Considering the nature of the ending and the fact that request was impossible romance + a happy ending, wouldn't other 2 routes fit that description better. Thanks for remaining eden. Seriously, how could I forget about that? Though it does not really fit request exactly, but it is definitely worth to recommend it anyway. How much fantasy elements does ef and suika have? Btw. I didn't recommend S;G 0 because I was waiting for her to finish S;G so I would know whether she liked it. One friend requested me to ask this here, so here I go. She is looking for VNs which would be similar to: F/SN - Fate route + avalon Umineko - magic ending Dies Irae - Marie + her afterstory From what I understood, she wants something like impossible love, but with a happy (sort of) ending. Also, my friend like me also likes not pure SoL but seeing nature of impossible love most - fantasy. The best I came up with was Steins;Gate, Fata Morgana and Rewrite, but that was not enough for her so she asked for me to ask here.

Dumped Ikkikoi already. I wonder which Guilty Crown you are talking about. VN was quite good and its ending I think very fitting for prequel as for anime one... if you go with theories about symbolic ending then it was not bad as well.

Does all Key VNs have "Key ending" like their anime or just anime? Btw. Why masochist if you read Ikikoi? Was Amatsumi that good then? Never read it, but the last time I heard such comparison it ended up story about tentacle rape... Not fan of those... When you talk about Myth being confusing, in which way you mean it? Confusing in terms of complexity like lets say Ever 17/Umineko or confusing in terms that it is nonsense? How difficult is gaming part of Aselia? I am terrible at that. Personally I have heard a lot of bad about 3rd eyes games. My friend more or less spoiled me the ending of Testament. So far it looked like not bad chuuni with a terrible ending. It is not that I hate SoL, but rather I hate pure SoL because it usually turns out to be just badly written rom/com. So far from what I have read I only liked anime/light novel Oregairu because it was that well written and had interesting characters, not typical trashy ones. Most stories are ether dumb mc + moe or hot heroine or boring shoujo anime level nonsense. Haven't read Katawa Shoujo so I need to ask. Are you talking about mentally disable heroines (like completely dumb etc.) or one of those Japanese fetishes for girls without limbs? How good is Kara no Shoujo franchise? Especially if you are spoiled about the ending of 2nd VN? I have heard that it was pretty good mystery VN, but if ending is what I heard (basically bad end for true route) is that mystery still worth reading?

So I just finished reading Dies Irae which was my 50th VN! But when I was deciding what to read next and checked my list I found that it was way to large. I have nether money nor time to play them all. So I came here for help in order to decide which VNs to prioritize and which to ditch. I would like to reduce my plan to read list by at least 50%. My Japanese level is at level where I could finish Eustia and Grisaia. For me, story is the most important and unless it is written very very well, I don't really like pure slice of life stories (unless they have some sort of twist like fitting fantasy elements or something similar). So I just finished Dies Irae, but still have a few questions remaining. Could someone explain me if and how Marie's and Rea's routes are connected. I mean during Rea's route, close to the end, it seems that Reinhard saw memories from his fight with MC in Marie's route (the moment when Mercurius interrupted their fight in that route) In the end, which route/ending is considered True one? Marie + Omnia vincit Amor or Rea + Nihil difficile amanti. From what I see Kei and Kasumi more or less seem like bad ends while Marie and Rea as 2 true endings of equal worth, but many people claim that Rea is true one because of fight scenes... Correct me if I am wrong, but MC at the end of Rea's + extra story is his own (+Rusalka's) grandson?

After reading common route I want to cry from sadness... Why, oh why...I wish I could buy it... At this rate it will jump to at least my top 3 favorites....

I have a serious question. What are usual delays for such cases?

Today rather than for recommendation, I came with a question. When asked about VNs people who read translated works mostly think about something that can be considered legends of VN world/giants of VNs such as Fate, Umineko, Muv Luv etc. Since my knowledge of VNs is still lacking, I would like to ask about untranslated VNs. When it comes to untranslated VNs which VNs are considered to be those legendary giants of VNs? I could only think of Eustia, Baldr and Dies irae...

As someone who is doing selfstuding for the purpose of reading Japanese I can advise you this much from my personal experience: Learn grammar ASAP. Basic grammar is very important. From my experience, in terms of importance of importance I would give it 2nd place (after hiragana and katakana). You can always search for words or kanji, but knowing grammar makes your reading that much easier. For grammar I can recommend Tae Kim's guide mentioned above or a book Japanese the Manga Way. It is very important to actually read. This will help A LOT. After reading bunch of long VNs and getting stuck while reading Hapymaher I would like to read something short for a change, but then I noticed that my entire Plant to Read list consist of long VNs. Could anyone recommend me something as long as Eden* or preferably shorter, but which would still have good story? Untranslated stuff is fine as well. Something BESIDES these: Phenomeno, Eden* Grisaia side stories Guilty Crown Higanbana series Planetarian Saya no Uta Narcissu Ps. What is rough length of each route in Hapymaher? It feels very slow to me, but I doubt that is because of Japanese level I have finished more difficult stuff faster than I have finished part of 1 route...

Isn't that totally normal? The more one is exposed to something, the more familiar one gets with it, therefore one can judge better. For example, when I first watched anime I considered some shows like Infinite Stratos to be nearly masterpieces. The more I watched, the less I considered it to be good. Now, when I am getting close to 800 completed anime mark I consider it to be nearly trash (though I keep kind ratings on MAL)... I even want to say that I feel nearly shameful for my past opinion about it.

You see, that is why I noted that I was talking about OVA. Rurouni Kenshin OVA is completely different in terms of style from anime series. It was much darker and serious in tone. Comparing anime series with that OVA could be done in this way: anime series would be like Muv Luv VN while OVA would be Alternative. OVA is number 2 OVA on MAL for a reason and to add my personal opinion, it was the best part of franchise beating both anime and manga (even though it was adaptation)

I have to say that this is one amazing list. It turns out that most of stuff I read/plan to read actually matched this list. Though I don't really have the right to suggest anything because I don't have 100+ VN under my belt, but I would still like to ask a question. Why nothing was included from such powerhouses like Steins;Gate, Umineko or Baldr Sky Dive franchises? Considering their ratings on VNDB they belong to top 10. Considering popularity - they are very iconic and belong to most popular and respected franchises list. Quality wise they at least were equal or higher than some of entries on this list.

I knew of a guy who once showed Elfien Lied to his mother. After roughly 15 minutes he was forbidden to watch anime ever again. Luckily I was there and somehow managed to convince her to give second chance. At that time I showed her Grabe of Fireflies. She cried so much after that. Well, how you convince depends on parents themselves. Shingeki no Kyojin, Kimi no Na Wa, Steins;Gate, Rurouni Kenshin Trust and Betrayal OVA ( NOT original series, but OVA Trust and Betrayal) etc.

People above summarized everything quite well, even looking at explanations as a linguist. Human brains is amazing thing. When you read/study/use language you automatically imprint specific patterns into your brain and don't need to translate. In fact, many people who read a foreign language (any language, not limited to Japanese) can easily understand the meaning while not being able to translate it.

It is hard to describe. It left me with a feeling that something was missing or was cut off.
