mmm... NTR can be problematic for people who find it easy to suspend disbelief and also think relationships should be honest and straightforward.  This is especially true of the 'forced NTR' that makes up most of the genre.  If you find it easy to get behind protagonists' eyes, it is merely a painful experience, not an exciting one... unless you are already that far gone, anyway.

Generally, I skip them but I'm unable to read a VN without it. Because it would feel like this has been made for a "kid", I like to see that they're targeting adults (well not always) by including them.
Also some times it helps a lot in the story, but it is mostly so I won't feel like the author has been censored in any way

Most of the time I skip h-scenes.  However, there are times when I read them simply because a heroine is 'my type' and I like the visual or writing style used.  The fact is that I have, in the past, skipped well over 99% of all the h-scenes in VNs I've read... but those that I did read were those where I had a strong emotional attachment to the heroine involved.

i just dont talk about it every chance i get. ill talk about it in some form of a topic that furthers the discussion but i wont bring it up every time or anything. ill talk it openly among fellow vn readers if its brought up, im not shy but theres a time and place for that stuff. could i go into detail about how i loved mayuchi willingly spreading her asshole so yamato can fuck it? sure, but it doesnt need to be said every time majikoi is brought up.

anyhoo, ive always liked h-scenes. hell, its what got me into vns in the first place. just a young guy looking to get off to 2d girls but instead of just looking at pictures, i went to vns. why? because after getting to know the girl, deciding which routes ill do first, choosing the right choices, H at the end of it all is just far more satisfying. and the fact that ive known the girls so well after all that investment and i finally get to see their lewd side adds another layer of enjoyment. the girls feel open to the mc in an intimate manner with the mc (most of the time) and is ready to do the deed.

those are my thoughts on it, good sir. if you have any questions, too bad!

Books are great in general, I view VN's as interactive visual and audio books...ever since I was a kid I loved reading and really enjoyed the feeling of immersion when you tune into a good story. So before discovering VN's I always wished that I could be a part of some sort of different world or a story like in the books, so reading VN's gives me one of the best feelings in the world which is imagination and dreaming. I don't self-insert but still enjoy the ride, I think most of the people who reads/plays VN's love this game genre because it's a getaway or an escape from reality.

I can speak only for myself and my motivation to read VNs is a bit sketchy in the first place. At first, I simply kept them as an allowed exception while trying to limit my video game habits. It evolved to the current state of affairs, where I more or less stopped playing any other kind of games. The reason I find visual novel way less toxic for me is because they require some basic intellectual effort to follow the story and don't include endless gameplay loops I could burn countless hours on. They're stories to experience, and not autistic sandboxes that'll suck me in for a week and spit out with with bloodshot eyes and realisation of dozens of hours burned on something that didn't even left me an impression that would be worth sharing with anyone.
But, if course, if there wasn't something in VN that I really enjoyed, I wouldn't get so much into them. For me its:
    1. Incredible variety of conclusive romance stories. I honestly didn't know I liked romance stories this much before I came back to watching anime regularly and started reading VNs. But anime quite too often means harem comedies and I happen to hate "romance" in those. Because they never commit and when they do, it's usually not the girl I was rooting for. This is why having a route for every heroine is an enormous perk. I identified the best girl? I can get the MC to romance her. I like some secondary ones? Also covered. The rest of them? I probably got enough connection to the whole cast by this point to enjoy them too in the end. No linear media will give me that.
    2. Variety of romance stories once more. Yuri, otome, galge, BL. Fluffy love stories and serious drama. Tiny games for half an evening and novel-sized epics. VNs got you all covered. It might get stale if you just read moege, but, partially because of my weird blogging endeavours, I end up reading incredibly varied stuff and so far I didn't get bored of any of it.
    3. Anime art. I love anime art over any other style. Give me anime girls kissing and you can take all the rest of my visual media away, I won't complain much. But aside from my personal deviancy, VN art is just that good in many cases.
    4. And well, for someone like me, with pretty limited visual imagination, in many cases VNs are simply more compelling than literature. I like having at least some visual representation of what I'm reading to give my mind some point of reference/guide on how to interpret it all. For example, I'm not sure if I'd have enjoyed reading Dune as much as I did if I didn't have some vision of its world from the classic games I played. It's not something I'm particularly proud of, but from my experience, that's just how my brain is wired and I can't do much about it. VNs are a pretty good compromise between literary text and graphics, showing you a lot but still leaving a lot of gaps for your imagination to fill.
Curious what other people's motivations are. :3

    Summary
Four young high school students--Kazushi, Appo, Pierre and Daigo--grow sick of their less-than-average, sensually-depraved youth.  With nothing but poor grades to show for their transient existence, the band of buffoons seek to spice up their lives.  Once word of an exchange student program to an all-girls school reaches Kazushi's ears, he and his friends set out to improve their grades.  Eventually, their hard work pays off, and they find themselves on a boat to Eiden Island, which is home to Eiden Academy, their new school.     However, upon arriving, the boys learn of a secret that causes them to question the intelligence of their decision to jump at this "opportunity": the school deals in the dark arts of alchemy, and endeavors to teach its students its various facets.  Kazushi and his friends quickly find themselves biting off more female drama than they can chew.
