Fuwanovel Logo Contest 2nd Edition

Hello everyone, Nosebleed here bringing you the 2nd edition of the logo contest (It took some time but it's finally here!)

I actually wanted to do it earlier but I couldn't think of a theme.

The first edition was a little shakey at times but hopefully this 2nd one goes more smoothly.

After sorting out some stuff with Tay I can now freely host contests and change the logos myself.

Some changes have been made to the rules to hopefully fix some of the problems we had on the last contest so I hope you read the rules again in order for no misunderstandings to occur.

They are still up for change but any changes will only be made in future editions.

The theme for the second edition will be Change

September and October are months of change in a lot of ways, people go back to school, some move from middle school to highschool or highschool to college and some even graduate college and start working in the real world.

It's also the time nature starts shifting gears and preparing for the winter. All in all it's a time where a lot of us change pace.

And of course who could forget the fact that Fuwanovel is also changing.

And so with all these elements in my head I decided to pick this theme for the second edition.

Rules (Please read):

  • How to interpret the theme is entirely up to you.
  • All entries must have a text (length up to you) explaining why their logo represents the theme.
  • Entries that do not include the paragraph or fail to explain properly why they fit within the theme will be rejected.
  • Steve and Asonn are not allowed to participate as they have won the previous contest. You will be able to enter again in the 3rd edition.
  • Likewise, the winners of this contest will not be able to participate in the contest immediately after.
  • Only one submission is allowed per user. You may change your logo at any time during the submission phase, just make sure to indicate which is your final version (in case you post more than once) so there's no mistakes.
  • To submit an entry you must post the logo you made in this thread or send it to me via PM if you wish to be anonymous.
  • Entries should be around 354px by 90px and must include the title "Fuwanovel" and the sub-title "Make Visual Novels Popular in the West", but font, styling and design are up to the artist.
  • The logo should have a transparent background, it also must be visible when being used on the layout (black letters would likely not be visible without a colored stroke for example)
  • No porn, sexual acts, genitals, female nipples, or excessive female cleavage
  • If you wish to add (a) character(s) to the logo there is no restriction as far as whether that character comes from a VN/Anime/Manga/etc. or whether it's Male or Female. As long as you think it looks good and doesn't violate previous rules it can be submitted
  • We'll accept entries for 10 days after this post goes up
  • Once 10 days pass we'll make a poll where users can vote on their favorite logos
  • There will be three winners per contest: The "official" winner will be the logo with the most votes, the second winner will be the runner-up in the poll, and the third winner will be chosen by a secret logo council run by Tay
  • Last time a 3rd winner was not picked and I do apologize for that but if Tay can not be here to pick a 3rd winner I will take it upon myself to pick one.
  • We encourage people to be creative and have fun making logos, but all logos -- even if they win the popular vote -- have to be approved by Tay before they'll be displayed on the forums
  • We'll cycle through the logos periodically between contests (including the old stock banner and possibly previous contest winners)
  • Submitting a logo gives us the right to use it forever and ever however we feel like it (*evil laughter*)
  • Logo contests will be held semi-regularly

If you wish to use the default font template in your submission we have a sample of it here that you may use, there is no penalty for using it.

I'll be in charge of handling the contest so any questions you may have can either be sent via PM to me or be posted here and I'll try to answer as fast as possible.

I hope you all have fun in this second edition of the Fuwanovel Logo contest.

Good luck to all participants :D

Here is my entry for the 2nd Fuwanovel logo contest:

When I was creating this logo, I had to make sure I addressed the theme in a way that was both unique and original in its interpretation. I started by thinking of what the actual term "change" meant in Fuwanovel's case, and I remembered that since joining this community, Fuwanovel as a website has always been about building on itself. We were thrown into the fire on a lot of different occasions due to various reasons (some not preventable), yet in each situation we have added members to our family and continued to build this website into what it is today.

Fuwanovel is constantly changing, and as such, I decided to create the text of the logo as bricks which represent the growth of the website. Originally, I thought that having the bricks join together would be a good idea, but then I realized that we are still growing as a community. We are changing in many different ways and are continuing to add more bricks (members) to our structure. Bricks not only represent a solid foundation, but also the idea of cementing new ideas into our home as we continue toward the future.

Moving on, I was presented with another challenge. In honor of Angel Beats! and its upcoming visual novel, I decided to go with this image. To start, the company Key has always been about change and growth. Clannad is about the growth of one's self, where Little Busters! is about the growth of friendship. In this case, Angel Beats! is about starting a new life and moving on. For that reason, I chose Yuri and Kanade during their graduation ceremony. This symbolizes their growth as friends and the change that is about to come into their lives as they move on from the afterlife. As with Fuwanovel, we too have graduated from the past and started a new life.

While the changes may seem subtle and don't affect the overall function of the site and what we do, we have added so many unique members to our family who continue to help build the foundation we have created and will keep doing so as time goes on. We may have differing opinions on how we present visual novels to the community (discussion, social media, games and streams), yet we will always be a family that adds our own little brick to the construction of our many ideals and beliefs.

This is my entry for the contest.

Note: I will not be judging my own submission, I will ask Tay to do it for obvious reasons.

How it looks like on the site:

When I was thinking change and visual novels the first character that popped up in my head was Nekoko.

Nekoko was a character that completely stole my heart during her story, she represents what it really means to change oneself in my opinion.

The castle behind Nekoko, also known as the land of the fairies in Yume Miru Kusuri, is meant to represent an ultimate goal, much like Nekoko wants to travel to the land of the fairies, Fuwanovel also wishes to go achieve higher goals (make visual novels popular).

Nekoko herself represents someone with a loss of identity, a split personality and of course an addiction. I feel like it ties in well with the turmoil that was Fuwa for a while now that somewhat lost its sense of direction but is now getting back on track and making changes, much like how Nekoko understands that she can't keep doing what she's doing, she has to realize this is not the right path.

My whole goal with this logo was mostly to represent a goal for fuwa that is now more clear and within sight than it was before (The castle) as well as represent the path that we should take which is not one of self indulgence and chaos (like Nekoko's life was).

Sorry that it's quite shallow, but I'm not good at thinking too deeply.

I uploaded the default template (Without Mare) i don't think it's a good idea to use the logo with Mare in it because that was made by Steve, but regardless it's in the old logo contest thread thread if you really want it.

But the logo i put in the OP is the original without mare, i can't make up a new one and say it's the default template. Though i know there was a version without the purple stroke but i don't have it, maybe Tay or Steve do, i'll have to ask when i get home.

Don't know how hidden votes helps prevent it since you can still see the results just not who voted for them.

I don't know how we'd monitor it, we can't see who voted regardless so we'd have to trust people basically, i don't personally mind but i'm not sure if this is a good idea.

If a mod alters a poll you can tell right away because the number of people who voted won't match the number of votes (I noticed when i put 90000+ votes in an option once)

I could make the voting anonymous under the condition that people accept you can vote for your own logo, unless we can actually check the votes.

That's really the only way.

Why can't you vote for your own? Based on member count one vote shouldn't make the difference.

All we heard after the last time was people only voted for that cause that person made it or that group forced the vote.

Remove that aspect and we are in a better place is all.

Now people get those logos made.
