    The Legend of Gangamamer

    The mystical land of Visnovella,
Where many a fair maiden reside.
In a deep, dark cave in the Entherlands,
    The dragon Gangamamer lurked inside.
Summoned forth by the mythical bamboo stalk,
And the four great priests of Geroe.
    The dragon came into Visnovella,
To work with the rulers of old.
In the early years of Visnovella,
    Many a conflict did arise.
As the Okatudon people resisted their rule,
And waged war with their new ally.
For they did not know that a greater threat,
Would soon throw their plans awry.

After years of struggle a truce was reached,
Finally bringing peace to the land.
Forming a council with Gangamamer, the Visnovella elite,
And the renegades of the Fanlasitor band.
But this tranquility did not last,
As the country soon would feel.
For the rebel group of the Shooleda tribe,
Would not let their old wounds heal.
Enraged by the death of their eldest son,
They took action behind the scenes.
    Summoning forth the dragon Kasei,
To conquer the land by all means.
And the following war would divide the land,
In the worst conflict the country had seen.

With the rise of this new great power,
    The warfare was light a-new.
    As the Okatudon people divided,
And the kingdom of Kasei grew.
By professing a new form of lifestyle,
    Kasei's popularity did rise.
And threated the rule of Gangamamer,
As the country split before his eyes.
Gangamamer protested this new way of life,
    Fighting back against this imposter.
But in this struggle he forget himself,
And the beliefs he himself had fostered.
But Kasei used the religion of Tesam,
So this brand new life-style prospered.

In an effort to dispatch this new-found threat,
    Gangamamer forgot his light.
Neglecting the wishes of his people,
In the struggle to win back his rights.
Kasei in his struggle for power,
Was owned by the rulers of Tesam.
    Who guided the dragon's decisions,
While the wishes of the people were condemned.
Thus the two dragons did struggle,
In their desperate attempts to survive.
    While the Okatudon people divided,
    Struggling to remain alive.
As they wait for the struggle to end,
And the times of prosperity to revive.

Okay I finally threw something together too.

Once in a country far to the east, ruled not by man but by powerful beast.
From ancient times there dragons had reigned, the people were happy their lands maintained.
But the dragons were many and the land so small, soon there wouldn’t be room for them all.

When realizing that they had to expand, the dragons searched for uncharted land.
They soon found a country, Visnovella, to the west, but who would be brave enough to embark on this quest?
Only one dragon was fearless enough, the dragon Gangamamer who was not exactly buff.
No, he was tiny and frail and his flight very slow, but kept persisting, he just had to go.
After saying goodbye he began his ascent, he looked slightly wobbly as he to Visnovella went.

There by a lake he discovered a town, beside it a castle that looked slightly run-down.
At the town square Gangamamer landed, but in his descent he tore his wing, stranded.
When he tumbled down the people fled, except a young girl who gave him some bread.
He asked for her name but she ignored his demand, their languages were different, she couldn’t understand.
She gave him a smile and then ran away, Gangamamer called after her, he wanted her to stay.
Through the night Gangamamer cried all alone,’ I want to go home’, he screamed and he moaned.

But in the morning the girl finally returned, with her was a man who looked very concerned.
Gangamamer tried to ask him too for his name, surprisingly an answer finally came.
This man had knowledge of languages from far and wide, relived that he wasn’t alone Gangamamer cried.

The man had a doctor look over his wing, and when he heard of his mission took him to the king.
Gangamamer explained his circumstances which the man translated, and then they looked at the king and for his answer they waited.
He told Gangamamer that the dragons were free to move there if Visnovella was where they wanted to be.
He wanted to go home and tell everyone straight-away that he’d finally found them a place to stay.
He spread out his wing and prepared for flight, but when he tried to move his sight turned white.
The cut in his wing was aching with pain, until that had been healed he would have to remain.

The wait was long but never boring, he spent the time learning the language and exploring.
The people grew used to him and stopped being afraid, when it was time to leave they even threw him a parade.
When he returned with more dragons in tow, the people were singing and waving below.
And in Visnovella the dragons since then have remained, the people are happy, their lands maintained.

    WEEK 3
This past week we have learned, not all of you are the next great artist. In fact, almost none of you are going to be a Rembrandt. That said, good job to all of you for taking part. I ended up not being able to decide who to give the bonus points to, so I'll give them to both Beato, and Stray Cat. Good work you two!
Now, on to this weeks challenge. I know not all of you are good artists, so this week, we'll get creative in a different way; writing.
This week, your challenge, is to write a story about the dragon Gangamamer and its adventures in the land of Visnovella.
There are no other guidelines, no other requirements. So for the love of god, don't ask. Just write. You will lose points for asking a question this round.

Points Sheet should be ready tomorrow. A lot of names to type up.

Do you have what it takes?

Greetings boys and girls and Ren. I am solidbatman, and for the next 8 weeks, I will be your worst nightmare. Think you're strong? Think you're smart? You are wrong. You are worthless, and I will be proving it to you through various cruel, torturous activities. In the past, I forced people to sing for me, draw, write fanfiction, search for hidden text. Many gave up. They were weak and evolution shall take care of them. Some, however, stayed strong, and rose to the top. I was defeated, and I was forced to pay them in Visual Novels.

    I AM BACK FOR REVENGE

Here is how this competition will work. Every week, for the next 8 weeks, I will issue a challenge. Complete the challenge in a certain amount of time to receive points. The person with the most points at the end of the 8 weeks will win a big big prize. REMEMBER: You will have a chance to win as long as you participate in every week and put in effort. Drop out and miss multiple weeks, and you wont stand a chance. No one can clinch the competition before week 8.

Now, on to the prizes. Just what might you all be winning?

-ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two
    -Deardrops
    -Cho Dengeki Stryker
    -Infinity Plus full series
    -Pancake Mix

And there will be more prizes added!
OriginalRen has agreed to assist me in supplying prizes, direct from Japan. More info to come

Now then, with that out of the way, let us move on to doing our first challenge. As a reminder, all off topic talk, or posts that are not an entry must be placed in spoiler tags. This is for my own sanity when I am reading through posts, adding up points.

    Points Tally

Without any more delay, your week one challenge.

    WEEK 1
To start things off, just reply in this thread saying you wish to take part in this contest. All contestants will receive 5 points. Responding within 24 hours will start you off at 6 points. End Date: March 13

    WEEK 2
Hi there! I'm not dead, as close as it felt. I am using what strength I have right now to give all of you a Week 2 message. Your challenge this week will separate the contenders from the pretenders for this week is a drawing challenge!
Your challenge: Draw Batman into the Visual Novel of your choice
The drawing does not have to be incredible, or even good. Just submit some sort of drawing of Batman in a visual novel to receive points. 5 points to everyone who posts a drawing by March 18th. 3 points for everyone who posts between March 18th and  March 22nd. An extra 3 points to the person who posts my favorite work!

    WEEK 4
Ahhhh, I love how much effort you guys put into this. And no one fell for my trap of asking questions despite me not spelling out how much this past week was worth. Now to make you all super mad. There are no bonus points for week 3. Just  5 points for anyone who took part. I'll get around to points sheet ASAP (I have some papers for school to write first but I do have someone working on it for me).

Now this week, there are bonus points, so don't worry. This weeks challenge will weed out the last of the casuals. We've had many drop already, but I expect this week to really destroy the willpower of those wanting an easy contest. What is the challenge this week you ask?

Write a song based off the story you wrote for week 3.
That's right. This week, you are to write a song based off the story you wrote just last week. This is a basic 5 point week. Respond within 24 hours with a song and receive 6 points instead. As for the bonus, anyone who sings their song (no music required) and posts it for everyone to listen will receive and unspecified amount of points. The less people who do it, the more the bonus will be.

    WEEK 5

    DAY ONE
Hello hello, and welcome to the daily challenges. Each day, you will be issued a challenge. Completing the challenge will net you 5 points towards this glorious competition. Now, I know many people have dropped out, which is a shame. Though... if everyone drops out, I won't have to give this stuff away. Right, so we have a goal this week now. Isn't that nice?

Your first daily challenge is as follows: Mario is easily the face of Nintendo, and arguably the most recognizable figure in video games. Who would you say is the most recognizable character in Visual Novels, and why?

    DAY TWO

Time for another question. What do you feel are the 5 most important letters of the English alphabet?

Just a heads up, anyone in this competition who does not take part in the day 3 challenge tomorrow, will lose 10 points.

    DAY THREE

Those who do not take part in Day 3, will lose 10 points

I also... am not really sorry for this at all. Up to this point, I have been very nice to all of you with your challenges. That ends today.
Your challenge today, is to write a 150+ word story, without using the 5 letters you picked in Day 2. If you use any of the 5 letters you picked in Day 2, you will lose 8 points, and face an even worse challenge for day 4. Fear not though, I do rubber band things towards to end. So be sure to remain strong through adversity. For I will not allow you to face impossible odds.

    DAY FOUR

Have fun with Day Three? No? Good. Day Four will continue my mean streak. Take your Day Three story, pick two more letters to remove that are featured in your story more than 3 times a piece, and rewrite the whole story without those newly removed letters, with real, English words. As a final stipulation, there can be no words that end in -ing.
Again, find two letters in your day 3 story that repeats more than 3 times a piece, and remove them while rewriting the story to match as close as possible to what you wrote. And remember, no words that end in -ing as well.

    15 point challenge.

    WEEK 6
There is no day 7. I screwed up the timing and was a day behind. A fact I did not realize until today. Oh well, that gave me more time to plan an even more evil challenge than the Day 6 challenge that was so popular. Congrats to suikashoujo or whatever your name is for winning the 10 bonus points. Day 5 was worth 5, and Day 6 5.

Now then, on to week 6. Week 6 is another scavenger hunt! Except this time, you will searching my posts on Fuwanovel for 22 red letters. Once you gather all 22 red letters, organize them into a specific phrase that I have picked. Once one person gets the correct answer, the week will end. This week is a winner take all week for the points, 20 of them. Except with a catch.

You all may work together and provide hints and directions as you wish. Be mindful though, only the first person to get the correct solution will receive the 20 points for the week. On top of that, if the person who gets the correct answer first sits outside of the top point totals on my score sheet, then the top contest scorers will lose 20 points. If the person who wins is in the top scorers, then they will simply get 20 points and have a large lead going into Week 7.

    The top scorers currently are:
    Suika
    flutterz
    vibrantblade
    kata
    rose
    ivanlegato

    Godspeed ladies and gentlemen

PS: Seriously, stop complaining and asking questions. Zodai, you will receive your verdict tomorrow. Also awaiting a possible judgement; Noah_Crises for simply replacing banned letters with x's and other letters while leaving a key.

Note: If this is solved within 48 hours, I will add another one this week.

    Alright. Here goes my idea.

Once upon a time, there lived in the land of Visnovella, a knight by the name of Omni. Now Omni was one of those old fashioned knights. He still followed the old religion of Visnovella, and resented those who realized the old religion was quite silly and oftentimes wrong in the face of fact. Still, nobody in Visnovella could question his drive. Omni, however, began to become upset by the new Visnovella. He hated the way the land was being ruled, and despised its new religion. So Omni picked the only option left to him... rebellion.

Now, if you have ever read the account of Don Quixote, you might know where this is heading. Omni had grand dreams of remaking Visnovella in his own way. He dreamed of pure freedom. Everyone was entitled to anything, and he felt he had the masses behind him.

Sadly, in reality, he merely had himself and a small handful of like minded people. Without acknowledging this fact upfront, Omni unknowingly began sneaking around, trying not to draw attention to his greater plans. He sought after powerful allies who might lend him their strength in his crusade.

Meanwhile, a new enemy to Omni had appeared. The great dragon, Sepoj had entered the stage. Alongside Gangamamer, and Asuja, Sepoj began entering the lands of Visnovella. However, Visnovella and the dragons had long since set aside their differences and reached a peace agreement. Omni hated this and wanted the three dragons destroyed. Only then could Visnovella truly be free he felt. So Omni began making his moves. Grand moves, that in his mind, would crumble away the foundations of Visnovella and allow him to take charge. These grand moves, however, more resembled a child kicking and screaming that he didn't get what he wanted.

In the end, Omni continues his childish adventures, never realizing what a giant waste of time he is undertaking. Meanwhile, the observant citizens and leaders of Visnovella sliently hold in their laughter at this poor, misguided man.

There is my idea. It's a tad depressing, but not all stories are meant to be happy I suppose. Thoughts? If this gets done, I'd like a nice commission please.

I don't like to use the term visual novel.  It's too darn serious.

The words visual novel have an oddly formal ring to them.  When someone says visual novel, I immediately think of all the discussions about elevating visual novels to an art form (as it were), how to improve them by separating them from anime tropes, how important it is to have a serious, epic storyline, and so forth.  (The thought might also cross my mind of statements made about ero scenes gaining legitimacy by being "crucial to the story", but that is another kettle of fish.)

But I'm personally going back to "galgame" (or just "game" in context).  For me, this conjures up thoughts of, for example, cute, moe 2D girls all holding out chopsticks trying to feed you an octopus sausage or tamagoyaki simultaneously (yes I say "you" because I always think in terms of the player character so whether I say "you", or Tatsuya or whatever his name is, in describing a scene, it makes no difference in my mind.).  In other words, I think more in terms of entertainment, and accept any mild cheesiness as part of the fun, as I do with anime.

I don't like to use the term project for translations.

Now I'm very serious-minded about translation accuracy/transparency.  You see, even though I don't fret over the actual narrative value of the game I might be playing, I sure don't want jumbled up, goofy text in a game that is primarily text-based, like a you-know-what.  I don't want to be reminded of those Hong Kong anime bootlegs people used to watch.  I know I have certainly seen comments to the contrary, a sort of who-cares-how-it's-translated-if-it's-just-moege attitude (And if a game gets labeled a "nukige", you may as well forget about it, regardless of what kind of content the game has besides ero-scenes).  I happen to be fanatical enough think that translations are worth getting right even if it only lets you get to know some cute 2D girls a little better.  I must be nuts.

Nevertheless, I've discovered a few things since Mikukisu etc.  After trying to move up to the big league, I found out that just being able to translate Japanese to English does not make you a fan translator.  You need a lot of determination.  You need (appallingly) people skills.  And most of all, you need time.  I don't have these things.  I don't know if and when I will get these things.  So from now on, instead of "projects" it will simply be "stuff I translated."

Look at all the stuff that people on "projects" have to deal with.  "Is this something people are really going to want to play?  Will we really be able to complete this before we get sick of it?  What if people or patch files suddenly disappear?  Is someone else working on the same game in secret and will beat us to a release?"  And so on.  It's just too much.

But if I just do "stuff", then it's different.  I can relax.  I'll translate things that happen to interest me personally, in whatever spare moments I happen to have.  No promises or unfurl-the-banner announcements will be made.  If something is going to become a project, I want it to do so of its own volition.  That's what happened with Mikukisu--it didn't start out as a "project", it became one.  So no projects from now on.  Just seedlings that I or perhaps someone else can raise into a project if fortune smiles on us.

Oh well, I don't usually make long posts like this.  So please put up with it one time...
