  1. I will be sending invites to interested parties if there is anyone who wants to be a lead organizer for a renewed visual novel club.

Requirements: You need to have played a good number of visual novels. I'm going to pick people based on a combination of interest and their vndb page so keep it updated and let me know if you have an interest in organizing. You also need to be able to post regularly and have the time to read the visual novel you choose so you can participate in the discussion. This may include creating a post every few months explaining the potential options we vote on (without spoilers) to get people interested in voting. Members take turns with picking themes and creating a post for said theme.

  2. I generally play Junkrat, Mei, Tracer, Lucio, and am very mediocre at tanking. I like trying everything though although I am definitely better at junkrat than the others...depending on the map.

Overwatch just announced a new Tank Hero: Orisa. Initial impressions I've been getting in matches is that she has a sexy voice? Yeah haven't received too much legit feedback. She's pretty powerful for a new tank. A lot of people seem to like her...she's easier to kill with junkrat and doesn't actually get frozen by Mei's freeze gun so is a good counter to a number of heroes...she also can pull a few heroes out of stationary mode. I predict she'll be quite useful as time goes on.  If any of you want to play I'm pretty sure I'm still kyrt there.

  3. If the game was actually sold this way originally in Japan it does now have a full version and that's the one we should have received if for no other reason that people thinking poorly about the game being split into volumes on a misunderstanding/principle. I am not sure even now if we are only getting a piece of the first chapter or whether what we're receiving is the entire first chapter. It's quite confusing and difficult to determine.

Might you elaborate on what your issue with a division of a full product into various volumes at a fraction of the price is?

On that note, why do you claim you were "scammed"? I do believe the word 'volume' by itself implies the division of the overarching story into various parts, and that the expectation that a sole volume would provide a complete story is in itself fallacious. What issue did you run into?

In terms of pricing, it appears to be $30 for a medium length game somewhere around 13 hours long (I think, I have not yet played it whole). That's... not ideal, but not particularly unusual in the niche.
What I will comment on are the H-Scenes. Complementary material for those willing to fork over money as they are, that's a lot of money that needs to be forked over. I do believe this division into volumes allows them to charge even more for the lot of them.

I will go ahead and ignore the physical edition options as those have their own issues (shipping fee x3, paying extra for a physical edition each time whereas they could make it cheaper for us and them to release it in one box at the offset). There is also the whole idea of the completion principle in which we because the game is in an incomplete state we will continue thinking about it or have a drive to complete that which is incomplete...this is dangerous because they could increase the cost and we'd still purchase it in order to make the product complete. This is actually something that happens in the process of each Corona Blossom volume. The first is obvious in that three volumes means that the game is in an incomplete state the first game and second game and our desire to see it completed will push us to buy it. The second way this happens is with the removal and subsequent selling of the 18+ content  which again makes our brain realize that the game is incomplete without it and that we must have it. They increased the cost however of the 18+ patch after the first volume and chances are most people probably still purchased it if they already had the first volume patch. They increased the cost and yet the game itself did not change in size or substance. Hell if you bought the physical edition for the first volume chances were more likely that you bought the physical edition for the second volume as well.

The other issue with dividing the volume into multiple parts is that because it was being released multi-volume we supposedly could not be told various aspects of the game development including how long the game was in total or the quality of the translation. We also have no guarantee that the next volume will be of the same quality as the one that came before. My dislike for volumes or episodes in video games comes primarily from telltale games in which the quality and quantity often will dip throughout the release. One part might be 4 hours while another part might only be 1. There is no guarantee they won't sell the game cheaper at release or won't increase the cost for the next volume. Consistency is missing. Corona Blossom is roughly 10 dollars each volume not including the 18+ patch which after the first volume increases that initial 10 dollars by 10. Now you are having to pay an additional 10 dollars for what amounts to only a small addition which is clearly not worth the cost. The game itself is anywhere from 30-60 for the entire game and each volume is only about 4-ish hours long depending on reading speed. In this particular instance it did not hold true to my value of currency. I believe that 1 dollar should at a minimum equate to 1 hour of entertainment

In addition when they split up the volumes I felt disconnected to the story and characters after waiting so long to read the next piece and it became a chore to try an regain any amount of interest back. Some might say I should have just waited for the entire thing to release but they released it in volumes to get the game quicker and in pieces which meant that even if you wanted to wait the potential to have the game spoiled before you could read it all in one go was increased. The other issue as tackled by other people is that because it was multi-volumed it had no branching routes. Corona Blossom was a single story (likely the reason for its shorter length) and the game lost potential replay value because of it.  I believe than branching routes and choices are one of the strong suits of the visual novel medium and splitting the game up made it weaker as a result because it did not follow through on that. Not sure if this is completely the result of the game itself or the campaign for funding not being entirely clear but it definitely soured my experience on volume releases.

Just my opinion though, no need to go spreading it around.

  5. Don't support this as this would be just the beginning. Similar to how censorship is a slippery slope so are marketing ploys. If you want to see this continue to other games and companies then go ahead. I for one would prefer paying for a full game rather than having to pay more money to buy it in pieces. Not sure what overcame Mangagamer but this is an awful way to sell the game; figures good things come to an end. What's next Hapymaher or Rance sold by route or country, or type of character (yes I'm being facetious)? Be weary of this infecting other games. That said I have no interest in this game anyway.

Counterarguments can definitely be made (selling it in pieces gets us content quicker with a less wait time...except the game is supposedly finished being translated already, selling it in pieces makes it more expensive, they can however see if an interest exists, etc...

  6. I have absolutely no interest in Grisaia Phantom Trigger and the more than 3 volumes bullshit just means I won't support it (unless they say how long each volume is going to be). It's obvious Frontwing has realized thanks to Corona Blossom that they can piecemeal vns for better profits. Hell the only reason I bought the entire Corona Blossom is because I wanted a conclusion after getting scammed via the first one. It's not going to happen again. I might consider backing a full game but not going to go anywhere near something with volumes. Hell both Corona Blossom and Karakara really soured my experience on new visual novels and I likely won't back any further ones from any company.

  7. Bummer that Frontwing got it as that means it will be censored mosaics and indiegogo (I will hope it isn't though). I'm mixed on this on one hand it's great it's coming on the other I feel as if Frontwing may butcher a proper release for the reasons mentioned. If they piece-meal this game into multiple volumes so help me. I'll wait and see how Frontwing plans to release it before I 'jump for joy' about this announcement.

  8. Unfortunately the game as it currently is being released will have mosaics. For some people that's a deal breaker but not for me. It does however mean I'm not going to bother with a higher tier purchase. If the game becomes mosaic free I will probably more than double my pledge. As it is I'll be content with the 60 dollar digital tier. There are admittedly a few concerns I have;

    1. Who is doing the translation?

    2. How many translators for each game? (If the game has characters from other games a single translator is good for consistency otherwise we might have three completely different styles of translation which might ruin consistency and style.

    3. Is there any DRM if you get the game via Denpasoft instead of Steam or Nutaku?

    4. Is there any legitimate possibility that the game can get an unmosaiced release (this is very unlikely but I can hope it's not forsaken in these lands)

    5. Will other games (like Baldr Force series) be getting a similar release type.

    6. ETA on full release? (because no mention of this on the Kickstarter that I saw is kinda strange)

Well ain't someone picky, I'm assuming you are looking for a "video game" and not a visual novel since you posted in the "games" thread. Here is a list of the games that I know of that have some level of meaningful decision making that affects the narrative. (I'ma going to leave out Fallout because something tells me you know about that one)

    - Mass Effect Series

    - The Dragon Age Series

    - Life is Strange (Highly recommend this one, but be warned there maybe some lesbian undertones.... maybe...... if you are drunk and squint hard enough)

    - Papers Please

    - The Witcher Series

    - Beholder (Be warned this game is hard as balls)

    - Until Dawn (PS 4 Exclusive)

    - Pretty much anything Telltale games have done recently

    - WasteLands 2 (Pretty much the same as the original Fallouts 1-2)

    - Pillars of Eternity

I'm sure there are more but those are the ones that come off the top of my head.

Adding to the great list above some of these are varying quality and while most are available PC a few are not:

    - Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2

    - Deus Ex Series (first is old but my personal favorite but the recent games are pretty good)

    - Banner Saga Series

    - Alpha Protocol (game is very rough around the edges)

    - Elder Scrolls (although if you are a fan of fallout the likelihood you do not know this one is very unlikely)

    - Fire Emblem Series (both the old and the new have very meaningful choices because every action you make could change the outcome of who lives and dies)

    - Growlanser Series (underappreciated series)

    - Zero Escape Series

    - Shadowrun (Dragonfall or Hong Kong Extended)

    - Agarest War Series

    - The Stanley Parable

    - Always Sometimes Monsters

    - Dreamfall

    - TESLA EFFECT (Tex Murphy)

    - Samurai 4

    - Spec Ops: The Line

    - Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

    - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

    - Catherine

    - Jade Empire

    - Baldur's Gate

  10. Mangagamer's upcoming projects we can likely take from their current business partners as I think they prefer to keep new partnerships completely unexpected. I could of course be wrong but I find it likely that if those titles start seeing bursts of activity and become near completion in a short amount of time then they are more likely than not short nukige.

In preparation for Da Capo III I decided to finally finish Da Capo II. Right now I believe I am missing Minatsu's, Otome's, Yume's and Sakura's routes, so I started with Minatsu. Additionally, I don't remember finishing Nanaka's route, but I do remember at least starting it...

I did the same! I had also not managed to complete Otome, Yume, and Sakura's routes. I've since started Da Capo III however I'm making slow progress due to being busy but it's decent for the most part.  Once I am done with Da Capo III I'll probably finish Tokyo Babel before switching to Labyrinth of Grisaia/Koiken Otome/Corona Blossom/Root Double/11eyes/Majikoi/Himawari or some new vn that gets released.

  12. I'll be honest I have no interest in Pygmalion...just doesn't sound interesting. Perhaps I'll pick it up when it inevitably goes cheap but I think I will wait for something better to release at least initially. Hopefully we can still get something great from propeller in the future even if this particular game flops.

It's currently knocked Rance off the #1 perch.  That's a good sign.  I also want to see huge games from MangaGamer, like more Koihime.  In fact, wanting to play SKM is the main reason I started helping out on the project in the first place.

At the same time, I find it very hard to even think about buying Da Capo 3.  I picked up Da Capo 2 to see if it was better than the steaming hot garbage that was Da Capo 1, but haven't been able to make myself even install it.  I'm certainly not picking up DC3RX until I get decently far into DC2.

Da Capo 2 is ridiculously better than Da Capo 1 and even takes a few interesting concepts from the first games and does them far far better. That said however Da Capo III is currently better than DC2 and DC1 and I didn't even initially care for any of the heroines...they grow on you as does the game as a whole (at least where I currently am in the game). I pre-ordered this game and I'm not upset about it in the least.

  14. I'm decently into Ricca's route at the moment but was wondering is there a particular best order in which to read the routes in or does it not matter in the slightest. If the later then feel free to list the routes in order of your personal opinion on worst to best. If one route is generally considered better than all the others I generally like to read that last whereas I am sure other people would rather read it first. Any suggested order?

  15. 1. Not at this time no.

    2. Yes

    3. Censorship

3.2: I may one day pick the game up but not upon release and not until on sale at a later date. I do not like supporting localization censorship just to get a low rating on a game to sell more copies. Because of this I often will wait until a game is either used or a lot cheaper before I purchase a game that has been censored. Why give them full price for a game when we do not get the full game ourselves? I'll likely get it far down the road but I might also just skip rebuying it and simply going with the new DQ game coming out instead.

  16. The game is now out and I've started reading it. That said, however, is it essential to read all of the routes for Da Capo II...I've yet to do the 'sisters and sakura routes for that game (thought I did the sakura route but since I haven't done the sisters routes yet I must not have) and want to know if I should play those before getting too far in Da Capo III. Does anyone know if it matters at all?
