  1. I would pay $50 for a physical copy of Clannad but the $50 price tag for a digital copy doesn't sit with me as a good price unless it came with extras if you pre-ordered or something. I may have to sit this one out until the Steam winter sale even though Clannad comes out a day before my birthday.
  2. It seems you can't purchase VNDS from the app store. It's still listed but it appears that any payment method I try is declined (Google play credit, credit card or paypal). They work just fine or purchasing other items online.
  3. Final Fantasy Tactics - Despite it's poor Engrish translation and variety of exploitable bugs on the original PS1 release, it is still great. The sprites haved aged a bit but it's the story and gameplay that make this great. Sure, it's been updated and released as War of the Lions, but the original still holds a great part in my gaming memory. Another game that isn't your traditional JRPG but has still aged well is Earthbound.
  4. I'm a registered pharmacist in Texas and Florida. Ebola is spread through contact with bodily fluids or in very close quarters through a cough or sneeze, so should be able to keep yourself safe. There has not been a documented case of a virus in humans going from non-airborne to non-airborne, so while it is a possibility, has not happened yet. European members have it on their doorstep to in Spain and Germany.

  6. Throwing out my desire to get Divinity: Original Sin and getting this instead. I wonder if I can hope for a physical copy to be released by them.
  7. Theft and piracy are different charges, but they are crimes. There are laws in the United States concerning piracy and you can get arrested. Copyright infringement is a crime and does fall under criminal law with the defendant facing criminal and civil penalties. Just ask the RIAA or MPAA. There is a warning on each and every movie before the start of the content. The only thing is that the government rarely prosecutes these cases as it is hard to gather enough evidence to stand up to the burden of proof. There is a reason piracy cases are typically brought forth in civil court: the burden of proof is lower. Just because we rarely see people end up in jail because of piracy does not mean that the authorities can not arrest you on those charges and have a person eventually ending up behind bars.
  8. Which episode was this from? Seen all the eps so far, don't remember this.
  9. Alchemist PSP 5fd00000 SHIFT-JIS @ Cyrillej1 I just tried Fushigi Yuugi Genbukaiden Gaiden Kagami no Miko on PPSSPP v0.9.8 and it worked properly for me. Make sure you run PPSSPP first, then launch VNR. On SHIFT-JIS, Dialog Thread: BANDAI PSP -5a00000 On SHIFT-JIS, Chara Thread: BANDAI PSP f3005ed Did you change any of the emulation settings under PPSSPP? I found that if you uncheck 'Fast Memory (Unstable)', VNR has issues with finding threads.
  10. My reference is directed towards anime subtitles. The fan translation scene for anime is larger than manga and thus you're more likely to run into groups who produce high quality work. Manga scanlations have always been a minefield when it comes to quality and consistency as the task of translation bounces from group to group and some groups translate from Chinese raws. Buying anime direct from Japan carries a much heftier price tag than the U.S. release. The Sakurasou blu-rays from Japan have 3 episodes per disc and each disc runs about $85, while the U.S. is ~$60 for half the series. There is a difference in quality between the releases, but for most folks, it should not be discernable. But if you're buying the direct import, you should have more of a collector's mentality anyway, especially those massive price tags on the box sets (The only box set I will likely splurge on is the Miyazaki one if they ever put tthat together). Even with my income, I don't think I could digest spending $500-$600 for a 24-26 episode series that is only available in Japan.
  11. The saddest part is that many fansubbers produce a better product than some of the companies that purchase rights. Netflix: I was browsing the limited anime selection they had. Pretty much every anime they had was subpar video quality, no subtitles during the OP/ED (much less karaoke effects) and the subtitles within the actual episode was that atrocious yellow serif font with the black outlines (Took me back to the 1990's subtitles on VHS). Amazon: Same issue with the subtitles. There's also putrid video quality. I was taking a look at Clannad and High School of the Dead looked worse than playing some of my PS1 games on the PS3. Other series were actually completely out of order. Hulu: Larger selections but not that many newer titles Cruncyroll: Simulatenous broadcasts, some niche titles, but the library could be bigger. But I'm 27 and can afford the actual purchase. The only thing I may download are unlincensed works or episodes of shows currently airing. Else, I can push harder and faster to be better at Japanese.
  12. @ vocaotome I was actually playing around with v0.9.9 since that version came out fairly recently and Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai hooked fine on v0.9.8. However Shinsouban Alice and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun did not. However, I just rollbacked from v0.9.9 ---> 0.9.8 on PPSSPP and Shinsouban Alice is working fine now. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is now working as well.
  13. Been trying this for a bit on Windows 7 x64 using PPSSPP v0.9.8 x64, VNR and Shinsouban Heart no Kuni no Alice: Wonderful Wonder World. VNR can't even attach to the emulator, much less find the threads. Up to now, I've mainly been using ITH and TA for playing VNs on the PC. My first time with VNR but I have it working fine with the VNs I have installed on my PC. *** Update *** Just installed VC 2013 x64 and VNR attaches with PPSSPP v0.9.8 x86. Do NOT use the x64 .exe of PPSSPP. It seems for two of the games that Sakimichi listed as compatible (Norn 9, Shinsouban Heart no Kuni no Alice: Wonderful Wonder World), VNR can't find a text thread. I didn't have an interest in any of the confirmed titles, just want to get my hands of them since they were confirmed to be compatible and "working perfectly". May just be a ISO that doesn't work. I did get Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai to work fine though.
  14. I admittedly have a bias towards enjoying slice of life anime (Watching Rail Wars, Jinsei, Barakamon and Glasslip) and while nothing groundbreaking, P.A. Works typically does a decent job with the series they do, but Glasslip just is not doing for me. Smells like a drop for me this season.
  15. If anyone here remembers the days of gotlurk and evil-empire, the task of downloading manga was so mundane. I grew up in a time where manga on the internet was just more accessible. Most people, if they were on internet were on dial-up. There was no online readers for manga and there was not yet internet streaming of anime. The download size of manga versus anime was much much more manageable and it was so damn easy with those two irc channels.
  16. I would imagine for most anime and manga fans, consumption of the former outweighs the latter. My balance of total spent watching anime versus reading manga/light novels is comparable. In high school, I spent more time watching anime than manga because I had the free time to sit down and enjoy the time required for anime. In college, when I was more restricted with my time, I preferred manga to anime because I had to spend less time with consumption of the material. I could stomp through a manga like Suzuka in half an afternoon. Now, it's a balance of both. I watch a few episodes of anime a week, follow a few manga releases each week and then wait for more volumes of light novels. Overall, I actually enjoy manga more. It's easier to follow on the go, it doesn't have the same time requirements for me and for many the imagination requirement of the reader just adds a lot to me.
  17. Way too many things. In addition to waiting for more translations for 10 light novel series, I'm reading the following manga. Genshiken Gin No Saji Naruto Nisekoi Otoyomegatari Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Yasashii Sekai no Tsukurikata Yotsubato!
  18. Nope. This type of show is the ones I almost always like. Action, Shonen, Romance works for me. Action-packed, sci-fi and mecha shows used to be my thing, but I really enjoy the slower paced or slice of life types now. Almost waching Barakamon, Glasslip and Jinsei this summer.
  19. Just my reasons and thoughts The official title is Rail Wars! Nihon Kokuyuu Tetsudou Kouantai which translate to Rail Wars! Japanese National Railways Security Force The light novel is currently at 8 volumes, however as far as I've heard, the series will be 12 episodes. Because of the short length and title, I expect the series to remain in the security portion I also think the show will have a high school-like slice of life interaction between the characters and the typical romance hints between Aoi, Naoto and Haruka. Throw in some action and light fanservice. Glasslip - None of the characters are that appealing to me. Thus far, the drama feels a little forced. And I need to see how the supernatural aspect will fall into this.
  20. The idea is to have Western Digital WD Black 4TB x 4 Samsung 840 Series ____ GB x 1 I prefer the performance of the blacks and they do have a longer warranty compared to the others in the Western Digital Line-up.The current price for the WD Blacks is $230 apiece ($920) and depending on the size of the SSD I get and the employee discounts I can wrangle, the price is around that mark. In addition to anime (5 TB), there's music, movies, television and live tv recording I would like to have. $1200 is a chunk of change for just storage, but it fits within my budget as a pharmacist.
  21. This slow paced was expected by me. I only expect this season to cover Volumes 5, 6 & 7 and a portion of 8. Three and a half volumes spread over 24 episodes unless they already expect a third season and they would go ahead and start the "Alicization" arc. The typical pacing for a light novel to anime should be 4-5 novels covered in a 24-26 episode period; expecting 3.5 volumes for this. The first season of SAO covered Volumes 1-4 and a portion of Volume 8.
  22. My anime collection is spread out on external and internal hard drives. Seagate Backup Plus 3TB Desktop HDD x 2 Toshiba Canvio Connect 2TB Portable Hard Drive x 1 And then I have 1 TB on each of two desktops + 320GB on my laptop. Got both Seagate desktop HDD for $80 each while the portable one cost me $60. My TV pretty much plays most anime off the portable hard drive fine, including the subtitles. I'm hoping to having get several WD Blacks for the HTPC and a nice Samsung SSD or two for the OS/programs, might be looking at just $1200 for storage, but hoping for some deals to slice it to $1000...
  23. I watched a fair amount of series back in the days of standard definition and real low quality fan-subs (13 episodes fit on a single audio CD) so I didn't keep the downloads. I'm at about 5 terabytes of stored anime on external hard drives. I should be building a HTPC with about 16 terabytes of storage where the Skylake architecture comes out.
  24. How is it? I had my eye on this but still on the fence. I love the turn based combat in titles such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Valkyria Chronicles and even JRPGs. I however don't like Bioware's combat system that is actually real-time with pause (Yes, I'm one of those RPG souls who never got into Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights or Dragon Age).
  25. Even in terms of source material, this arc from the light novel is better than the ones covered in the first season of Sword Art Online. I hope they also cover Volume 7 because that was the best in the light novel series. The current arc, Alicization, is really bad in my opinion and I think due to that, it will halt any desires for a 3rd season of SAO. My real criticisms of SAO as a whole is the lack of character depth. The characters are a little too flat and I think the author could have spent much more time creating more characters and developing the characters when they were trapped in SAO. I heard the hype about SAO when I started the light novels and I was kinda stunned that the premise of being trapped in a virtual world where death is real only was two volumes.
