The very beginning of the story is pretty uncomfortable IMO

Yeah, I read a few chapters at the start. I think the last chapter I read was from the maid's perspective, where she said how uncomfortable she was around the MC, while no one but her realized that there was something wrong with him. And yeah, that was pretty disturbing.

First, Mushoku Tensei pretty much lived up to the hype.

I bought the first volume of LN for this a few years ago, but I'm yet to read it. Honestly, I'm afraid that this protagonist will be too much for me, but I also think from what people were saying about the story that it might make up for his flaws.

  3. My initial reaction to this season's lineup was that it's mostly just sequels to the shows that I either didn't watch at all or, with Konosuba, still need to catch up with. Though, as it is going, there seems to be a few fun anime.

    The Legendary Hero is Dead

Judging from the short clip from it I've seen on Youtube, it seems like the type of comedy that makes me angry with its stupidity. Maybe I'm wrong, of course.

I love hearing about such unexpected game ideas. Once I developed a quest - a game about a builder from [redacted] who fixes the roof and talks to a lonely woman.

    Whoa, spammers are getting clever.

You really question the validity of such a list and the tastes of Japanese people when 5 nukiges are on the list, and Tsui no Stella is not.

It's there, you know. Look at #6.

First place got what? Hentai Prison?!?

Well, it was a weak year...

Honestly, I thought the same thing. I don't know, maybe some of these VNs are actually better than they seem from the descriptions, but so far the only VN from this list I find myself interested in is Tsui no Stella, and only because it's Key.

As for suggestions, I only put Trianthology

Well, after I voted for Iwaihime so many times and it turned out to be complete dog shit, I'm a bit worried about voting for this one as well.

As for me, I don't really care about these surveys anymore, so I just voted for a few random VNs from my wishlist.

The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki - Northern War - adaptation of a famous JRPG game. Game adaptation are often shit though, so I'll ignore it.

As far as I understand, it's not really an adaptation, but more like a side story. There's still a good chance that it will be trash, of course.

Tsundere Akuyaku Reijou Liselotte to Jikkyou no Endou-kun to Kaisetsu no Kobayashi-san - boring LN about villainess and some random high schoolers being able to talk to them from the fourth dimension.

Yep. I tried reading J-novel pre-pubs for this one, but dropped it after a few parts. I thought it was only me who found it boring.

At first glance, this upcoming season is filled with continuations of the series that I haven't watched and dumb-looking isekais. I almost lost hope for this season, but further down the list there are actually quite a few series that may turn out quite good. And it is also quite crazy that this upcoming season will have not one but three (!) gender-benders, including the gold that is Oniichan wa Oshimai. :sip: Though from time to time this gold seems suspiciously pee-colored.

The reincarnated master of blade anime, on the other hand, may turn out to be pretty dumb. I liked the LN, and it had a pretty interesting world and good fight scenes, but nothing more than that.

The one series I am excited the most about is The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady. From the little I've seen from the LN, it seemed extremely good, with likable characters who had quite a lot of room for development, and it's definitely a good choice for the third villainess anime. It's also yuri where the MC is extremely open about liking girls. 😇 I'll probably try reading the novels first though, so if I get to this anime this season, it will most likely be by the end of it.

Other than that... There's Trails anime, which I won't watch since I'm still at Sky the 3rd. Sugar Apple Fairy Tale seems interesting, and I believe the original light novel is quite well-regarded, but untranslated. There's also another anime based on the novel by the author of Average Abilities. I don't know if I watch this one. I haven't read the novel, and I had some extremely mixed opinions about this author. Average Abilities adaptation was also kind of trash, so...

But what's the point of referencing French revolutionary history if it's just going to be another slice-of-life school setting...?  Where's the chaos, cult of personality, grandiose dreams of empire, bold military maneuvers and conquest?

Look, they've made another famous person into a waifu! It's so cool!

Seriously though, from what I can see at first glance, it looks like such trash... I hope to be wrong, but I doubt it. Well, I never liked moeges to begin with.

  10. Finished Ascendance of a Bookworm, season 3. Overall, it's still the same anime. I can't talk from the anime-only perspective, since I've read the source material, but I think the anime is pretty decent. It's probably the best they could do with the source material using its limited budget. This season in particular feels a bit short, but it covers only two volumes of the light novel, and there are not that many things happening there, though the events that do happen are pretty great.

Still, I'd heavily recommend reading the LN over watching the anime. There are two main reasons for that. First of all, the anime skips some stuff. It's not anything major, and it's understandable why they do it since the slow pacing of a book wouldn't work here. Still, one of the things I love about this story is its attention to detail, which makes the fantasy world where it takes place feel so real. The anime manages to capture this aspect well enough, but the LN is still much better in this regard. Secondly, there's simply no way the anime is ever going to give us the complete story. The LN it is based on is truly massive with more than 30 volumes, and these three seasons of anime covered only the first 7. Honestly, I'm not expecting another season of anime at all, which is a shame, since some people consider these parts to be an extended prologue, and the latest season ended on a rather depressing note.

Talking about this story in general, it's pretty amazing. The world-building is insane, and the characters are pretty good as well. The MC actually has to adapt to the fantasy world, since her values clash with the values of its inhabitants so much. And not in the edgy Shield Hero type of way. She actually stays true to herself, though becomes slightly more flexible. Overall, it's my favorite isekai and is the perfect example that, if done right, this genre has a lot more potential than the popular opinion suggests. I recall, in the past, when I just started the book, I said that this is a story that avoids the usual isekai cliches, but going further in the story it becomes pretty obvious that I was actually wrong. As it turns out even by the end of the part that the anime covered, it actually has a lot of common tropes, but they are included in a rather creative way that makes them not feel out of place here.

Overall, if we are talking about the LN, i'd give it a strong 9/10, or maybe even higher, depending on how it ends. As for the anime, I'm pretty torn about what rating to give it. I guess I'll settle on 8/10.

    PS. Also, this.
