  1. Painting, programming, composing, etc are jobs. It doesn't matter if people does them because it is their passion, every one needs to eat. My primary concern is not making money, is to make a living out of art. Those "poor" artist were the reality of the situation 5 years ago, but that is changing. With platforms like Patreon and Youtube, being an artist is way easier (which doesn't mean its easy at all). Anybody with more than two brain cells knows that you need to make good games to make some money, and even if you do that is still hard. Thats why I disagree with Valve on its way to "fix" this problem, they seem to be going two steps backward with this change. If you want to call that "complaining", okay, whatever.
  2. I remember back in the old days when people said "don't study art, you will starve to death and live under a bridge" Well I can remember it, people still says it quite often. But damn, these evil depevelopers trying to make a living from their job, how dare they? /s I do agree that modarating is a "subjective" thing. But it could be done, actually, we already have moderators everywhere. Even if sometimes they are not fair, most of the times is way better to have them that just simple chaos. The problem with all of this is that they are getting rid of any kind of voting process. A lot of games didn't pass through Steam Greenlight. Now seems like every one able to pay the "fee" will get his game published. How is that a better system? "A couple of thousand of dollars is not a significant ammount of money for those serious in creating game" I don't think you said this with bad intentions, but is far from reality and is even insulting to some extent. A couple of thousand of dollars is an unreachable ammount of money in a lot of countries. It might not be in EEUU or in North-Europe, but it is in the rest of the world. Anyways, this isn't the end of indie games. Is just a way of making it harder for us without solving anything. But as you said, other platforms are still there, so I guess we will have to stick to them for now.
  3. I agree, but I still think is a dishonest move. I can understand youtube, is way too big to be modarated by just a litte group of people, but steam greenlight is not that big. A couple of people would have been more than enough to ensure that the games that got greenlight were following the rules. Steam can afford to pay that...
  4. People not empathising with developers and artist is a quite common thing, so don't worry. "A couple thousand dollars" is an unreachable ammount of money for quite a lot of indie developers. Steam Greenlight had an easy way to solve the shit flow: adding a couple of moderators. This wasn't the best solution, thats for sure. And I still don't get why the developers have to pay for people not wanting to see some bad games when they are scrolling through steam. As I said, adding moderators would have been an easy solution, but creating a pay wall is never a good idea.
  5. Valve have announced plans to abolish Steam Greenlight and replace it with "Steam Direct". Basically seems like they will now decide which games they publish and maybe they will rise the 100$ fee to even 5k $. I'm quite worried about this, since I planned to launch my game in steam greenlight in a couple of months, now I don't know if i should launch it already or wait. How do you think this will affect the VN market in the west? Specially since Steam Greenlight offered a really good way of marketing indie VNs. 6. @Zalor @maefdomn @Palas @atorq @Polycentric Thanks everyone for your help! I changed some things: I moved the text to the left side, changed the font and fixed the Menu buttons. I also added a blinking Click to Continue symbol, some minor details and erased the gray stripes on some areas as Maefdomn said (that was a pretty good idea). So now the the UI should be a lot cleaner. Here you have the results. Thanks!
  7. Hi! I've been working on the UI for some days and I could use a bit of feedback. I want to set the UI up before I start drawing the characters so I don't have to move or resize anything in the future. Both the character and the side images in this screenshot are just placeholders. So, does it looks good? It's too big? It's pleasant to the eyes? And finally, (I can change this latter but...) what about the font, easy to read? Cheers!
  8. What's the point of hacking on a VN? I get it on a FPS, but on a VN...
  9. Both are actually good! I like them, they sound very video gamey. But what comes to my mind is a pixel art game, or an rpg, not a visual novel.
  10. I would say, buy a cheap graphic tablet ASAP. Drawing with mouse sucks, especially if your hand is as shaky as mine.
  11. I have been in Florence and Rome, not only I had no problems, but people there were very nice.
  12. ''Art'' is a vague term. Anyways, I agree it could be art if the artist is trying to express some aspects about the characters through a sex scene, like insecurity or an important step in a relationship. Also the drawing itself could be very well done, with a good composition and technique, that would be art. Though the image you posted ...meh, I cant see the art in there.
  13. Loving the translation haha 1. Indifferent 2. It depends, it may affect big publishers, making them lose some sells. But I think is good for new developers, since they can get some renown, which is pretty important when you are starting.
  14. I have a pretty simple dream, but kind of hard to achieve, which is make a living out of my art. With art I mean my drawings, I like writing too but not as much as drawing. That's why I'm doing a VN right now. I know is hard to make a living out of VN, so I just see it as another step to achieve my dream. If i can't make it with VN I'll try with comics. Comics may be even harder tho. Its not like I have any other alternatives, I'm only good at drawing (I don't know how good I'm at writing since I haven't published anything) so I have to keep trying until I succeed or die or something... PS: I want to improve my english too.
  15. 1. Not really. The story doesn't look bad, but is not an original theme. But that's not bad at all, at least for me, any story can be good if it's well written. Even if its not original.2. The AI-nonAI, VR and all of that. I'm always interested in AIs. 3. Yeah! Looks great.4. They are okay, but I have to read some dialogue to know if I like the characters. 5. Really good! I mean, REALLY good. 6. Not at all, I actually like that. 7. Dunno, sorry D:8. Haven't played it but I'll give it a try tomorrow. ¡Good luck with the project!
  16. Is going to be pretty hard to find an artist willing to work for free, specially if you can't show them the script. Try to write a bit first so you have something to show. Good luck anyway!

    Cyberpunk VN

Thanks! And yes! I'm posting some updates on my twitter account at the moment, here: https://twitter.com/BloodDaughters I'll post it on this forum too, but less often. Only once I've done a lot of progress.

    Cyberpunk VN

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I'm trying to keep some kind of mix between vaporwave and retro style.
  20. Hello! First of all, this is my second post (but is like the first one) so I want to say: hey everyone. This web is like a VN paradise, I love it haha I've been working on a Cyberpunk VN for a month, mostly on the script but I have some art already and I wanted to show it to you. Hope you like it. I have a lot more but of couse I can't post it. So, thats the art but I want to talk a bit about the story and all of that, just because this is my first VN and I'm excited about it. As is said on the title the game will have a Cyberpunk/Sci-fi thematic with some soft philosophy on it and a lot of robots. All the protagonists are girls (with a bit of Yuri even if this is not an eroge~) Right now I'm thinking about using TyranoBuilder as engine, because I don't know anything about scripting, I'm not sure if is the best option though. I'm a bit worried about the music and the translation because: even if I have experience drawing and writing, this is my first time composing music so I will upload a couple of tracks in the future and you can tell me if they are any good. And since I'm spanish, I need to translate the script but my english is nowhere near perfect, so I may need help to correct the mistakes I will make translating the script. Thats all for now, I'll gladly answer any questions ;D Thanks everyone for reading me. Cheers.
