I don't play games in general but I love looking at those retro backgrounds. Gives a huge 80s/90s vibe. Some kind of nostalgia for an era I've never known. The Arcades with its more expensive CPUs had a lot of hiqh quality pixel art. When not going to the arcade, I enjoyed playing old PC games by Origin. They always had these realistic pix drawings. Actually these are on the dorm room nameplates(at least in the first game), so I guess they indeed are canon.
