Whenever a visual novel has a male, faceless protagonist I always imagine he looks like this.

Female, faceless protagonists have a slightly shorter beard.

    And no eye patch.

Darklord Rooke reacted to Kosakyun in Alice Soft — Translated Titles
    INTRODUCTION
Hi there! This was originally a thread titled "Alicesoft Titles - Translation Updates" that I made back in 2014. I initially dedicated this thread to monitoring the progress of well-known Alice Soft fan translation projects (FanTL) that were proliferating during the time. Fast forward almost 10 years later in 2023—the visual novel scene is more alive than it's ever been in international spaces with most titles being easily accessible in mainstream storefronts like Steam. A lot of titles have been picked up by numerous publishing companies, both old and new, and games previously thought to be in JP-only jail are now just one purchase away to read in English. Some even have multiple language options on release!
Alice Soft is one of many eroge companies that have decided to seek opportunities for sales in today's Western market. With around 40 years of experience being in the eroge market, it's no understatement to say that the company is one of the bigger names in the industry today. Their series that have long been loved by their Japanese audience are now being made available to a bigger international market that will experience their stories and fall in love with them as well. And hopefully, the number of these series will only continue to increase as the years pass by.
To sort of pay homage to this expansion, I thought it'd be better to turn this FanTL dedicated thread into one that neatly organizes both official and FanTL releases for Fuwanovel's users. May people someday stumble upon this thread and find their next game to obsess about in the numerous Alice Soft titles that are now available in English.

So I was interested in knowing how much has translation of VNs increased with time and I had done some research and now I decided to make a chart and to share it here so everyone can see. (Only fully translated VNs are included in a chart, nukiges aren't included in a chart).

And here are separated charts for fan-translated and officially localized VNs (VNs that ware fan-translated and later localized aren't included in localized chart)

This list won't feature the VNs in order of "how good they are". Rating them would be way too much of a clusterfuck to me.
The VNs are not in their respective order. Meaning number 1 is not the best, and so on.

    1_CHAOS; HEAD

    2_Cross Channel

    3_G-Senjou no Maou

    4_Fate/Stay Night

    5_Forest
This Visual Novel is the easiest visual novel translated to get a bad ending without using a walkthrough- which just adds to the fun of it. It makes a massive amount of references to common literature, which makes it even better.

    6_Katahane
It may seem like an ordinary moege- the atmosphere is light, the story is full of cuteness, which you can note by the character design and soundtrack. It gets really good in the middle, and you'll be dying to know what happens in the end. A game with multiple perspectives, it's definitely one of the most enjoyable Visual Novels I've ever read.

    7 Majikoi

    8_Little Busters!

    9_Tsukihime
"You shouldn't tell lies that you can't even fool yourself with"

It may seem like your ordinary moege. Trust me, it's not.

12_Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo (and sequel)

    13_Sekien no Inganock
Steampunk. An atmosphere full of mysteries and references that will make your head blow up.

    14_Steins; Gate
A visual novel that deals extensively with time travel and it's consequences.

    16_Fault: Milestone (1 & 2)

    19_Umineko no Naku Koro ni

    20_Planetarian

    21_Ever 17
    Another top 10.

    22_Remember11
It lacks in the ending, but otherwise the story of this VN has enough to easily become one of my all-time favorites.

    23_Zanmataisei Demonbane

    24_Rewrite
"Could it possibly be rewritten, this fate of hers?"
Another one that enters the top 10.

    25_Narcissu

    26_Grisaia no Kajitsu

    27_Saya no Uta
Only if you enjoy dark and messed up settings.

    28_Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni

    29_Eien no Aselia

    30_Rose Guns Days (1 & 2)
There are small sections of gameplay on this one, but you can skip them by pressing the space bar, so this still qualifies.

    31_Sengoku Rance
I feel obliged to comment on this VN before suggesting it to anyone. It's an Alicesoft title, which speaks a lot for itself... If you don't know how it's going to be like, well.. Kind of tough to describe. Lots of sex, including comedy rape. Alicesoft tends to make the whole story a comedy until right near the end, where things actually do get serious. It's worth checking out, if you don't mind Rance's personality.

    32_Phenomeno
Want a short VN that can captivate you for their whole duration? Here is it.
Visual novel adapted from the youth horror novel written by Hajime Ninomae and illustrated by yoshitoshi ABe.

33_Ef- A Fairy Tale of the Two

    34_Dysfunctional Systems
Another one great for those who want short Visual Novels.

    35_Daibanchou
Another Alicesoft title. While Rouga is not near Rance's level when it comes to pissing off people, alicesoft's style is something which often doesn't please people.
    36_Yume Miru Kusuri
The endings pack quite a punch.

    37_Kikokugai- The Cyber Slayer

    38_Eden

    39_Hoshizora no Memoria

    40_Katawa Shoujo
Yep, it's somewhat overrated. Still, the fact that it is substantially easier for those who are starting to play visual novels to read should not be discarded, and overall, the story was good.

    41_World End Economica

    42_YU-NO

    43_Shikkoku no Sharnoth
Yep, there is a minigame on this one. If you download a save data you can skip the minigame, though. So it still qualifies. Another VN that enters my top 10.

    44_Muv Luv Alternative
The first Muv Luv didn't have enough to enter this list. You should still read it, though~
    MLA is definitely awesome.

Yeah, that’s rubbish. Nowhere in the definition of ‘maturity’ does it say ‘always refrains from letting their hair down.’

You don’t know a person very well until you actually live with them, and unless you’re close friends with everybody in the school I very much doubt you know these people well enough to judge them. They may appear immature, wild, and emotional, but people look like a lot of things. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if things were always as they appeared to be?

I knew of someone in high school, on drugs, partying, very wild and loud, had plenty of talent as a musician though. I thought what an immature person this person was, she was throwing her (considerable) talent away because of her lack of maturity. Not long afterward she committed suicide. Turned out she came from a very abusive family, she wasn't immature but distressed. Very sad. Another person I knew who regularly flaunted the law as a teenager is now a very respectable policeman, because at the end of the day people build character by getting out of their comfort zones, experiencing new things and forging relationships. These form new pathways in the brain, these activities lead to maturity. People don't grow as individuals by locking themselves in their rooms (says 'Rooke the hermit' who surrounds himself with books...)

@MetalUpa: Yeah, school can be a fairly brutal time. It’s one of the most inefficient and pointless institutions which currently exists, and it totally refuses to change or modernise so it’s quickly losing relevancy. It also punishes those who can’t network or build relationships effectively.

That being said, don’t try and rush through life. Is there any reason you are desperate to get into a relationship right now? Especially when you don’t value the people around you. Is there any reason you’re desperate to go to the school dance? For what reason and purpose? Is there any tangible benefit to participating in this event? Besides a small boost in pleasure, and satisfaction at being included in a crowd you don’t have much respect for?

Regarding your inability to connect with people, you may have to do a bit of searching. Visit anime conventions or something, that kind of thing. If there's nobody around you that connects with you, that just means you have to look harder. Despite what a lot of youngsters think you're not an individual, there are plenty of other people like you around, you just may have to search a little.

Regarding your neighbourhood, that doesn't sound like such a bad place to live. It would be worse if you had abusive neighbours, that's when you have real problems. If you think they're fake, concentrate on building up your skills and don't associate with them so much.

Avoid the abusive relationships though, they're not very good for you. Don't be so desperate to be in a relationship that you'll put up with it either. You're very young, you have your whole life ahead of you. Just concentrate on getting through this period, and establishing a clear path forward.

Darklord Rooke got a reaction from Funyarinpa in Vn Engines
Engine development is one of the areas which has been killing the Japanese gaming industry. Unlike Western development, Japanese gaming studios tend to spend a long time making a new engine for each game they make, and then abandoning it. Konami created a powerful new engine for MGS4, then never used it again. This is incredibly inefficient and costs a boat-load of time and money (although Konami are finally getting the idea with their new Fox engine.) Final Fantasy XIII has been a welcome exception, where they used the same engine for all 3 games substantially reducing the development time for the later 2. However, mucking around with the engine is part of the reason for the massive development time behind FFXV.

Not to mention Japanese Game developers find it much more difficult to licence 3rd party engines. Compare that to the West where Bioware licenced the Unreal Engine for their Mass Effect games, Borderlands uses the Unreal engine, Bioshock uses the unreal engine, XCOM uses the unreal engine, Gears of war uses the unreal engine, Wasteland 2 uses Unity, the Witcher 1 uses Aurora. Modding existing engines is where the West's PC background provides an advantage.

Anything which shortens development time for Japanese studios is a good thing. Spending ages building an engine from scratch when it's not needed is throwing money down the drain.

Yeah, I was going to just let that statement go, but I must say I had the same thought. Folks like Daimon and I would obviously take those words very seriously. We are all in different situations that have nothing to do with skills. A lot of people are still in school or college, so they might have less life experience to draw upon, and they have less money compared to those of us with jobs. Others just happen to have rich parents etc and can throw out a lot of money to make pretty things. Life was never known to be fair. Those in tougher positions still have a lot of heart, though. There needs to be respect for that.

I have come across someone whose profile said she was the most successful VN so and so developer. The profile was later changed, but unfortunately, I will always remember that description. These things are important. Love for others is not assumed but it is very much appreciated .

Darklord Rooke reacted to crunchytaco in Trolling?
Shortly after the birth of the internet, god decided to balance out the powers that be. He bestowed every newsgroup and message board with their resident troll. Tired of life under dreary bridges, these trolls emerged from their habitats to play mischief on humanity. They would often stir up debates, played devil's advocate, and disguised themselves as opposing sides of an argument. It was an art form to behold these trolls deliberately baiting people into full circle until one realized they've been had . That was how the idiom, "Don't feed the trolls" came about. Before his identity was understood, Stephen Colbert was a classic example of old fashion trolling.

That art form is now lost.

Having a personal computer was once a privilege owned by those with higher education, professionals and computer nerds who specialized in the science. It's now become a right to anyone but those still living in wood shacks and those still eating mud cookies. No doubt, when god gave the world internet, he advised them to multiply and be merry; and he saw that it was good. With more humankind however, invited more trouble. Trolling is now reduced to malicious attacks resulting from immaturity and well... mean spirited people in general. Repeatedly harassing others and flaming people for no good reason are now what falls under the category of trolling. The last bastion have retreated to places like 4CH, Reddit, Yahoo answers, and online gaming. May their sinful souls be cleansed in purgatory.

Look Sanada, just change your avatar already. If you get banned for it, and I don’t think you will, then take it up with Tay. Distracting avatars are not ban-worthy offences, nor are they grounds for requesting a user change their avatar. If .gifs are not to be used, an amendment to the forum rules is necessary.

If Steve took the matter up with you because users found it ‘distracting’, then he was abusing his power. But he is no longer an admin (thank God) and so you can feel free to ignore his concerns.

Communication should be clear and direct. Side-stepping the issue and/or letting someone else handle your business, only builds a mountain out of a molehill.

Hearing that there was an "invisible mass" of complaints against you isn't very helpful. All it builds is suspicion and resentment.

I know that there are few people here who like to be snide and snarky. The minute I call them out, they'll retreat but I'm willing to bet those are the same people lodging invisible complaints in the background if what Steve says is true.

If the game you're making is a pure VN, consider targeting the 'Interactive Fiction' crowd. The only difference between the majority of 'Interactive Fiction' and 'Visual Novels' is 'Visual Novels' have graphics and sound. The adventure game community might also be worth targeting, and the section of the RPG crowd who love heavy stories might be worth a go.

I wish you the best of luck.

Part of me is glad comments are going. Would like to see more forum topics to replace comments. We can support better that way. Just don't put in a ticket system or we'll be having words
