  1. I believe a translation is another work than the original, and in most cases they don't even fight over the same market.

I think a licensed translator should not have the right to block out other translations that have been made available under public domain. Even if the maker is the same. On one hand it would seem kind to remove it for the translator, but on the other hand that would make the old free licence void.

I'm not 100% sure, but I personally don't have any problems with Fuwanovel retaining torrents to the old patched game. The question is not if the new commercial translation should be hosted or not, it's a question if the translators still own the right to change the rules of use to the new owners, afterwards.

I don't think so. For comparison, if you release a book and that book is in a library, can you really demand them to stop distributing it?

  2. Hi and welcome!

For Macs, many VNs won't work, or won't work perfectly under wine. You can get Japanese locale by setting LANG and download a Japanese font to get Japanese text to work. However the simplest solution is to run a Windows machine in a virtual machine.

For reallive engine VNs (KEY before Rewrite and some more) there's rlvm.

    Enjoy your stay.

  3. ...Why does everyone always ignore Utawarerumono? It is the absolute best of the Leaf games, and I'm sure at least some of you know that Leaf doesn't fuck around... although their characters are all little whores.

You're really saying Utawarerumono is the best out of leaf's VNs  :o How many more of them have you read? Tears to Tiara?

They have written To Heart 1, 2 + White Album 1 and 2.

And if you like more weird niche ones Shizuku, Kizuato and Tenshi no inai 12-gatsu.

  4. I'm sure it's possible and perhaps even not that uncommon. Ever heard about platonic love?

I have one or two friends of the opposite sex I share hobbies/interests with whom I can have hour-long conversations with, meet-up in the city and have fun for a day and so on. There's no sexual attraction there, but I wouldn't call it a best-friends relationship.

On the other hand it's not that uncommon for either one of the friends to aspire something more.

  5.  The average woman becomes infertile by the age of 35.

Bullshit. The success rate for childbirth starts dropping considerably at age 35. I'm not an expert on the topic but I'd say average women becomes infertile at 45 or something. Infertility ≠ failure rate.

  6. People should indeed have the choice what to do with their lives; people must stop expecting people to become parents. I think virtual and non-virtual partners aren't excluding each other, perhaps because I think of the first as some kind of idolisation and the second as a companionship. Idolisations have existed long before these decades.

I don't think cloning will "solve the problem" since it doesn't remove the 99% of the responsibilities of parents, that is bringing the new generation up. I guess people who doesn't choose the family path does it because of the lack of interest to dedicate roughly twenty years altruistically to the next generation.

I might be pessimistic but I don't think cloning in the nearest 50 years will be able to transfer the memory and experiences. First it will be able to just create a genetical clone, that is the replica will be like a monozygotic sibling.

  7. Everything new has been the "thing that destroys the next generations", from the radio to the telephone, to the TV and to the computer.

I won't deny they have serious demographic and economic problems in Japan but like stated before, the young generation becomes the scapegoat. Which hinders an deeper and more sound analysis of the problem and is probably even counterproductive.

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers. - Attributed to Socrates by Plato

  8. Happy birthday cryo and everybody !

    Thanks!

Happy Birthday cryo, sorry I was late, and happy birthday GetterEmperor!

Thanks, you're not late, my watch says 8:06 pm June 19 (because I'm currently on vacation and using Pacific time).

  9. There's some guy on youtube reading out and commenting some short yandere themed VNs in Japanese, but it's really not that hard. I was thinking for those here who are able to enjoy anime without subs but perhaps have difficulty reading the VNs, because I think I'd understand it back before I started reading VNs in Japanese.

    Here's one I read:

The website to download the games is here and there are several more like this:
