Drop it to Windows\Fonts folder.

I've gone through the .exe with a debugger and have found the problem. The problem isn't with Windows 8.1 per se - it is due to the number of fonts installed!
 
Due to shoddy programming, the Ever17 engine only looks at the first 100 TrueType fonts that it finds using the EnumFontFamilies() call. It checks the list to see if it contains a font that it knows about, but doesn't know when to stop checking! This causes it to eventually stumble into an illegal area of memory, causing it to crash.
 
One solution might be to start deleting fonts until the font that the engine wants (Courier New) comes up in the first 100 fonts found. Probably not a good idea.
 
I've also tried to skip the font check. This allows the game to run, but you get a weird font in the text. If you want to try this, use a hex editor (e.g. HxD) to open up the ever17PC_us.exe file and at offset 13337 hex, enter:

I don't have the time to look into this any further at the moment.

Correction - the offset should be 1382F (41382F is the loaded address)!

1. You should update to SP3, it contains many fixes and there is absolutely no reason not to update.
 
2. Chaoshead_reg.bat is used to insert the registry keys necessary to install the underwear patch and the key to install the patch can be found at the bottom of the fuwa chaos;head page. Plus you need the nss.npa because the patch fails to insert the underwear activation options to the game
 
3. Many people have had problems with codecs and this game so if you are using old version of CCCP, update it. Also try updating your graphics card drivers.

This is very important - many programs may not work if the system path is wrong.
The default is apparently something like

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem

Just a note:
You shouldn't replace everything in the PATH variable but instead you should use ; as a separator and add the new path after the already existing entries.

You can:

1. edit rewrite.reg and replace the _PATH_ in exe_dir and dat_dir with the path to your rewrite folder (use double \\) and then run that file.
Example: "exe_dir"="H:\\Completed\\Fuwanovel\\[Fuwanovel] Rewrite"

or

2. Try with this bat.

If nothing happens (no errors appear or anything) it is usually because the path in registry is wrong.
Double check that the path for dat_setup and exe_dir are correct. For example "H:\[Fuwanovel] Rewrite\Rewrite"

Rewrite-r4 is the english patch only, it wont run without rest of the game files.

In the config folder you find startup.xml file. Open this in notepad and look for lines:


<FOLDER> <save>%USERPROFILE%\%brand%\%title%</save> <!--<save>.\save</save>--> </FOLDER> And change it to: <FOLDER> <!--<save>%USERPROFILE%\%brand%\%title%</save>--> <save>.\save</save> </FOLDER>

This will ignore any funny characters you have in your account name and create save files into the game folder instead.

I'm using YousableTubeFix for Chrome (tampermonkey script) that adds download options to the youtube page among other things. (I'm using it mostly to disable autoplay)

Such MMOs don't exist. These days MMOs are designed so that people don't have to give rat's ass about other players. There is no need for interaction because everything is automated.

MMOs have big, open, nice looking worlds but the world is empty because everyone is idling in a city waiting for their automated dungeon finder tool to make a party for them. And when they get into the dungeon they have a group of random people some of them possibly from a different server and there is a very small possibility that you will ever meet again so why bother doing any bonding or talking.

The best way to get some interaction is to try to find a guild with active members that have some sense in their heads.

It seems that the game does a cd check and disables saving if cd is not found. I tried editing the check away so you can try with this Data.xp3 OR you can download a disk image and play with that mounted and you should be able to save.

Save folder or files are set to read-only. Uncheck the checkbox in folder/file properties.

The important part of the registry is :

But I doubt registry is the problem since you are able to run the game.

If you don't want to redownload it at least try forcing a recheck on the files with your torrent client to see if any files are corrupt.
