  1. Finished the first chapter of Danganronpa 3 and I don't think I've ever felt so unsatisfied after a chapter in any of the previous games. A big part of it is unresponsive controls with keyboard and mouse (googling the issue yielded suggestions to try controller, but I don't have one. Maybe someone here had the same issues and managed to fix them?), but the story itself was full of holes. Maybe some of them will be filled later, but I wanted to talk about them now.
  2. He never dispelled it. It wasn't magically ok after Yuuji porked her, she carried that guilt till the end. Whether or not she was mistaken about wanting to be punished or if it the sex helped her any, the h-scenes showed a side of their relationship that wasn't conveyed otherwise and it wouldn't have the same impact if the sex was implied. I think it was definitely possible to show that side without h-scenes, so they weren't necessary, but removing them outright without replacing them with something else does change the story.
  3. While I agree on the overall point, I have to mention Grisaia no Kajitsu as an example for this exact thing here:
  4. I pretty much have free time only on weekends so I am normally avoiding big VNs (taking breaks in the middle is very unappealing to me). I make due with anime or short VNs with gameplay. However when I manage to get some time off, I binge VNs like a crazy person. Had two weeks on June - went through all Grisaias and Steins;Gate 0. Had 5 days off last week - read Tokyo Babel. Next is probably the week between Christmas and New Years, I am not sure what I'll read yet. SubaHibi looks great, but maybe I can squeeze in two. Maybe Danganronpa 3? I am looking forward to it already.
  5. Finished Tokyo Babel today. There were a lot of great things about the novel: Unique routes are great, though I felt Lilith's was way superior to other two. The concept of gaining power from your reason to live was interesting. Adam and Eve being a couple throughout all the routes. Usually in VNs all the girls are single and are there to be 'conquered', but Adam and Eve were solid. I especially liked Adam and his very simplistic reasoning. Samael was cute on one hand but cold-blooded on another Loved that contrast. The endings were okay for the most part, but The one thing I really disliked about the VN is that there was so much fighting when the results were obvious. You know that Setsuna will win in the end, but every battle drags out anyway. I'd have much preferred all that time being spent on random school life events and battles ending after a couple of sentences. P.S. Uriel was so annoying. Every time he appeared, he was screaming like a pig being murdered with just as much sense in his words.
  6. Watching Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin right now. It isn't the most pleasant anime I've ever watched to put it mildly, but it packs a hell of a punch.
  7. Just finished My Hero Academia S2, really liked the tournament arc. I am a big fan of them in general, but this one wasn't a generic shounen tournament arc where every fight is extended beyond reason. It had some long fights where the power levels were around equal and some really short ones where the difference was overwhelming. Seeing motivations from minor characters was also satisfying, but the biggest reason I liked it was because I couldn't really predict what would happen. The second half of it wasn't as good, but overall I am pleasantly surprised at how much fun I had with it. I still don't like Midoriya and Bakugo, but Shoto stood out for me. I barely remembered him from Season 1, but now he's my favorite character of the series. Also I feel like Shigaraki has a lot of potential as a villain.
  8. I meant Setsuna when I said I like the protagonist. For the Steins;Gate discussion, I have read the VN and watched the anime a couple of times and I must say I prefer the anime version. VN has some exclusive scenes that makes it worth reading anyway (you can't have too much Steins;Gate), but when I revisit it, it will be in the anime format. It is a great adaptation and I prefer seeing Okarin from 3rd person instead of 1st. Also the anime exclusive story (Deja-vu movie) is pretty good too. It is probably the only VN that I feel this way about.
  9. Started reading Tokyo Babel today. So far it's pretty good - the story isn't anything special so far, but I like the protagonist. Kajitsu >>> Meikyu >> Rakuen Agreed on this. If I had to be precise on the arrow placing it would be something like Kajitsu >> Meikyuu >>>> Rakuen for me. I am really looking forward to reading SubaHibi. I've seen a lot of positive words about it here and I can see it's already in 6th place in vndb rating which I've grown to trust a lot by now. So far the only one in the top page by rating that disappointed me was G-Senjou no Maou.
  10. I am playing a couple games when I find time, first of all people here have recommended me Fire Emblem, so I've been going through them one by one. Played 12,11,8,7,6 up to now and currently going through 8th again, on hard mode this time. The gameplay is really fun and I doubt I'll get bored soon, though my pace of playing has gone down considerably in the last few weeks. The stories are pretty much all the same and support conversations are way too rare to compensate for it. Also I am going through Divinity Original Sin II campaign with my brother, the battles are fun and being able to go through the campaing in co-op is great. It is one of the slowest games I know though. And we still bring out Heroes III once or twice a month when another brother joins us, been playing it since early 2000s and I am still not bored.
  11. I was aware of Sharin no Kuni, have been wanting to read it for a long time now, but a proper release is coming soon so I'll wait for that. For Tokyo Babel, it also was in my radar, but now I have a good reason to get to it, so I'll try it out, thanks.
  12. Okay, I'm sure there are quite a few badass characters in the ocean of untranslated VNs, but I can't swim yet, so let me rephrase that: name one in a translated Visual Novel. For now I'll put these two in my wishlist, because they do look quite good.
  13. 5. Tenmyouji (Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward). Liked his character: Family and loved ones first, never trust someone who has betrayed you. 4. Shirogane Takeru (Muv-Luv). Hated him so many times, but he's the protagonist I relate to most by far and his character development is unrivaled. 3. Hakuoro (Utawarerumono). A mature man that is always on top of things was really refreshing when most protagonists are bland teenagers. 2. Okabe Rintarou (Steins Gate). Who can dislike the mad scientist? He has the most character of all protagonists I've seen and his interactions with everyone else on the cast brought out different sides of him. Spoiler for S;G 0 1. Kazami Yuuji (Grisaia series). I dare you to name a protagonist more badass than him (seriously, please name one, I'd love to play another VN with a badass protagonist). His serious side also sometimes caused unintended hilarity where none should be found normally.
  14. Let me join in on the salty wagon. Just finished reading it. It's not like I disliked her, before the last arc she was one of the 3-4 girls that I rooted for and her being girl chosen makes a lot of sense: It's just the way it was handled was pretty bad in my opinion. P.S. The post below gave it away way before the ending. I immediately knew who it was with like 40 chapters remaining. I'll learn to know not to read the posts here before finishing things.
  15. I haven't played A Profile, but I definitely recommend Crescendo. Most of the routes are light hearted romance that, while too short for me, are pretty satisfying, but Yuka's (and one more route, don't want to spoil too much) is significantly darker which provides a nice contrast. You can go for a light hearted route after a heavy one to cheer up. About the route in question: Yuka was my least favorite heroine, but I still thought it was the best route of the game. It was interesting, it was memorable and the feeling when you reach a good ending after a heavy route like that is different than when it's all fun and games. Also it has the best 'bad' ending of the game. There was one thing that was handled quite poorly in my opinion, but saying anything more would go into spoilers. Don't know about you, but it was really unpleasant for me, because I can't handle such stuff that well, but I am still glad I read it.
  16. Finished the Godesses arc of Kaminomi. I didn't like the previous girls returning as much as I thought I would, but I am really looking forward to seeing Keima finally pick a girl for real instead of going for them because he is forced to. I don't have one favorite, but there quite a few I wouldn't mind "winning" this, though from the comments here I assume it will be someone else.
  17. I seem to agree with people here. Shingeki no Kyoujin, One Punch Man and Sword Art Online are overrated in my eyes, though there are good things about them (SnK Season 2 is my favorite of anything in these three anime). For my input: There are a quite few anime I didn't like that are really popular, but if I had to drop names - I thought Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service were really boring. On the other side I don't know any anime that is considered bad that I liked. Maybe because I don't know what is considered bad. Accorinding to MAL stats, my top 4 of biggest positive vote difference from the median are on Kara no Kyoukai movies 2-3 and both seasons of Higurashi, but neither of them are actually popularly disliked.
  18. Longer arcs and girls from previous arcs returning? Sold. I'll watch season 2 at least and then go from there. I don't want to skip any manga only arcs so I'll probably read them when I come to them in the anime. There is a good list of the arcs in the Kaminomi wikia so I should be able to jump between anime and manga. Thanks. Currently I took Inu x Boku SS for a quick rewatch, since it is a nice short anime with a satisfying ending and it's somewhat similar to Kamisama Hajimemashita. It's pretty much as I remember it, though both Ririchyo and Miketsukami are downgrades from Nanami/Tomoe in my eyes.
  19. Watched Kaminomi's season 1 today and I am rather torn about continuing. On one hand, I dislike the whole episodic "conquering" because it feels rather pointless without an ending. Instead the girl's memory is wiped and Keima moves on to another girl. It also doesn't give enough time for the girls to shine. On the other hand, Keima himself is interesting, there are a few curious things I feel it may yet explore and most of all: These make me really curious. So I'd like an opinion of the good people around here. Is the ending where Keima picks a girl in the anime or do I have to read the manga afterwards? If that's the case, at what chapter is the last anime episode? I don't mind reading manga, but with a massive backlog it might be a better idea to just stop here. Also, maybe the story takes a less episodic turn later on? I have no strong opinion on whether a disconnected ending is better than no ending, but it makes me sad that there will be no more Kamisama anime
  20. Thanks, I'll skip it. The beauty of the art and animation were a big part of why I liked KnK, so I'll watch the movies again the next time I feel like revisiting it.
  21. Yes I've seen it, it was an okay episode for me. The conclusion itself was satisfying, but I felt there were a lot of things that got skipped between E4 of Kako-hen and the final OVA.
  22. Rewatched Kamisama Hajimemashita recently up to Kako-hen and have to say I enjoyed it as much, if not more, than the first time I watched it. It has the usual archetypes for the main characters (cute and cheerful girl and the cool older guy who acts cold to the girl, but is actually really interested in the girl) but Nanami and Tomoe actually are really interesting in those roles. Then I watched Kako-hen for the first time and it kinda blew me away. There was a minor issue in the end since I felt that there was some explanations cut to fit the 4 episodes (which was proven right when I read the manga) but I was stuck to the screen for the entire two hours. It was the best thing I've seen in months (admittedly I wasn't watching much anime recently and when I was watching it was mostly long shonen (Fairy Tail/Inuyasha) that had average stories at best). Spent pretty much the entire day reading Kamisama manga today and I am really sad the last chapters are still not translated. I couldn't even find raw chapters to try my japanese on, but it looks like they have been out for a while. Agreed on that one, wasn't too excited going into an anime about space janitors, but it told a great story without leaning on overused anime cliches. I had no idea of what would happen next and it always felt fresh. Definitely a series I would recommend to anyone. Kara no Kyokai is probably my favorite anime of all time, definitely one of, so I am curious if the LN is worth the read. Is it available in english and is the story different enough (or more fleshed out) from the anime to warrant a read instead of just rewatching all the movies?
  23. Haven't read that many yet, but my top 3 so far this year would be: 3. Steins;Gate 0 - Liked Maho a lot and had fun reading it, because it is more Steins;Gate, but it was considerably weaker than the original. 2. Virtue's Last Reward - Read the Zero Escape trilogy very recently and the second game stood out most for me. It had a few great characters and a couple of cool plot twists. 1. Grisaia no Meikyuu - Read the trilogy a few months back. This one wasn't as good as GnK (it was a re-read this year, so it doesn't count), but far better than Rakuen. Yuuji's past was really interesting and it made me view him a bit differently as a character and I had a completely different impression on Asako from the little bits of information I had in GnK. Also the after stories were nice. Honorable mention to Crescendo which would probably be here if it wasn't so short.
  24. Going through my n-th shonen phase currently. Right now I am watching Inuyasha (watched Fairy Tail 2014 before that). While Inuyasha himself is quite boring as MC, the other main cast characters are okay and the supporting characters are great. I am still not sure whether I like or hate Kikyou, but she's interesting. Sesshoumaru's sidekick Jaken is hilarious and I find Sesshoumaru himself to be a much more interesting character than his brother at the moment. Few years ago I watched all that there was to watch of Monogatari. I keep thinking about watching all the new stuff that came out since, but I don't know where to start because I am not even sure which ones exactly I've seen already. Starting everything from scratch could be an option, but I've tried rewatching Bakemonogatari and was quite bored.
  25. Finished Zero Time Dilemma today, so I am done with the trilogy now. I disliked that they kept changing the art between the games. Not because it looked bad, I got used to it, but because the same character looked completely different in different games. Clover in 1-2, Akane and Jumpey in 1-3 and Sigma and Phi in 2-3. They felt like completely different people to me. About the third game itself - I liked the playing random fragments of story and trying to piece it together, it was an interesting experience. It's a shame the cast was split into teams the way it was, because I liked C and D teams a lot, but when it came to team Q I was forcing myself a bit. Mira was okay, but I didn't like Q and Eric, well, fuck Eric. Also it's a shame that this interesting story telling was used on the weakest story of the trilogy. They kept putting more and more sci-fi elements into it, but unlike in the first two games, there were no attempts to explain them and eventually I gave up trying to make it make sense. The characters of teams C and D were really interesting though, so I enjoyed it even if it made none of it. Specific things I found bullshit: I find it interesting that our opinions are almost completely different. For me best girl was Sachi, worst - Michiru (I just found her way too annoying). Best route - Amane's, even though both times I read GnK I thought it was a bit too long, so I agree with you there, but it was really memorable. Worst, probably Sakaki's or Makina's, they overlapped a bit too much for my liking. I completely agree on the ending choices. Sachi's and Michiru's were just awful. Other three girls' at least made sense.
