    It has been a fantastic time, but now I'm signing out
     
    I'm no active user here, but I've got to know lots of friends here.
    With fuwanovel I went from just reading VNs to actually have people to discuss them with.
     
    I won't personally miss the torrent downloads, but it's a principal hit.
    Before I used to stand up for the fuwanovel cause "to spread VNs to the West", fan-translated, licensed, it didn't matter and I still believe in those words.
     
    Now I don't really know what fuwanovel want.
     
    As I see it now, it will become another .net (networking) site. It will probably remain a healthy and vibrant forum with a focus on VNs and a bunch of other more or less related things.
     
    Just stating my disappointment (not directed towards anyone in specific).
    You can't always get everything you want.

    Getting A New Pc

    If building your own pc is the choice then my advice is to put the extra money on what's harder to extend later.

     

    That is not a huge ssd disks or massive amounts of ram etc. Buy those things when the need comes around, it will be cheaper and better by then.

     

    Invest in a good base, a good motherboard, processor and graphics card.

     

    For measuring processors as said before clock frequency is far from everything, later models can often perform more on fewer cycles I can link to instruction benchmarks but those are gibberish for laymen. Don't buy the previous version just cause you get better specs for less money.

     

    Intel has a biased compiler that is quite used by the industry that generates more efficient software on their processors, which gives them an overhand in benchmarks and software even though the processors are equally good.

    I want to recommend a book for getting the vocabulary.

    The title is: Breaking into Japanese Literature

    If I had to redo the learning, it would probably had been easier if I knew of it, I started reading VNs ofc this isn't a bad choice, but it was tough in the beginning with new words and kanji making progress really slow, it really took motivation to keep going.

     

    This title, saves you looking up words on dictionaries and guessing at what they mean if you don't get it since they have an English literal translation of every text + vocabulary at the side.

     

    You go from reading short stories to longer and after finishing you'll have acquired the basic vocabulary that is needed for enjoying reading Japanese.

    Seems when you use EDICT as preferred dictionary and preferred Japanese furigana characters to Romaji you get Nihon-shiki style romanization.

     

    I just checked it, I don't think you're able to change that  :(. I use to Hiragana, and I think most people using VNR to get a kanji-free experience not just one of the online machine-translations can read hiragana since you need to know a great deal of vocabulary. However that's not an excuse why VNR shouldn't allow you to change the Romanization method.

    About the VNR... when I use furigana set to romanji it translates wrongly? for examply my Chotto = tyoto  my  は(wa becomes ha) and ga becomes ka   か.  any ideas on how to fix this?

     

    Hmm, perhaps it uses another romanization. Hepburn system is not the only valid one, this sounds like a case of Nihon-shiki an older one still in use.

     

    It's more regular that is たちつてと becomes ta ti tu te to and there are no collisions like in Hepburn. じ becomes zi and ぢ di. This on the cost of less degree of "it's pronounced as it's written".

     

    So this is not a bug, I'll investigate how to change romanization-method in VNR

    I just want to pronounce VNR doesn't just have the ability to flush bad English machine translation from google translate over your eroges.

     

    It can be used for fan translation, even though I had to turn those off since they were hideous in quality where they existed.

    And it's a good tool for when you reach that state of Japanese proficiency you can bother reading vns. That is when the words you need to look up are few enough to not lose context.
