When Cantor came up with all the stuff explained in that Vsauce video, few people believed him and he was criticized for most of his life. It's not surprising that you would encounter difficulties with those notions, that wasn't an easy video. You're still in high-school aren't you? Stuff like that or the double-slit experiment usually requires an L1/L2 solid background to be understood. Although Vsauce is incredibly good at explaining stuff. Most of his videos are amazing. And if you want to get your mind blown again by maths, watch his Banach-Tarsky video.

Japanese Prime Minister: Doujinshi Are Safe Under The TPP
Down replied to Nosebleed's topic in General Discussion
Doujins or not doujins, copyright law has become utterly retarded and needs to be burned to the ground and redone entirely - if only to take into account the immense structural changes the internet brought to cultural habits, in terms of creation or experience. TPP is the furthering of a neo-liberal agenda to a downright terrifying point and none of those who create or experience cultural items have any interest in it. Only transnational companies, producers, editors and shareholders do. -
What language should I learn (NOT japanese or chinese!)?
Down replied to Scorp's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
If you want reasons to learn a language maybe you should provide what you think you would use a language for. Are you interested in visiting countries? Do you plan to read literature in its original language? If you learn spanish, there's a long tradition of spanish literature but also chilean or argentinian literature, for example. -
No, I was joking around. Most likely nothing will be cut, they'll only change or add stuff. Supposedly Tanaka Romeo is rewriting (heh) the scenario for the anime so he might do some non-trivial changes to the actual game too. I wouldn't put too much faith in the freedom an anime writer has to change things but well.
-
Pretty tempting... I never read Rewrite and it'd be neat to get everything in a full package with a "director's cut" of the game by Romeo. Maybe he will cut out Ryukishi and Tonokawa's routes. It wouldn't do to not have read Rewrite and not be able to feel superior to the pleb when the anime airs. Gotta be elitist.

80 books... And I thought I was bad with my habit of regularly buying three times more books than I have time to read...

Fuwanovel Needs Dank Fuel - 04/2016 [Probably a Clickbait]

I would. I have no idea what can be defended about machine translation. It's pure garbage and while I don't really care about telling other people how they should read x or y, I don't think there's any point in pretending we've read the same thing if one has read a machine TL and I've read the actual VN. I don't think that's "elitism".

?? Outside of the games sub-forum I haven't seen that much discussion about vidya games on the forums (aside from VNs ofc...). Besides, almost everyone and their moms (quite literally) play video games those days. I don't really play a lot either but it's not surprising to see it pop up here and there.

Yeah, and it seems like there are actually more Americans than we were led to believe at first. It's simply that they're "anonymous" by the definition that the investigating journalists gave themselves, i.e. they're not in a position of political power right now in america... Which doesn't mean they're not, say, a very close acquaintance of a politician, or someone who funded the primaries campaign of another, etc... Criticism of the consortia that organized the panama papers investigations are popping up here and there and I hope someone will release the raw documents now.
-
Here's a list of japanese companies that were involved in the Panama Papers. Among stuff that relates to otakus, Sunrise and Bandai. Also big well-known names like Softbank, Uniqlo, JAL, Honda... Also it seems like the lack of Americans in the Panama Papers is partly due to the fact that the US has its own corporate tax heaven with Delaware, which has more companies incorporated than actual inhabitants... I didn't know that.

There's an english version of the site: http://4th-cluster.com/en/ It seems like this is their only translated title so far, the other Campus Notes games and the rest are only available in japanese. Here's the page for the game (the site is a bit broken so it's hard to access it): http://4th-cluster.com/release/forget-me-not-steam-now-available-en/

Are there any English VNs with exceptional prose?
Down replied to Zodai's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Well, obviously and as has been said before, if what you want is to get a taste of the range of possibilities of the english language, you're better off reading Nabokov, Woolf or Shakespeare than even the best translated VNs like Grisaia or Dra+Koi. But the thing is, and that's pretty obvious, you don't write a visual novel like you write a novel. Not that visual novels have bad prose or w/e, it's just that for two media with two different ways of delivering text, the approach to writing has to be different. In particular if your VN is going to be in ADV format. Therefore it would actually be good for you to read visual novels in order to see what kind of writing techniques are used. The issue is that I'm not sure there are really a lot of good samples in EVNs. There is definitely a whole range of available interesting prose and techniques in japanese VNs, but you don't write in japanese like you write in english either so it's all kinda useless to you. So yeah, idk. Maybe the best thing you could do is to read theater. Theatrics is probably what's closest to ADV dialogs. Reading great english prose books certainly can't hurt anyway. But contrary to previous advices I wouldn't say to avoid VNs, because you need to understand the medium you're using too. -
Complaints about moderation goes here
Down replied to Down's topic in Community Coordination and Feedback
Implying I made this thread expecting constructive behavior I already stated my views on moderation anyway. -
C'mon, even with a 200 μm error that was still not too bad when you compare it to the kind of complex background you need to use a Michelson interferometer on an emission line of Krypton 86. Shall we mention instead Mars Climate Orbiter, which crashed because someone fed it imperial units instead of metric units?
-
I realized I couldn't simultaneously mock people who make the usual, boring, expected, pointlessly self-centered jokes, and laugh at the retarded imperial system units. I'm now in a state of deep choice anxiety.

Objective journalism doesn't exist. But you can bet that if the Süddeutsche was contacted first, there were germans involved in the leaks too. And there's hardly better for a newspaper than a scandal about the politicians of its country to make sells...
-
The newspaper originally contacted by the leaker was the Süddeutsche so you can bet germans will get served too, and not just that bank that was revealed already.

Governments have been pretending to fight against tax fraud and evasion and not actually doing anything for ages but with such an avalanche of evidence we can hope for some concrete action. I wonder if wikileaks will release the whole raw documents. Even criminals have a right to private life but people have already pointed out the disturbingly low amount of people from some countries - very few americans, and the most put-forward leaks are people like Putin, Saudi Arabian dudes, or western people that were already known to be huge fraudsters. Of course the investigation is far from over and covers only one of many offshore counsellor companies so it could be a coincidence, but who knows.

I mean, it's a great vid, but it went so viral when it came out I can hardly believe it didn't reach the forums lol In fact, I only shared it on TS when it came out, maybe I should've posted it here too.
-
Wasn't that posted here already? I saw that vid 5 times on twitter and on basically every forum everywhere during the few days after it came out... I can't believe it didn't reach fuwa sooner.

Turns out nobody played danganronpa You could've checked our vndb though? May we ask why this question?
-
Nope.
