  1. What about earlier C's Ware's attempts like Eve: Burst Error or DESIRE - Haitoku no Rasen (written by YU-NO's writer nonetheless)? Or ~1995-96 JAST titles (San Shimai & Meisou Toshi)? Mugen Yasoukyoku? Well, I guess neither of those had the impact and scale of the YU-NO (and JAST titles had much more dating sim elements), so there's some merit in highlighting it.
  2. Rin from Meisou Toshi (Runaway City), who also makes an appearance in Sakura no Kisetsu.
  3. That's weird. At least I haven't experienced anything like that when playing AIR, even though I've done some risky things with it like switching between the two TL patches, or even mixing them.
  4. This just came up on the radio While I'm not a big Akina Nakamori's fan, I might check out the album this song is from - it sounds great I'm really liking the arrangement of this song.
  5. Slayers were great. For the others old series I watched, and liked: Magic Knight Rayearth (1994-95) - https://myanimelist.net/anime/435/Magic_Knight_Rayearth https://myanimelist.net/anime/1563/Magic_Knight_Rayearth_II Maison Ikkoku (1986) - https://myanimelist.net/anime/1453/Maison_Ikkoku Sailor Moon (1992-96 Classic, R, S, SuperS, Stars) - https://myanimelist.net/anime/530/Bishoujo_Senshi_Sailor_Moon Toushou Daimos (1978 - quite vintage mecha show, I think at least on the surface it might be similar to Macross which I haven't watched) - https://myanimelist.net/anime/2816/Toushou_Daimos But then yeah, my list seem to be just like @Mr Poltroon's and they are old but popular shows.
  6. Update on this - I got in contact with Youko-san on FB. She does weekly live streams there, performing a few songs each time. I asked in comments for CDs, and she messaged me back with a link to an online store with her records. While it isn't possible to make international orders there (the ordering form accepts Japanese address only), that's where the cdjapan's proxy service comes in Let's keep fingers crossed that they can get it for me.
  7. I've read only Saki's route so far, and I loved it. Somehow recently I cannot find the time for reading. But others look promising too. Maybe today I'll read Mashiro's. Of course I'm not voting yet.
  8. Today I just finished Chapter 9 (Christmas one), so we're now at 73%. There are three more to go - New Year onsen trip, Valentine's Day and endings. By the way, the chapters are as follows: (These are original title images - I merged the text from JP and EN versions together)
  9. Whoa, that's definitely a lot Perhaps a bit too much for me. I'd say such amount is close to the straight-up nukige territory. I was hoping that maybe Steam version would be done NekoNyansoft's way - they make the best non-H versions - but that's not the case. So I think I'll pass on it for now.
  10. Yukikoi Melt has been just released on Steam, and there's freeware +18 patch downloadable from JAST. Steam release seems to be dual-language (EN+JP) which is nice bonus
  11. Wait, so now Textractor works with PPSSPP directly, without the need of using Cheat Engine and Hook Any Text? (btw - the latter might be the solution to your question. I used it to hook PSP and PS3 VNs)
  12. I think it's a good place for another progress report. I just reached the end of Chapter 8. That means I crossed the 10k lines mark, and it brings the progress counter to the 66%.
  13. Yesterday (after a long break) I finished Saki's route. I loved it, Saki was super-lovable heroine and I just want to be hugged by her There was basically no drama, but - unlike in Yuzuyu's route from Fureraba - it didn't feel bland to me. I guess good comedy provided the spice needed I'm currently playing Steam version without H-scene patch, and I think it is handled pretty well - it seems that NekoNyan is good at handling that stuff. I'd never call this version "All-ages" though It has outright porn cut out, but it still is pretty raunchy. Well, after all, the characters are adults (this time for real, not just for disclaimer purposes ) Now I'm looking forward to other heroines' stories.
  14. The Language of Love - very nice and wholesome little OELVN.
  15. I tried Cheat Engine + HAT with True Love Story and To Heart - it couldn't find anything, no matter which encoding I tried. I take that back - I just tried it again for True Love Story, this time with ePSXe emulator, and it worked! (previously I used pcsx I think...)
  16. I also tried to hook text from PS1 VNs running in emulators, but no success. The only thing that could possibly work, would be the software that does OCR from screenshots (like the ABBYY Screenshot Reader, it's commercial, but there are also some freeware ones), but it's very inconvenient to use, since you have to press the keyboard shortcut for the capture for each new line. But none of the text-hooking tools that I use (like Textractor, or CheatEngine with HookAnyText plugin) were able to capture the text from PS1 or PS2 VNs. I guess they use some very non-standard text encoding. I was succesful only with some of the PSP and PS3 titles.
  17. Yeah, really. Very nice, chilled feel indeed. Yeah. Maybe it's because often they try too hard to be... how to say... edgy? Not sure if it's the right word, but what I mean is, that I feel like when it comes to the current (and by "current" I mean last 20 or 30 years ) Western popular music, anything that sounds nice and harmonious is easily being labelled as cheesy, fake etc etc - basically unworthy of attention. Or to put it in other words - Western musicians and listeners seem to value different things in music than Japanese.
  18. The same day I heard Yoko Matsuura, I've also heard this: Guess kind of humble beginnings of eurobeat This song is a funny case. It's a cover of italo disco song. Actually, UK made one. So, I guess, euro-disco then? Nevertheless, original was this: And it's interesting, because lyrics are completely different (it isn't the translation of Angie Gold's version), making them effectively different songs sharing the same melody. English song is angry, breakup/revenge song, while Japanese version is very lighthearted, with girl hunting at the disco for her "cinderella boy" What's more, Yoko Oginome release also english version, which is the translation of JP one. I have to say - I prefer both covers than the original (for some reasons the embedding seems to be temporarily broken...)
  19. I looked a bit more at her page, and it turns out she has some CDs, but it looks like they're self-published, and she sells/sold them only at her live shows, and a few shops/places she's friends with. So for me they're impossible to get
  20. So now it's my turn I heard this song on a japanese local radio today, and for some reasons it really moved me: The girl who made this song, Youko Matsuura, seems to be rather unknown, she doesn't have any records released, just couple YT vids with a few hundred viewers. And now she seems to be doing similar thing to me, namely recording cover songs in her home and posting them on YT And I'm really tempted to do a cover of the above song... Speaking of which, a few weeks ago I did a cover of Anri Kumaki's song. It was my first attempt at singing in Japanese. Please forgive me for posting it here as well, but maybe someone will find it nice
  21. Today I found a funny one. It turns out that there was a Captain Tsubasa reference during the sports festival in chapter 8 Of course I'm putting that reference back in
  22. Well, it took muuuuch longer, but today I found a bit of time again, and managed to do another few lines, bringing the progress counter to the 51% So I'm happy to report, that the project still isn't dead (it just smells funny )
  23. I tried it - I forced antialiasing to be off, and I think it made it a bit more bearable, though it might be just an illusion.
