It's gonna be the 2016 visual novel of the year, or something That would be the biggest crisis to hit the community since key did what they did with angel beats! And the next time you say your a VN fan, the first reaction would be "oh, you played that pigeon dating-sim right? that's some gross stuff man!". Were will i ever hide my face... Don't worry, VN are gonna stay so underground for the next 10 years or so, if you tell anyone you're a fan of visual novels they won't even know what you're talking about. It's nothing new that the average "gamer" hates anything that doesn't involve heavy interaction and playability so that's not surprising. Because most people don't like to read. Just check the comments on Narcissu's Steam page for a good example. I saw someone downvote it because, and I quote "It's not a game" yet they still mentioned, and I quote "It was a good story" in their review. It's a shame but that's how it is. But then again when you show someone the phrase "dating sim with birds" most people wouldn't take it seriously. It's not exactly the best advertisement in my opinion. I believe the term dating sim is poorly used here, it's not a dating sim in the truest meaning of the word, it is a visual novel which I have heard plenty of good things about, story wise. When one uses the word dating sim it really just makes it sounds like some form of dating simulation with birds which is not what Hatoful Boyfriend is about but that's the image it gives off. I've been trying to create my own VNs so I speak from experience. The nasty comments against Narcissu hurt me in particular because that's one of my favorite all time stories ;_;. Thinking about it, this pigeon game and that one with insects--the effort to be different is a bit too blatant, if that makes sense.
