    Picking up Classroom Crisis tomorrow.

I've actually watched every anime on that list except for The Irregular at Magic High School, but I've already picked up the manga and LN. Heard the anime didn't turn out too well.

I'd recommend doing the opposite. Irregular was good. Classroom Crisis was garbage.

  2. Added Brighter than the dawning blue and AmagamiSS to my list, and added Kaichou wa maid sama and Maison Ikkoku to the others' list (though I plan to see them myself and they will graduate to my list).

I'm honestly kinda surprised to see Elfen Lied brought up in this thread. The level of satisfaction is debatable in the manga since it's a bittersweet ending, but the ending in the anime is frequently regarded as the worst part of the series. Not only does it completely deviate from the manga at that point, but it doesn't give a proper conclusion to the story. I don't particularly care about it personally, but I know a lot of people that were bothered by the pacing in the episode too.

Elfen Lied's ending is controversial enough that I won't put it on the list myself. I'd prefer it if most people find the ending satisfying rather than some.

Is Koutetsujou no Kabaneri worth watching???

I heard from someone this anime is a carbon copy from SnK...

It's sensational and the best series this season. The parallels between it and SnK are obvious but it's very much a unique storyline and that association will not get in the way of you enjoying Koutetsujou. Definitely watch it.

EDIT: Myself I finished watching Brighter than the dawning blue which was cute but painfully predictable and stupid romantic - just what I wanted to watch. Currently I'm finishing off oreshura and it's hilarious. Wish I'd watched this earlier.

I just finished my first vn in japanese! finally lol.

Amane switch, the drama and story was solid, im gonna write a review or more like right after impressions in a blog.

\o/ Time for you to help keep this thread then alive:

I haven't been making time for VNs aside from editing... but starting tonight I'm going to get back to...

I heartily approve your new signature :D Serious question though, do you think editing the game has spoilt your ability to enjoy it since you've had to examine 2 routes so carefully? Just as a reference point, I have not found that when translating a game, even if takes me more than 10x longer to get through the route.

I read a few routes from the source VN and wasn't terribly impressed. Maybe the anime is better? That's almost never the case, though.

It's pretty standard princess fare. I doubt very much the VN is challenging or dramatic in any way shape or form. The anime is pretty much stock standard moe and easy to watch. I definitely don't agree with the OP that it's the best thing ever but it's cute to watch like I said.

EDIT: Nihonreview which is harsh with its reviews didn't think much of it..

  7. Rezero 7 remains awesome and goes up even a notch further. Plot unfolding, things explained, characters fleshed out, action well animated. Nothing to complain about.

    Spoiler

What does Beatrice now? Every time he's come back from a loop she's given hints that she knows about him dying and is perhaps able to see the whole time loop.

Ittaku, thanks, and glad to meet someone our age   Are you programming a VN yourself?

No I'm a linux kernel and bitcoin hacker primarily. My VN interest is purely on the translation side. While I have a translation project of my own (ToHeart2), I did very little programming on it, being the translator for it and other groups' projects (currently Clover Day's).

  9. Thank you all very much for your recommendations. There are some there that I hadn't considered and that's a great thing. There are some that I've read reviews that say the romance is never resolved; unfortunately the one thing I can't stand is a romance that never evolves but should. If no one ever confesses or proposes or whatever after 24000 episodes, I want to rip my eyeballs out. I've already bad things about some of those but I should know better than to trust one review.

    Regarding your specific recommendations:

Nozaki kun - I watched one episode and read that the romance never resolves and put it down ages ago

Kimi ni todoke - have put this on and off the backburner numerous times due to reviews and possible story issues

Princess Jellyfish - have considered this in the past, will look into

    Chihayafuru - will investigate

Honey and Clover - on my dropped will never finish list. Hated it

Itazura - not a fan of nasty protagonists so have avoided but will investigate. Cold is okay, nasty is not

    Da Capo - will investigate

    Kimikiss - will investigate

Kaichou wa maid sama - will watch

    Special A - will watch

    Emma - will investigate

    Fortune Aerial - will investigate

Working!! - my reference comedy romance show ever, have watched 5 times with my wife already. Went looking for what else the same mangaka has done and she wrote servant x service which is pretty good but incomplete and is writing my monster girl which may get animated, so w00t to more from her.

    Lucky Star - hrm

Keroro Gunsou - will try watching. I never watch dubs, ever

Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji - hate nasty protagonists so was put off this one numerous times in the past

Thanks again! Given my updated information if you find you want to retract any of these recommendations, please do. Especially the part about a show that's primarily a romance that never actually succeeds.

Ouran is hilarious; the comedy, not the romance, is the draw. You should totally watch it. It has a fair bit of romance, actually, although nothing that's going to get settled in the space of the anime (it's a reverse harem to the hilt), but the point of it is the situational comedy, which is absolutely top-notch.

Shuffle!, on the other hand, made me want to go find the guy who made it and check whether he was human or in fact a robot, given that he clearly didn't understand human emotion.

I would try to offer recommendations, but I can't seem to get your ANN profile link to work... it seems like I can get other ANN profiles with similar links to work if they have their ANN handle where you have that "#844923" in your link, though.

I've updated the link in the top post with an actual username and it should work now. Thanks, I'll put shuffle low on the priority list then.

I have few recommend anime for you to watch:D

    1. Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro Na -Crescent Love-

    2. Fruits Basket

    3. Ouran High School host Club

    4. Love Hina

    5. Shuffle

Thanks, some are on my list already. Love Hina was the first romcom I ever watched and have seen it dozens of times so not new :P Fruits basket I got bored of I'm afraid, it was too old school and slow and I stalled on it. Maybe I should resume it.

Isn't Ouran a pretty boy series and not romance? I'm not sure. I'll investigate the rest thanks!

  12. I love romantic comedy. Or plain romance. Or plain comedy. Or action mecha demon magic intrigue political historical futuristic ecchi anything that has either romance or comedy in it. However it must have a happy ending. But I'm in a bind. I want to watch more old stuff but I've watched too much anime, and all that's left does a bad job at combining any of the above. I'm not much of a fan of really dark themes. So I'm looking for recommendations that will meet the above criteria that are good and above - by that I mean would rate a minimum of 7/10. I'm even open to the idea of restarting something I've dropped if it ended up being better than I originally anticipated. I'm not a fan of anime older than about 2000 unless they're exceptional.

My watched list is unfortunately incomplete but the size of it should give you an idea of what I have watched. Notably, a lot of dropped shows never made it on the list. So here it is:

    Thanks in advance. よろしくお願いします

I know, I just like reflecting on how terrible it is whenever someone brings it up. I'd rather watch Mars of Destruction 10 times than touch Mahou Sensou ever again.

Believe it or not though I have talked to one person who said the show was good. I usually try to understand people, but I'll never understand how anyone can enjoy this abomination.

There's no accounting for taste. Sure there are some things that just don't agree with some people, but I agree with you on this, almost everything conducted in it was done badly. Like I said, I have a soft spot for one of the VAs and that's about it. Note I had to revise when I realised it was actually bottom 5 not 10, and some of the stuff I hated more it was just stuff that pissed me off rather than it was badly made.

I have rated Mahou Sensou a 1/10. I consider it one of the worst anime ever made, because literally nothing in it makes sense, the characters are shit, the story is shit, the animation was bad and there wasn't even a "warfare" like the title boasted, and I watched it while it was airing, meaning I wasted a ton of time on it for nothing. You'll have to excuse me for thinking a show with absolutely nothing worthwhile is complete and utter garbage, and I honestly struggle to find much worse to this day.

Most shows manage to have something of redeeming quality, even if I end up not liking them, but Mahou Sensou managed to make everything bad.

I just checked my list of watched shows and of shows I've watched to the end I've rated it in the worst 5 of 300, so it's not like I'm saying it's good in any way...

Overall, IMO, while it's not as good as KyoAni's Kanon anime adaptation, I do think the Clannad anime adaptation is a pretty great show. Like @john 'mr. customer' smith said, it was quite literally life-changing for me (for better or worse...): I can say with extremely high confidence that I wouldn't be on Fuwa right now if I had never seen it. Admittedly that's really a confluence of factors, many outside of the show, including time, place, and experience, but the show being what it is was crucial; not much else would have sold me on anime and VNs the way Clannad: After Story did.

It's quite amazing how differently we viewed this show. I doubt our tastes are so vastly dissimilar that we came out with such different views. I suspect they more likely represent what state of mind we were in that time and place when we watched them and perhaps I'd have viewed it very differently if I was at a different stage of life. One thing we do agree on, Kanon2006 was much better - in my case infinitely better because I consider that one a masterpiece whereas I consider clannad hype laden yawnfest.

    24.
Another World: Tomoyo Chapter was the OVA episode I liked btw

    I looked it up.

The only person in the entire cast who doesn't bother me is the administrative assistant to Osman. RIP me, I just read the Wikipedia article trying to figure out her name and got the arc I'm currently on spoiled. Goddammit.

Edit: I am seriously so salty right now you would not believe it. Why did I do this?

ZnT is annoying because it's inconsistent. It has some great moments and... fortunately a happy ending which I can't live without, but it's obvious it changes partway due to the original author dying and the second half of the series created by the animators entirely. One thing that seemed obvious that should have happened in the story but didn't was, major spoiler...

    Spoiler

The power of combining elements with the void was obvious earlier on in the series. It seemed like the final boss should have needed all 4 elements combined with the void magician to beat but nothing like that ever happened.

That's a complete understatement from the people I've talked to. I believe it was @Nosebleed who hated it with a passion, along with some of my friends not on this site. Apparently it's on an abomination level of horribleness.

Nah I've seen much much worse though rarely do I make it to the end. My mistake was sitting through it all though, but that may have been for Naou Toyama as VA... I have a soft spot for any show that has one of the myriad of VAs that I like.
