  1. Hi there, A few days ago I made a post asking for volunteers to help me proof and validate the year-end/new-year surveys. I've got the first survey ready for proofing. Survey: Visual Novel Translation Status (VNTS) Posts over on the blog Requirements: You read our weekly VNTS posts over on the Fuwazette blog What I need you to do: Take the survey as yourselves (mark your true answers, not randomly) Let me know if you want any questions changed Let me know if the survey sounded impartial Any other feedback is helpful! 2. RE: LocationGate This is actually something I've looked into a few times. It's a problem with the Invision IPB software, not our themes. It's hard to nail down where invision has buried that content in their code. I hadn't checked since the big update, however, so I went back in and started digging. No dice. Nosebleed has access to all the themes and their settings, so if he's ever craving a headache he can look into it as well. Until then, however, we'rejustgoingtohavetolivewithit. I've submitted several requests to Invision, and will send another one today.
  3. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. #ThoughtCrime @Segai, yeah, will get on it.
  4. Good points all around. It's more about convenience than this being a problem, specifically in WYSIWYG > HTML conversion for notes sections, dynamic editing without having to use our table plugin's backend, and cutting out some of the workflow. Nay and I are going to work on this tonight and see what we can come up with.
  5. Oh, weird! It's working for my phone. I'll look into it. In the meantime, does long-pressing bring up a paste option for you?
  6. Sent you a PM. If anyone else wants to volunteer, too, speak up!
  7. Short Version: Looking for a mySQL editor which will let me duplicate and edit tables for our VNTS posts. "Needs": a not-awful user interface; ability to list my columns next to each other; ability to duplicate and edit tables directly in a decent manner "Wants": make one of the columns WYSIWYG and be able to convert its content to a second column in HTML format; host and access the program on the site and not an offline client Depending on how extensive your consultation is, I'd be willing to pay you a bit for your time. Long version: We use a mySQL database for our weekly VNTS posts over on the blog, which works very nicely for our needs. That said, we currently have to make each table in Google Sheets > export as CSV > import the CSV into our plugins software which will then write it all into the mySQL database. This workflow gets the job done, but it's clunky. It would be really great if we had an editor which could just duplicate last week's tables and let us edit the new tables directly. Do you know mySQL? Do you know of any editors which could allow us to duplicate and edit tables directly? I'm not looking for an elaborate solution: the ability to duplicate last week's tables and edit the columns to input the latest information (including adding/deleting rows, etc.) is the minimum I'm looking for. (If possible, there are some advanced features I'd really love to have, but we can talk about those if somebody/multiple people speak up and want to help) If any of you know your way around mySQL and want to help me out, drop a comment in this thread and we can go over exactly what I need (and what I'd like in an ideal universe : P). Depending on how extensive your consultation is, I'd be willing to pay you a bit for your time. Thanks! - Tay
  8. Have you cleared your cookies/cache since the forums came back? Also, just so I can look in the right place: you're referring to the "Temporal" theme that was slow, ja?
  9. That really is bad, thanks for bringing that up. I was editing it on the light theme, and never would have noticed.
  10. Our software lets us set different keyboards for PC, Tablets and Mobile. I just haven't set up the tablet keyboard, yet! It'll get done soon, promise.
  11. Apologies : ( I guess that means you get to be Welcome-accosted a second time!
  12. Hi everybody, Congrats! The fact that you're reading this means that the forums are online and you successfully made it back. While the data loss sucks pretty hardcore, I do have some good news for you all: After an ungodly amount of time, I believe that all of the following items are now complete. If I think of more that I did, I'll add them. The forums text editor should now be fixed (correct icons, correct places) and match what we used to have I went through each and every walkthrough and fixed the spoilers and formatting errors There is a new forums theme: Dashboard. I still need to tweak it so that it looks better on the forums index on a desktop PC, but it's another light theme (yes! I heard your cries and have come to support the few of you who haven't fallen in love with Temporal!). It looks pretty slick on phones and tablets, I think. I fixed the spoiler function. If a post still has those weird spoiler problems where it shows some content before you expand it, just "Edit" it and then save the changes -- I believe everything is set up so that it'll fix itself as long as you make and save an edit (you don't need to touch the spoiler, just click "Edit", then "Save", without touching anything) A ton of back-end fixes and optimizations Killed round avatars Buried the body of round avatars Dug up the body of round avatars and burned it Re-buried the ashes of round avatars Set fire to the ground above the ashes of round avatars Please post any feedback/questions/lamentations about these upgrades/changes in this thread. Looking forward to your bug reports.
  13. Good evening, everybody, As you've no doubt noticed, the forums have lost several days' worth of data. The data loss was a result of error earlier this afternoon when I was troubleshooting a critical failure in our blogging software. I ran a recovery procedure to repair the blog, and erroneous code in my process deleted forums' database data. I later consulted Nayleen about our options and what went wrong, and unfortunately the only option available to us was to roll back to our last uncorrupted backup (which was last weekend). The data loss is my fault. I wrote my recovery programs and did not understand that two lines of code mixed-up database directories and -- ultimately -- would destroy the forums' database. I take data loss very seriously and I've tried to be responsible: I backup the site every few days and store the files in at least three places: the server, my personal cloud, and in an offline, enterprise-grade hard drive I obtained for this purpose. Today's data loss was not due to negligence in making backups: I had backups made as recently as yesterday; the problem is that the most-recent backups were corrupted in my recovery process today. I ultimately had to go back and pull a backup from my offline HDD to restore the forums. I want to apologize for the frustration many of you are feeling. Providing this community with a safe, reliable online home is something I take very seriously, and I fully understand that the loss of data amounts to an astounding amount of work. As soon as I realized the breadth of the problem I cleared my schedule and got to work. The only thing I can control is how things will change going forward. I've gone through all my recovery documents and programs and rigorously checked and fixed mis-directed database queries. As soon as I identify other helpful SOP changes, I will make them. Lastly -- I realize that this is yet another example of the need for technical assistance. I'm working on this actively, getting bids, and I'll post more about this soon in my community updates. Thank you for your patience. I'm committed to making Fuwanovel the reliable community we all want it to be, and I'm deeply sorry for this incident. - Tay
  14. Hey everybody, After a long and exhausting weekend of RL studying and working on really stupid behind-the-scenes stuff here on the site (I promise I'm not avoiding you, maef...) (), I've finally fixed our donations app. Thus! I'd like to explain the way I've been handling the donation system and get your feedback. (And, yes, this does mean the "Donate" button on the menu finally works : P) Here's an in-depth breakdown of the development fund. The floor is open to discussing anything on the topic, however. It's been a few months since I opened the floor to feedback, so I thought this was a good time to do so. Why accept donations? I'm committed to keeping the community up and running. I want to make sure Fuwanovel is here tomorrow, in six months, in a year, and more. While I am able to budget my RL funds in such a way to carry the cost, alone, enough people contacted me this spring about opening donations that I decided to give it a go.Right now the donations system will only exist until I can make the site self-sufficient through other ways (affiliate links, mostly -- I don't have any intentions at this time to try ads again)All the money donated goes back into the site. Funds first go to the current month's hosting bills, then to a “rainy day” fund, and then towards other site development per our site financial plan (which includes stuff like licensing fees, an eventual makeover for the Reviews Hub, and developing the new front site). How the Program is Currently Run People can choose to donate to the site through Paypal, and in exchange they are given "goodies" on the forums as a token of thanks.Up until now users had to donate directly through paypal and had to wait for me to manually grant their goodies. That's still an option, but I've finally finished setting up a way to auto-apply goodies by starting the donation within our forums' commerce app. Either way, Paypal is handling the donations from start to finish and I'm not seeing any of the details. The advantage of the new app, however, is that it auto-applies your goodies and doesn't auto-charge you each month.Current "Goodies" For Backers (Updated 11/02/15) PM allowance increased to 700More than twice as much rep allowance (up to 25 “Likes” per day)You can customize your profile page with backgrounds and colors (see mine for an example)If you can gather enough of you together to discuss it, we can change the "Backer" badge whenever you want! After 6 continuous months of support, you may PM Tay and inquire about "The Order". Should you prove worthy, you will be inducted into The Great Secret. Which doesn’t exist. Just ask Flutterz. These aren't the droids you're looking for. Move along, now. Move along.Ideology About Goodies I realize that not everyone is in a position to contribute to the development fund. That’s absolutely okay. The goal with the Development Fund isn't to raise a ton of money or create an elite race of Backers, it's meant to help raise funds to alleviate the site's cost. I tried my best to make sure these “goodies” weren’t granting some users exclusive site features while denying them to others. AKA: a regular user and a Backer are going to have access to all the same features and options on Fuwanovel -- there aren't any elite boards or secret Backer clubs. For our current Backers Short version: nothing changes for you (you don't need to cancel your paypal donation and re-sign up through the forums app)If you decide you do want to switch to managing your donations through the forums app, then I put instructions for cancelling your manual paypal subscription in the donate page.
  15. I've been promised that this should be improved in IPB 4.1 which was released earlier this week. I've held off on the update for two reasons: I want to wait and see if any of the other IPB admins run into huge problems (since our upgrade was so much fun) (/sarcasm)Our forum themes require updates (since 4.1 is a rather big upgrade) and I want to make sure they, too, are safe before making the jump.I'm hoping we can get it done by the end of the week, however, and we'll see how things go. (If we run into problems, we'll roll back to a backup we create just before the upgrade)
  16. Every week as I write VNTS I open MG's updates page and hope to see movement on this one... ... and every week I'm disappointed. Hope dies last, so in the meantime we must be strong!
  17. Hmmmm. Yeah, I probably wouldn't have noticed this, so thanks for bringing it to my attention! Do you have this problem on Rooke's Crappy Default Theme, too?
  18. Aaaaand done. So I suppose now it's time to return and report on what y'all did.
  19. Brace yourselves! Forums going offline in just a few mins!
  20. Loligeddon Survey is ending on Sunday so I have enough time to review the responses before taking this to our law maester.
