GreyWolfXx
Hey, I've been craving a good horror or mystery VN. I've already read: Kara no Shoujo Saya no Uta 999 Cartagra ~Affliction of the Soul~ Are there anymore good English translated VN's like these out there? Any good recommendations? Wonderfullyevil
If you've read 999, then you should read its sequel, 'Virtue's Last Reward'. The Infinity series are similar as well in the sci-fi + mystery aspect, but only Ever17 and Remember11. Umineko no Naku Koro ni and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni play with the mystery genre a lot, and most would claim the latter to be really scary. (The former, really gorey.) Other than those, I guess Dangan Ronpa would work, but I personally recommend them for simply being fun, not for the mysteries. Edit: Forgot Subarashiki Hibi ~Furenzoku Sonzai~. The patch is not yet out, but the partials available make me believe it's worth recommending.
GreyWolfXx
Oh thanks! I forgot all about Umineko and Higurashi. I'll try these out
XReaper
if you dont mind shorter ones, try phenomeno from nitro+
GreyWolfXx
Phenomeno looks good too. Nitro+ makes a lot of good ones. Ghosts? Hmm that's the one sort of horror thing that actually gives me the creeps
Silvz
Higurashi comes before Umineko
FinalChaos
I would recommend Chaos;Head. It's a perfect fit for horror and mystery. It does have sci-fi too. Plus you could continue the science adventure series and then read Steins;Gate after C;H.

AaronIsCrunchy
Yin by Mirrowdothack http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=25320 This one is actually pretty good, got some nice puzzle elements to it and I must admit is actually reasonably good at exuding tension at well. Haven't finished it yet but Episode 1 is certainly fun and intriguing enough.
Getsuya
Corpse Party is pretty good. The first game isn't really what you would call a 'visual novel' but I believe the sequel/spinoff game is.
