  1. I too prefer to skip any route containing scat. I just don't find that fetish attractive at all
  2. Nice video. Now I'm starting to get an idea of the setup and it is indeed a nice one for a game. It's still a bit vague on the VN part itself. From what we know so far, it seems to take place in a makeshift fortress, possibly with divine assistance. However it doesn't tell if it's drama, comedy, slice of life or something else or even a combination of those. However I have to say that I'm still not a fan of Lisistrata's voice. It's so high pitch that I'm fairly certain that I will not last through an entire VN if that voice appears all the time. While I would prefer a deeper voice, at least allow the option of disabling voices on a per character level. It goes without saying that all voices should be written as text as well. It's not a problem in a VN, but you have non-VN parts as well. Adding voice only critical information would clash with the ability to disable voices. Also it would be a good idea to ensure the game is playable for deaf people. Deaf players do exist and I have seen one complaining about releasing a voice only game on GOG. They quickly released the text only version as an additional optional download.
  3. Reading through the posts, I noticed a pattern. I will classify the posts as belonging to either of the two groups: Completed: Read all text and reached all endings and CGs Done with it: Reached the endings you want and don't care about the rest VNDB has the classification "dropped", but I think that's more like it's not liking the story and stop in the middle of the common route or something like that. That's not the same as the done classification. As long as we mix both completed and done into completed, we will never agree to a definition of what it mean to complete a VN. I would add that completing a VN despite knowing in advance that you need to read through routes you don't care about is silly and there is nothing wrong with sticking to just being done with the routes, which interest you. It's not like one approach is better than the other. In fact it would be best to mix them and feel free to use either on a per VN approach. The amount of English releases have become so great in recent years that it's no longer a matter of just accepting what you can get, but rather you can now be picky about what you read.
  4. This is pretty much the definition of finishing a VN. This makes some VNs really hard to finish because not all can be finished with a simple walkthough. For instance Private Nurse has some randomness into the H scenes, meaning reading all the text and finishing all the routes might not have collected all the CGs. In fact due to the way the CGs can be reviewed, the complete number of CGs is not generally known and it's impossible to tell if you really got all variations of every single one. What you should do is to read to have fun. If you don't feel like completing a VN, then don't do that. Not all VNs are worth completing.
  5. If the mentality of the people of Hokkaidou is even remotely like it is in Snow Sakura, then it sounds like an awesome place. What I know of the place from outside VNs is not bad either, maybe except the risk of heavy snowfall and seismic activity. It doesn't strike me as a place with a lot of otakus as I suspect that is more of a big city thing, but then again Hatsune Miku apparently had a concert in Sapporo, which was full of people, meaning there has to be some people with such interests.
  6. Worst online argument: this one It's a really good quote. I really like it. It's just a shame it's used incorrectly. There are two issues with your "proof". 1: the angle stuff. It sounds ok to me and is not farfetched according to either math or physics, but I have two issues with it. One is if that's the case, why haven't I encountered this before? Also is it correct? I need a better source than "somebody on the internet said it" before I will start to accept it as fact. I expect you to treat my statements the same if you are really interested. 2: assuming you are correct about the reflection, it does not provide any sort of proof to tell if the reflectors are placed by humans or machines and as such can't be used to proof presence of humans. This is precisely why I didn't want to talk about this. It turned into the religious talk I feared rather than an objective one. I get the feeling you learned somewhere that the reflectors are the ultimate proof of the Apollo missions. When I question it as such a proof, your reaction isn't to reflect on what I wrote, but rather to maintain your stand and yell conspiracy theorist and science denier, which in this case is just as good as "it's true because my mom says so". Your statements in the last two posts insinuates that you question my sanity. I find that quite harsh considering you assume me to assume the Apollo missions to be fake despite the fact that I explicitly stated I won't make such a statement because there is no solid proof to support a claim like that. I don't really care if you believe the Apollo missions or not, or if you believe the moon is a giant floating egg or whatever. What I do care about is how you assume statements from me, which I didn't make and that way try to make me look foolish. Me too (well not nut, but very interested and skilled), but math is not the answer to everything. You need to learn about garbage in, garbage out as this is a scenario where the result is wrong despite the math being perfect. Also I can't really see how math alone can provide the answer to the question if the reflectors are placed by a human being or by a remote controlled machine, particularly if it has to be proven as in no assumptions, which can turn out to be wrong.
  7. I did come to Fuwa because I was unhappy with HongFire for many reasons (it was even better back then than it is today). It looks like I made the right choice because eventually I found @Happiness+ here
  8. Does this include everything on your list or everything mentioned in this thread. In other words did my description of Snow Sakura actually manage to get you interested in a 14 year old VN?
  9. A community of nutcases all debating heavily about literature in an alien language, which to a number of people is mainly about getting virtual people to make out. However my involvement with the VN community is irrelevant to this You have to look at this with the eyes of the 60s, not modern eyes. The cold war was raging and the key to success was Mutual assured destruction (MAD). In other words it was all about having nukes, which could be fired even after your own country was gone. If no sides would win, the hope was that nobody on the other side would start an attack. This resulted in a lot of creativity in hiding places and deployment systems. One of them was an orbital weapons platform, which could strike anywhere in the world without warning. It was called Sputnik and was really just a radio transmitter saying bib once in a while. However NATO didn't know that and feared an attack from a location they could not counter and because of that, for MAD purposes it was just as good as if it had been a nuke. The Soviets were winning the space race with placing a man in orbit, first spacewalk and all that. Next came the moon. The soviets built a rocket and designed it to go around the moon and come back. They just had one big problem, which was they did not have a telescope good enough to verify that it would do that. What they did instead was to leak the flight plan complete with timestamps to somebody they suspected of being a spy. UK then monitored the entire flight, verified that it went around the moon as planned and spies in the UK reported back that the mission was a success. It certainly was a creative solution for the Soviets, but it didn't help in hiding that they could not monitor the moon that closely themselves. Now both sides sent a lot of unmanned rockets towards the moon but the Soviets were still leading with the first remote controlled vehicle driving there, first pictures sent back etc. The Americans decided once and for all to beat the Soviets and send people to the moon and get them back again and then they did so multiple times. The Americans did talk about nukes. Now that they were able to land on the moon and launch again, it would be possible to place nukes there, out of reach by the Soviets and make them strike Soviet if needed and they could do nothing about it. There were also talk about making an actual colony on the moon. The Soviets had severe problems. Still without a proper telescope, they had no way of knowing if the Americans actually did place nukes on the moon and as such in the best MAD style, they had to assume and it ended up being as effective as if they had done it. The Soviets did eventually build a telescope good enough to track rocket movement to the moon, but while it was under construction, NASA stopped the moon missions and put in everything on the voyager mission (they discovered the planets would place themselves in a way which would allow one spacecraft to visit all of them in one journey, something which is only possible once every 2xx years and they did not want to miss that chance) and after that it was all about Mars. In other words the Soviets had no way of knowing how many rockets the Americans sent to the moon. Today it's very clear that no nukes ever made it to the moon and nobody started to build a colony. There was some talking about it and it most likely did trick the Soviets, making it a major MAD victory. The question is if the tricking the Soviets went as far as to fake even getting people up there at all. It's not farfetched compared to what other scams took place during the cold war. In the end, the Soviet Union lost the cold war, but they did win the MAD race. They built submarines, which Russia has today. Think Red October kind of subs. They are constantly hiding under the North Pole and can at any time go through the ice sheet and fire 24 nukes. Their range allows them to even hit the Golf of Mexico and as such all of NATO. We know they are there, but not precisely where and as such they are as unreachable as if they were placed on the moon, The difference is that the subs are real. Sounds interesting. The problem is that I can't verify if the reflection is in fact polarized or angle of return or anything like that. Also even if the reflectors are there, it's not definitive proof that it was put up by humans. It could have been set up by a remote controlled vehicle, which is still up there. The question is not if rockets ever made it to the moon, but rather if man made it there and came back. As I wrote earlier, the debate is pointless because it seems that all the evidence can be questioned with reasonable arguments and it goes both ways. As a result, it ends up being a question of who you trust, hence the reference to make it like debating what is "the best religion". You should note that I'm not actually arguing for any side of the argument, only that it's not possible to rule out either side. There is a big difference there. The reason for this is that I don't know what took place and I will not argue for something unless I'm fairly certain I argue for the right side in an argument. And now I ended up debating this anyway even though I stated I wouldn't do it. However I felt like I didn't have a choice due to my sanity being questioned. In fact that is mainly what this post is about. The fact that it's about the Apollo program is secondary to defending my sanity in my earlier statement. Also I still think it's off topic and we should end the pointless debate about the Lunar Landings. You should also end questioning my sanity. There is no issue there at all.
  10. I did some research and now I'm following up with some grave digging. I researched the deep south, or the bible belt as it's also known. Places with deeply conservative people who goes to church every week. I did not uncover any signs of sex ed based on religion or ordering students to not have sex without telling them why. What I did learn was that the sex ed seems rather good. It is focused on pregnancy, what happens during pregnancy, how to control how to get one and how to avoid it. Other topics being taught is STDs and puberty. I didn't uncover anything, which would give me concern for quality. However I have to point out that there is no federal law regarding sex ed and as such each state has to make their own law. As a result, the law in this regard can vary greatly from state to state. I had to handpick a few states based on how easy it would be for me to get info and as such I can't rule out that I missed some states, which are screwed up. However I can say that stating that the entire bible belt has horrible sex ed is not correct.
  11. So I should leave earlier.... interesting proposal to leave before class ended You are not one of those who naively believe public transport runs at the time you need it to run, do you? One line ago, I was a moron, now I'm smart. I wonder when I will be stupid. Besides I'm luckily not one of those who aced everything and can understand everything in the book in no time. As much as I wanted to be one at one point, I have seen how that turns out. Once it get really hard, those used to high grades with ease tend to hit a wall and with limited experience in working on studying something, which doesn't just come on its own, but really requires a lot of work, they end up not doing well. Those joining the university with really high grades have a higher risk of dropping out than those with average grades (average of those actually getting in, that is). You should be happy you learn to gain knowledge even if it doesn't seem like a good thing while you study.
  12. No because the surface of the moon is reflective in itself. This mean it should possible to aim the laser at a non-dark spot on the moon and some reflection will come back. I should add that this is not my statement, but rather a statement made in public to debunk the argument regarding the reflectors being proof of the Apollo program. Personally I'm not sure what to make of it. The moon is reflective or it would be all black even during full moon. The question is not if the surface of the moon will reflect a laser beam (it will), but if it will reflect enough to make it detectable from Earth. I don't know the answer to that one. It's also worth mentioning that even if the surface can reflect, it's not in itself proof that the reflectors are not there. This one of the reasons I don't think we should debate this because it has been debated by scientists for decades and the result seems to be all proof from either side seems to be debunked based on actual science. The motive for a scam is claimed to be to trick the Soviet union to think the Americans had placed nuclear rockets on the moon, which actually makes sense if you know about cold war politics. As a result, debating anything here is pointless because it ends up being religious where each side claim they are right without undeniable proof. Besides I will not enter a debate and argue for one side when I don't know if I'm on the right side.
  13. P.E exam? I never tried that. The closest thing was a PE teacher who didn't bother to keep track of how well each student performed. Instead we just had to run for 12 minutes and count how many rounds you could make on the track. The higher the count, the higher the grade. Most students hated it, but I was thinking like "it's just 12 minutes and it always give me a better grade than my general performance would provide". Back then I trained running daily. I called the training game "catching the bus". Math and physics. While I generally view those as fun topics, they quickly lose the fun part when approaching any kind of test. Good luck with your exams. EDIT: actually "fckin P.E". Somehow I suspect what you are talking about is less adult than you make it sound like. "f*ing physical exercise" sounds like fun.
  14. None. I didn't even know such a thing existed, though I'm not surprised. I watched a few Kaguya Luna videos and ended up puzzled. From what I can tell, it's a girl standing there talking. She has a tendency to bend forward and her chest is certainly not shy. The question is what is she talking about? If we take "THE TRUTH BEHIND WOMEN!!!", she is basically saying women say one thing and mean something different. It looks to me like the target audience is men in their 30s or 40s, who can't get a date and she is telling them it's because women are cruel towards men. If I ended up on a date with a woman behaving like that video would indicate, I would dump her right away. Even being a hermit would be better than that treatment. However in the real 3D world, there are actually a lot of women who aren't like that. I'm left with one puzzling question: why should I even watch this?
  15. Snow Sakura. I think people tend to recommend the same VNs over and over. Now I will recommend something, which I have not seen being recommended at all. I feel it's a bit lost to history, which is a shame because it's actually a good one. The VN is about a guy whose parents goes overseas and he is sent to live with his uncle and his daughter (the cousin heroine). They live in a closed onsen hotel, meaning they have their own private onsen in the backyard. This naturally makes it a natural place to gather with all the friends (mixed gender). He is from a big city (Tokyo?) and the story takes place in rural Hokkaido. It's a slice of life comedy about the city boy who end up living in the countryside and the locals behave weirdly, yet are very friendly. The comedy is good, appears often, yet it changes often and as such will never repeat itself and get old. The routes contain growing romance with the heroine of choice and then stuff happens and it turns into drama as well. The comedy is also present in all routes, though drama takes priority and comedy and drama will not mix, which would otherwise have killed the drama mood. A bit of background info, which is not really explained in the VN: Hokkaido is the middle of nowhere by Japanese standards and it's lightly populated, not just by Japanese standard, but in general. All countries in EU have higher population density. It's also in the bottom half when compared to US state population densities. In other words it is extremely rural in an otherwise densely populated country like Japan. It makes a big fuss out of pointing out they commute to school by train and that it is a really weird train because it runs on diesel. This seems odd as most of the world is familiar with diesel trains. However early electric trains were used in mountains because they were much better than steam at hill climbing and they didn't smoke in the tunnels. Japan being all mountain switched to electric extremely early and since diesels had problems climbing hills early on as well, electric got a more than 50 year head start and absolutely dominated when diesel finally arrived. As a result diesel has never been anything but extremely niche in Japan and most Japanese have never even seen a diesel train. Hokkaido however never electrified and is the only place in Japan with diesel on main lines.
  16. I started writing about the Luna landing debate and how both sides tend to rely on awful arguments. "They are the experts. They know how to do the impossible" is not a valid argument even if it is for defending the Apollo program. However I realized it would be a lengthy post about cold war politics and physics and possibly a whole lot of other stuff, which would derail the thread. I think we should just go back to the topic and all agree that it's really stupid to claim either "the moon doesn't exist, the moon is populated with aliens, the Earth is flat" and other stuff of that nature.
  17. This argument is near impossible to win. If that is the attitude you are met with, I wouldn't know how to counter that in a way where the other person could be convinced otherwise. I suspect this depends on who you are asking, but I don't think anybody views it worse than "accepted that other people like that". Personally I have no problem with a female playing moege. In fact it could be moe in itself What made it bad in my case was the business relationship. If it was just some random person from the internet, then I would have banned him when he insisted on me spending time on his nonsense.
  18. I have had one argument where one person decided to convince me the Earth is flat. I could counter every single argument he provided, but he just didn't care what I said and he demanded that I couldn't just ignore him. I really wanted to just ban him, but offline business relations forced me to just act nice to all his garbage. Most of the arguments comes down to the world map being wrong because the shortest distance between two places appears to not be a straight line, "proofing" the world is a disc. However that is a known issue when you take a globe and try to put it on a 2D paper. Google Earth draws and calculates on a globe and unsurprisingly it debunks all his arguments. The flat Earth is a fairly new idea, like a little over a hundred years. The size of the Earth has been known for around 2000 years and the fact that it's a globe has been known much longer. Columbus didn't have problems with people fearing falling off the edge. Instead the argument against him was that he severely underestimated the length of the journey. He would run out of supplies and die of thirst or hunger before reaching Asia. 3 ships were way too expensive to gamble on such a mad man expedition with no chance of success. Lucky for Columbus America exist and he became a hero instead of being a fool who as predicted got himself killed trying to cross the Pacific without enough supplies. Pic or it didn't happen Agreed and it should have stopped when I made the post about an objective definition because after that only @Funyarinpa managed to provide anything useful to the argument. I think the issue can be summarized to the fact that non-gay males are attracted to feminine looks, which in itself is not gay. The debate is if it becomes gay to be interested in the groin region even when you know it's a male. VNDB had a thread where one person received death threads for preferring voiced VNs over unvoiced ones. No debate or anything. The statement was made and the next post was a death thread. No arguments or explanation or anything else sane, just a death threat. This was followed by 4-5 other posts with harassment, still no arguments before somebody started taking the thread back on track. I wrote this in past tense because the thread ended up looking much different after a mod came by. This was before the cleanup and mass troll banning. I had one incident which made me completely stop debating politics online. It was one debate where some people called out a politician for being racist and provided evidence in form of a quote. I posted that the quote was fake and debunked and provided a link as proof. After that some mod edited my post and gave me an official warning for promoting hate speech. Apparently it's ok to call people racists based of fake evidence, but it's not ok to say the evidence is proven to be fake.
  19. That's a flawed approach as you are investigating the sexuality of a person. It will not tell anything about the definition itself. It doesn't matter who I pick or if I pick any at all. The definition is still the same. See. Traps are indeed a sub section of yaoi. I don't want to debate this pointless topic. I would rather go back on topic and read what kind of arguments people will mention and why.
  20. There is no need for that anymore. I think I did it again. Have fun trying to figure out how to argue that this statement is wrong
  21. Actually the insides of vaginas are not straight. The penis actually bends when pushed inside. Oddly enough none of the genders feel this, but doctors and their lust for knowing the insides of the body have actually used x-ray to locate the precise shape and location of the vagina while in use. They said something about helping people with dysfunction, but we all know they just wanted to get funded to pay somebody to do it in the x-ray machine right in front of them If we try to be objective about this, if a man wants to put his penis inside an anus of another person and that person has a penis, but no vagina, then it seems to match the criteria for homosexuality. I don't know how clothing or facial features could fit into an objective classification.
  22. I'm not sure if I would call it an argument, but I was once in a chat where somebody announced his mother had stolen his money again and this time would be the last. He had found a knife in the kitchen and announced he was about to kill her. I spent nearly two hours talking him out of it. That night rank fairly high on my list of horrible experiences, mainly because I didn't know how it would end. As far as I know, the person in question might not even know what a VN is and as such is not somebody here. I can't really point to any arguments as such, at least not in the VN community. I suspect it's because starting arguments most of the time end up as either I don't really care enough to argue or I can deliver the winning argument before it really gets started.
  23. I absolutely love it. The setting in ancient Greece is great and it will make this title stand out because it's often overlooked. Often if a game (non-VN) takes place in ancient Greece, it can be re-skinned to match most other eras. From what I can tell, here is finally one, which actually digs into the era and will make good use of the otherwise unused potential. The graphics are good. They are nice to look at, clearly indicates the era, yet it has a hint of moe without overdoing it. I particularly like the skill tree. English voice acting is most certainly a good thing. However I'm not a fan of high pitch female voices. In fact the voice example is so high that I could consider disabling voices due to this. The story is... I'm not sure. I get the impression that this is a showcase of the RPG part and setting more than the VN part itself. Kamidori works very well and it's one of my favorite VNs. I mean this as an example telling that the genre works, not as a template to copy. A setting to disable combat animation would be most welcome. It looks nice and well done, but I have had enough of the jumping around and screen flashing from just the gif. This is a common "issue" in VNs. It usually makes the VN better and I'm sure it does in this one. I'm not particularly interested in a VN with a bunch of guys where the females are more like items they keep at home. It's not an era where you would want to be female.
  24. If you have firefox installed and is not updating it, then it will have known security exploits and should not be used online. When some software request the browser to open a certain URL, the system should open it in the default browser. I have more than once tried that it ended up not using the default browser and if it picks the outdated firefox, you risk that it will access a hacked page, which uses an unpatched security hole (because it's outdated). Just having an outdated browser installed is a security issue even if you never open it yourself. How likely it is that some application will ask your computer to open an infected page and bypass the default browser is another question, but the risk is not 0%.
  25. Rikaichan has made a statement about this issue. The benefit of using browsers mentioned here is that they get updated and as such should be safer than relying on an outdated version of firefox. The problem with an outdated browser is that all it takes is some application, which asks to open the homepage for the developer and it for some reason picks the wrong browser and your unsafe browser is online. It's not intended behavior, but it can happen.
