I haven't really seen an anime who kept up with it's VN counterpart but some have been close like people said, an example is clannad and stein's gate. A reason can be that in the anime you're an outside observer and in the VN you take the role of the protagonist jumping in to the story and being part of it which is a feeling you can't really replace. VNs are also often much longer than animes so you can spend more time with your favorite character and you also get the choice to be with someone else if you want.

There is no stupid questions don't be afraid to ask. The brain is really an interesting subject and it's often a lot of interesting discussions about it.

For me soundtracks are essential in a VN, anime or games. It's like a amplifier for your feelings, making an already amazing scene more powerful. Music can really manipulate how you think about a scene, just try putting some sad music in a battle scene and then take some amazing upbeat track and the experience will totaly different. I've also noticed that when you played a VN you will like the soundtrack more than if you listen to it before which might be pretty logical as you will associate then soundtrack with the game. I'm always hunting for great soundtracks so I have quite a few favorites (and I noticed that key really know what they're doing): Rewrite - I would say that it's my favorite at the moment. It have everything, many amazing sad pieces, great upbeat fighting music that make your spirit goes up and make you jump up and down in your chair. Clannad - wow so many sad songs and they will all touch your heart either in a sad way or in a very happy way. That would be my top 3 favorites... but far from the only ones. Narcissu, sharin no kuni, kanon, katawa shoujo, planeterian also have some of my favorite tracks.

welcome to fuwanovel, I hope you will find good information and have fun I started playing VNs this year and I started with katawa shoujo and it's what got me hooked with VNs. I'm thinking about learning japanese too as there is a lot of amazing vns that isn't translated and won't be but it will be in the future like the summer when I have a break hen I will power through it because right now I don't have the time.

Playing Rewrite atm, just finished my first route and so far I like the game.

Makoto from school days... Damn it hurts just saying that. Well I might be a terrible person but I really like the protagonists who are a bit evil, I've never been the person who likes white knights(save everybody, I like everyone, can't make sacrifices when needed). So on my list it's: Azai Kyousuke from G-senjou as he can be really cold hearted when it's needed but at the same time he can be a good person. Sakisaka Fuminori from Saya no uta Nishijou Takumi from Chaos;head. His paranoia is what makes this character. Honorable mention (okabe from steins;gate, haven't played the VN but watched the anime so can't really say how much I like him in the VN) Edit: oh yeah, even though Shirou is all I'm against in fate/stay night I must say that after some time I actually liked him. (Spent around 90 hours with him )

As most said there is not much romance in the VN and it's more focused around the protagonist. Just keep in mind that the experience playing the VN might decrease if you already know what's gonna happen because you've seen the anime. Atleast for me it would. The game gives an amazing atmosphere because you don't know what the heck is going on and it makes you nearly as paranoid as the protagonist.

This is from Fate/hollow ataraxia so I will put spoiler tag to be on the safe side so if you don't want to see anything from fate/hollow then don't check. I swear if I was 80+ I would have died from heart failure saying HNNNNNNNNNNG. This is the best part of the VN for me and it was amazingly cute for me with the dialogue and everything, oh my god...

Yeah I feel that friendship can also be a very strong bond if it's done correct just like romance even though I think romance will probably always be my favorite. I would say that clannad, majikoi and little busters are games who really have done the "friendship" part great. But there are a lot of different bonds that I have felt strongly, some when I didn't really feel any "romance" feeling but still felt like they were really close. Would say it was some sort of blend between family, friend and romance. Strange thing anyways it's hard to explain.

I'm late to the party but welcome! I only watched the Air anime as I can't read japanese and it's great but a little to rushed because of only 12 episodes, I want animes to atleast be 25 episodes or it's too short. It's worth it to watch it anyways if you can't read the VN.

I don't think that romance is completly necessary if there is things to weight up for it like an amazing story but personaly I think I would feel a little sad if there was no romance at all. Funny thing as I though romance was boring before and now it's the best thing I know. >.< But personaly for me visual novels are created so it feels like you're connecting with the other characters and bond with them which make the whole feeling of the games amazing and if you remove the strongest bond (love) I think it would be less enjoyable for me but I don't know about the rest. To the random thought. I would hate it if someone else hooked up with my favorite girl on an VN and would probably keep me from playing other routes as I would be a little jealous to be honest so I wouldn't really like it. It's fiction so everything should be perfect and the girls are only there for you :)/> Steverowland I'm pretty much thinking the same, I've date some people but I don't really bother anymore. Ofcourse I won't say no if I find someone I truly like but I will leave that to chance as I'm very happy with the emotional stimulation I get from VNs and I would say that I'm a happier person after I started playing VNs. For this question... I would go for my little devil Ilya from fate stay night. I'm soooooooo sad that she doesn't have a route. My friends who have only watched the anime calls her a crazy bitch and don't like her. I say fuck them

Played through a lot of alchemist meister but started to get bored of the gameplay so I guess I will take a break from it O.o The story seems a bit weak too as it seems to focus more on the gameplay so it's not one I would put on my list but it's still play worthy for me.

Finished fate / stay night and it was great but there was one character I hated with all my might, she is now nominated to my most hated VN character. Started flyable heart because it looked interesting. So far so good.

I myself have never seen an anime that is better than the visual novel. Some people who watched the anime Tsukihime though it was terrible to the point that they denied it's existence but they still loved the visual novel so I would still try little busters as it's one of the best VNs out there. The worst thing that can happen is that you dislike it and stop reading

I feel the same... heard some knocking on my door and was just about to open it until I looked outside and saw a lot of people in halloween costume. I instantly turned my heels saying "nope" and continued watching my movie.

the storm is really scary and I hope that most people out there makes it through with as little damage as possible. I'm thankfull that we don't get such big storms here, our small country would be drowned if we had.

It's not such a big event here so most people don't do anything special. Me myself played fate / stay night and had the time of my life

Would be 1. dark knight rises 2. avengers can't really say more because I haven't watched any other new movies :3 Looking forward to the hobbits trilogy I guess. Oh and this thread reminds me to start watching K-ON soon... So much to do atleast I will be kept busy for a long long time and never get bored.

I guess I like the fate route because saber is by far my favorite heroine in the game and what I have read fate is her route and the other is on other characters. I did enjoy Tsukihime and I think it's hard to chose a route I like the most there but I guess it would be Kohakus route. A little sad that there isn't any route with Satsuki though. Clearing through UBW at the moment but it's a much slower pace now as I'm quite busy with other things right now.

I'm on a type-moon roll so playing fate / stay night right now and are about to hit the unlimited blade works route, I love Saber!
