last more than 30 hours to a person that is just starting is not a good idea imo, specially not >100 like clannad
I think Katawa Shoujo is still the perfect vn to this day.
But if you insist this is my list:
In the very short range: dustmania this one will "blown" everyones brains out (literally)
To replace g-senjou what better visual novel other than one of the first vns written by looseboy: A profile ? Nothing stands out better than this, purest of his work 
Finally for those casuals but who still are eager to play something amazing yet not really long, with some amazing story and a little bit of action: sakura dungeon

For the short length VNs: True Remembrance, sweet story, no eroge at all, same applies to one thousand lies and both of them are free.

Narcissu: to introduce them into the utsuge genre  

Saya no uta: I don't have to say anything about this one (the content in this one might turn some readers away)

Lucy - Geunyeoga Baladeon Geos -, short and with some sci-fi elements, no eroge.
Fata morgana, agree with this one.
Finally this one is amazing in every single aspect, the only downside is the "hard" content (shouldnt be a problem for any vn fan and it would also introduce them into what vns might bring them in the future ): Swan song
 

Planetarian.
It was pretty much my first encounter with (serious) anime/manga/vn tropes. It has a very stereotypically enthusiastic anime character, but the fact that she is a robot built only to please (japanese?) customers made that very easy to swallow for me. It also has stellar writing and presentation and some really beautiful and impactful moments, and you can read it in an evening. I'd be lying if I said I'd had much success trying to get friends to read and like it, but I still believe you don't need any experience in anime/manga to enjoy it.
