It was amusing to anticipate how/when Tomo gets busted in those routes. Everytime someone mentions Amatsutsumi the dual of them doing the こころん ほたるん gets stuck in my head - it's almost as bad as that frozen song. Recently finished Sakura no Uta - I was a bit surprised and disappointed as to how it ends, while its good and all, overall I find it too overrated looking that the overwhelming list of 10s on vndb (probably just rated from the last few chapters). Minor spoiler thoughts:

Chiltrans in layman's terms is another version of VNR or ITH/ITHVNR+Translation Aggregator (TA in short), but it can just be used in place of TA - personally I run ITH/ITHVNR + Chiitrans as for some reason Chiitrans seems to parse the some words better than TA. The stay on top feature works for some games in full screen. TA should also be able do things such as google translate of a sentence or hook into Atlas (I've never gotten them to work/needed them to work) - that is if you are desperate to see what different translation engine translates the same text as. The easier way to think of text hooking translators is 1. You first need something to extract the text from the game engine, once you have the text 2. With the japanese text you'll need to either: 2a. Throw it into a machine translator and see the Engrish output (eg/ google translate/Atlas) - very bad idea for most VNs as its generally gibberish. 2b. Display it on screen with dictionary lookup on each word. As Japanese is not similar to English where one word is a word (eg/ みな means something different to say みなと even though they start with the same characters), there needs to be something to split the sentence into dictionary understandable words - that's where parsers such as JParser comes in.

Just checked my save game on this. The first one (from common) under spirited away is called "Afterwards..." - as for how to trigger it I'm not exactly sure as it's been a while, may have something to do with the test of courage and the people you pick there. The ending you're missing is the PSX Epilogue - It can only be accessed through the shortcut menu, apparently included as a bonus from the translators. Keep reading, I found that my opinion changes after every chapter read. Personally I didn't like Mamiya after rabbit hole 2 but he turned out pretty good in the invention chapter. Just don't forget to read Tsui no sora 2 - get a walkthrough for it if you have trouble getting to it.

Recently finished 装甲悪鬼村正 - really one of a kind VN which I've read so far (aside from it being probably the longest and hardest thing I've read), that average vndb rating doesn't lie! At first I was a bit concerned with all the relations with the other Nitroplus titles, but it turns out to be nothing major (aside from some hilarious scenes involving the protag). There are some minor nitpick/complaints about a couple of things though aside from the moral discussions/infodumping, the final route had a couple of what I could describe as epic battles which were skipped over along with some choices in places which required a bit of guessing. More specific examples/comments (major spoilers alert!): Overall, awesome VN, there are some very unforgettable moments - これは英雄の物語ではない.

Aiyoku no Eustia fits in that category, very plot focused without much SoL.

One of the 5 girls with the protag wears a maid uniform, you should notice it in the first scene. I'm pretty sure the OP movie says false maid if i remember correctly (for those who can read JP) And there's of course - day of the maid.

I don't know how you enjoy your VNs, but I would need to be able to read them without going to dictionary (JParser/etc) every few lines to enjoy them - it's just not going to happen in the first few VNs you read. I won't try to rank them as Clephas and XReaper have already ranked them. My opinion is with XReaper not touch Subahibi till later. My recommendation is to pick out the common top 5 from those 2 lists above and go for the most interesting VN from the blurb to you - I was in a similar situation starting out to read untranslated VNs after going through months of Tae Kim Grammar/RTK etc, I just bite the bullet and went with Meikyuu/Rakuen (same reasons as Dergonu above). Sure Meikyuu took me 3 months to get through slowly but I never looked back after that. Now I'm reading whatever VNs I wanted, translated or not (Dies Irae was quite hard to stomach though, slowly going through Muramasa at the moment)

Can't believe it took me more than 1 minute to realise how 十月十日= 萌 For the people having trouble with it:

It says it can't read boot.dfn file, check if it's in the same folder as bootmenu.exe. Should be 446 bytes in size.

No Baldr heart? I haven't got time to play through it yet though so I can't compare it to Amatsutsumi which is the only one in the list above I did end up finishing. Akiyume Kukuru might be one to look out for in December as a latecomer - though it's strange for it to be release in winter given the autumn themed title.

A quick google shows there's an issue with Win 10 64bit build 14393 or later (Search -> winver, or If win10 is kept up to date it should be) with the workaround #1.Copy C_932.NLS from this location C:\Windows\System32 #2. Paste to this location C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ If that's not it then maybe check the permissions on the folder and try to use the latest version along with installing VS 2015 runtimes

Can be annoying with vns with gameplay and some vns which seem to use the last click position rather than touch position for mouse clicks as mentioned above, but nothing unbearable. C drive space can be an issue if you plan to have more than a few vns installed at once - most vns can just work off sdcards though Keep in mind there's no win7 tablets, so there may be compatibility issues with really old vns

chiitrans lite doesn't need installing, just copy it to another location. See if there's a clearer error message in log.txt, otherwise you can delete/rename the settings in C:\Users\your_windows_user\AppData\Local\ChiitransLite\... folder and try again.

Muv-Luv Alternative? Do play Muv-Luv first though. Dies Irae is not as actiony as you might expect.

My guess is Frontwing is trying the Grisaia Meikyuu/Rakuen formula again - while Meikyuu's ending is not appreciated by the fanbase, pretty sure it helped Frontwing on the hype side. As I haven't read Corona Blossom I can't comment as to whether it ends like Meikyuu. Baldr Sky was released in 2 parts - it's quite strange to see it released as 2 games several months apart rather than one since it is really just one game. In this case the second half was much better than the first half. I still remember the frustration of people waiting for the next installment of Higurashi/Umineko From Ryuukishi07 back in the days, pretty sure that's what got him so famous.

Observer - I like to think of it as reading a book, or playing an RPG. While you "fill" the role of the Protag and feel like playing/reading events in their perspective, it doesn't stop the author of the book or game designers from showing different perspectives.

Oslo doesn't have any H-scenes. A bit more on topic: that one did sort of came out of nowhere - I don't see how the reader would ever pick the other choice as a preference aside from the extra CG, my take on it was they're trying to close the plot-hole on how Oslo's been around for that long and why he's "after" Thanatos? Rakuen was entertaining enough for me to overlook it though. In a way I'm sort of glad they left that bit out of the anime as people will definitely go wtf on it.

I completely underestimated the length of this VN when I read it - with common and 5 lengthy routes of enforced playing order, it should really be listed on long in VN as long. Some minor complaints (I'll mark as spoiler just in case): Friendship (while not the central theme) does play a big part in this VN though - there are elements of the "friends come together to can solve problems" feel to it. I have to admit this is one of the VNs where the Protag is the best character in the VN - which is rare in a VN as heroines or other characters usually take the spotlight.

Dies Irae imo is a charage with bits of action - people expecting MLA style action packed mind-bending sci-fi/fantasy will be severely disappointed. I personally find the extra stories better than the main arcs as it becomes quite predictable. I'll be looking forward to how they translate Merculius' monologues.

There's no ratings apart from "hoshimemo sucks" - so it's a bit hard to recommend based on what you like without some sort of top to bottom list or "something similar to FSN" as an example. Should check out the sticky 50 translated VN you should read before you die Thread Go and read the summary off vndb for those VNs and that should give you a fair idea - avoid the slice of life ones if that's the bit in hoshimemo which pains you.

Only the after story of Rakuen implies he had sex with the girls if you consider that part of Rakuen's main story - there's only one reference to Meikyuu with the photo booth if I remember correctly. IMO Meikyuu and Rakuen were really inconsistent from Kajitsu as to what had occurred and what not - it's not bad if you overlook the glaringly obvious details not gluing together.

Similar story here with regards to JRPGs and MMOs. I found my addiction to JRPGs is due to their story (fantasy/sci-fi genre) than its gameplay (though some still catch my interest) - thus moving to more story driven mediums for entertainment, i.e. VNs and books. Also achievements and bonus dungeons (coughdlccough) in games these days are the worse thing ever as the goals are usually on the achievable but take a long time side - where's the "switch off the console and think about how good the game was" feeling once the credits finish rolling?

The very first thing which came to me reading the title is anything by akatsuki works. However comyu is the only one translated. chaos head never really give that sort of vibe for me, i can't find anyone in your list which is alike from the ones i've read. It does have a bit of philosophical in terms of its mystery, but not really about the morally grey area which comyu really shines in. I think Root Double is a better match than chaos head as you can see both sides of the story, but it doesn't stack up well against comyu in terms of questioning the morally grey area.
