I am pretty sure I went into my first UnTL'd visual novel with maybe 150 words.
Tip for those looking to start: Don't be dumb like me. It would be faster to just do the legwork than to sit there, looking up every single word. xD
Edit: Keep in mind I had a very good grasp on grammar going in, so don't think you can go in with just 150 words and eventually, someday come out and be fine, as I did.

It pretty much is... there are a few nakige that get close to it, but the only VNs that made me cry more were Evolimit, Konata yori Kanata Made, Houkago no Futekikakusha, and Hapymaher... just of those I can think of right here and now. The VNs that made me cry the most of all time is a tie between Konata and Houkago, though...
*Lino begins jotting down all of these VNs in order to sate his feels masochism*

Asairo is definitely one I would like to see you write about, so I'll "third" it.

He's getting fired for this, don't worry.
I have no regrets

I had a good laugh at the "pukes sand". ^^
Might have to give this one a look eventually. Once I clear out my horrid backlog.

Following for Vomit-chan and Vomit Scale. I'll put this anime on the blacklist.

How did the jump to untranslated VNs feel?
It was more of a stumble than anything else. Heh heh.
The toughest part, other than motivating myself and believing that I was good enough at Japanese to start, was just getting used to reading in an entirely different language. It was so strange to suddenly be going at a snail's reading pace as opposed to my normally quite brisk one.
After I got used to reading in another language, the transition was virtually painless. It's just like, the first five hours or so that kind of hurt.

Son (尊) is possibly the best girl in the series
It brings me glee that you can enjoy the game and enjoy the learning experience. I did the same back when akatsuki no goei was one of my first jp vn's to read as well.
Glad you enjoy my ramblings!
The learning experience is important~ Even if I don't really understand every single line, I am still understanding overall something I would otherwise never be able to touch if I did not study Japanese.
Also, my thoughts on best girl.. remain to be seen.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Houkago no Futekikakusha.
I myself was not a huge fan, but I can understand why people would like it.
