And I agree that it's a terrible starting point for VNs.

I got my IRL friend just recently into VNs. He played DDLC for the memes and didn't refuse to check a real VN after that. So i decided to try the magic of Katawa Shoujo as a "starter VN" and see what kind of results it will bring

  2. There was a bigger scale poll about favorite VNs made by @NowItsAngeTime i think

And the finale was Grisaia and Steins;gate, where SG had won. But ofc, people whose's favorite VN already lost against something didn't leave the poll, but voted for the others as it continued, so it can't exactly be called everyone's favorite. But at least roughly the most liked VN around here

As for me, SG and SG 0 combined are my favorite, although i still have my first real VN Everlasting summer placed on my top too

EDIT: found the link to the results

  3. I just started Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu, and i got so fired up that i watched 10 episodes straight (i could marathon this till the morning, but i'm not a fan of "anime all-nighters")

I'm having a great time with this one, it's very intriguing and intense. Psychological animes are just perfect

  4. Haven't read that many, so it's easy for me.

It all started somewhere on Newgrounds, but the ones there aren't really worth mentioning.

So if i ignore that, it would probably go like this

    Everlasting summer

    Katawa Shoujo

    Kono oozora

And from such innocent VNs, i jumped into Kara no shoujo (not finished btw)

    And i think i've read Steins;Gate after

  5. I just finished Houzuki's chapter in Sharin fandisc, and man it was briliant. I don't know how popular Houzuki is around the internet, but i think he's a great character

    Spoiler

Putting up Kenichi through a similiar ordeal as his own (or the one that Eri has set up for him), doing everything so thoroughly just to get stunned when he sees him surpass the point where he gave up, it just connects so cleverly. And the epilogue was just flawless. Motivated to continue where he left off many years ago, but with unwavering will this time...

And the finishing quote pretty much gave me goosebumps. "The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind him in other men the conviction and will to carry on."

I kinda went over it in the spoiler, though maybe I wasn't too specific.

For me calling it a twist is a bit of a stretch. There is this irony that I totally saw that coming but at the same time I knew it was not possible without pulling it out of your ass, but what with all the emphasis they put on the transitions between Kyousuke and Maou's perspective it was too obvious. And granted, as I said before, you could make up some half-assed excuses to account for all those false hints, but that's the same as saying that those are all a bunch of "coincidences" that were shown to you in order to fool you. That's just a very lazy plot device with no merit whatsoever from my perspective. For fuck's sake, they even had to make up all that bullshit of "Kyousuke behaved like Maou's at some points in the story because he was going crazy and actually believed he was" to justify his sudden change of mood the day after he kicked Usami out of his appartment and also that encounter with Tokita when she told him that there was something weird with him.

That's not the story trying to fool you, which is completely fine, but the narrative itself. I don't think that's intelectually honest.

So yeah, that. The main twist: bleh. The rest of the story: absolutely stunning. That epilogue is going to hunt me for days.

    Spoiler

I felt like the epilogue was kinda obvious, but there was just no way you could think that because there just wasn't space for such thoughts because of the immersion. So it seems you also totaly fell for it and thought that the kid wasn't Kyousuke's.

G-senjou has definitely two or more perfect characters, but sadly, not the protagonist. I'd probably give the highlights to Gonzou, despite Maou being so briliant.

Now, idk if you've read Sharin, but if you haven't, then you should check it out, since it's rather similiar to this one. It has a similiar kind of twist, but more properly concealed + some great characters

  7. There are more briliant ones from SG 0, but this is my favorite.

Then ofc, G-senjou no Maou's OST is whole perfect, no need to point out any particular song.

Clannad's soundtrack was also nice, but most of the songs don't mean anything without the story, so i'll just point out this one that's packed with emotions

Finished Kanon's route and all Chapter 3 in G-Senjou no Maou...

Now I'm supposed to go with Shiratori before moving onto Haru, but man, what a bummer, I really want to cut to the chase already. I'm seriously considering skipping Shiratori for now and then go back to it once I finish the true route. Could someone tell me how much I would be missing? Is it a no-no or semi-acceptable?

I think you should do Shiratori first, because there is one thing that is different and you would feel weird reading Shiratori's route after. If not for that, you could actually skip it, her route isn't that great, Kyousuke is just like a spectator most of the time
