  1. I've decided I'm going to read either Ayakashibito or Cho Dengeki Stryker it will come down to a coin toss on which one I read. I've read the first Dengeki Stryker game does anyone know exactly what is new or where Cho diverges or am I gonna have to re-read the entire thing?
  2. True, I love winning against the odds. The next person will have a pun in their response.
  3. Excellent I might actually begin trying to learn Japanese now...took it in college and failed but that was due to lack of intent and laziness might actually be worth attempting to learn now. Now to just find my college books. Thanks for this Ren.
  4. If you lean on either of those my recommendation is going to be a short two episode 40 minutes each ova called Denpa teki na kanojo simply since the majority of people have never heard of it. I have not yet started watching True Tears but I will begin probably later this week. It seems like people have had mixed opinions on it; good it is a necessity for discussion to have disagreeing parties. To the people who disliked True Tears don't worry everyone will get a chance to sit through something they dislike eventually...not everyone has the same tastes after all. I did however just watch the second episode of Death Parade
  5. If anyone ever begins a talking about the ocean or other bodies of water you'll sea that I can go very in depth with my puns.
  6. Confession: I have not yet read Katawa Shoujo.
  7. "So the game is now out and my god it's actually -" *sounds of indistinguishable arguing can be heard* "You can't make me, sod o-" *you hear glass shatter* "NO Fu--" *thud* We apologize for the interruption. I, Kyrt do full-heartily recommend this game to visual novel fans. It is much better than Sakura Spirit and for only 8 dollars is completely worth the price. Check out Sakura Angels for a visual novel experience you will be sure to remember.
  8. I will be joining again in the case that was not evident from previous post. Gonna do anything specific for February?
  9. Well what is the intrinsic detail of a visual novel. The visuals and the novel (writing). Personally I believe the novel portion is paramount to a enjoyable visual novel. The art style can be utter crap but an absolutely brilliant piece of writing can turn even the most lackluster of set pieces into an amazing experience. The music portion of a visual novel great enhances the enjoyment as often it can help emphasize importance, help set the moods of the characters, and simply help the reader understand how the story develops. In filming music is a must because the audience will often get bored if it lacks a soundtrack, ambient track, etc.. It is possible of course as you can still read it. If you take away the story part though and just have the music and cg scenes I don't think it would properly work unless you had a lot of cg scenes. It is quite possible to create anime without words and that's what I feel a visual novel would end up turning into if you remove the writing portion. It would no longer be a visual novel. Basically without the visual and novel aspects whatever you have is no longer a visual novel proper. The objective of a visual novel is to share a story regardless of good or bad. Now if the objective is no longer to share a story but is rather more pornographic in intent then I suppose you could easily have a visual novel-ish type of thing for that purpose...if you have text in the image that could potentially also work but then you'd just have something akin to a comic. @Ame : How long have you been reading visual novels? I recommend you check out the soundtrack thread to listen to some of the better music and osts in visual novels. Honestly there are visual novels out there that truly can be an experience to read through beyond just a twist or sad ending. However to get truly in depth with this issue I ask a counter question? What do you consider to be an experience? It has to have good writing but can't surprise the reader or make them feel emotional? How then do you have a good experience with characters that are unlikable and a story that's more than predictable?
  10. The first series/season is still on my plan to watch list. I'll get around to it eventually.
  11. I have already voted as well...I really wish more people would have shown an interest in white album 2 (one it's easier to find than true tears) and 2 because it's a very under-appreciated and often unwatched show based on a visual novel. The fact it has a 2 probably throws people off with them thinking they have to watch 1 which is completely unnecessary. Oh well... - It looks like 2-3 more people need to vote for the normal and it looks like 2 additional people voted for the seasonal than who was listed in the first post as participating. Seems like Death Parade won for the seasonal.
  12. Death Parade: I prefer the ova but this wasn't a bad episode. I definitely think they can get it to ova quality in a few episodes. I rather like the psychology behind this one as well as the mind game the show plays with the viewer. Even with the episode over and an idea that we think we know what happened I can't help but think perhaps we don't have the full story. Then we have the elevators the discussion at the very end and that absolutely brilliant OP. The anime gives me a very bartender-y feeling and that is never a bad thing. I'm definitely going to be following this. Junketsu no Maria: This one rather surprised me. There is not nearly enough to go on about the type of show it will be although fanservice-y seems likely. I rather enjoyed watching this for reasons I'm not quite sure of. I think I'm just fond of the setting and the animation and am curious what type of show it's going to end up becoming. I'll give it a few more episodes but I'm probably going to follow it regardless of my 3 episode rule. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu: So apparently this is one of the most hyped up shows this season and I gotta say it's pretty meh. The art design seems to be from the person who did danganronpa (or very similar to it) and while not horrible it's just meh. The plot is resoundingly stupid even for a shounen anime. I originally thought this was supposed to be a comedy but the lack of humor obviously brought an end to that mistake. Kuro Sensei is honestly one of the only characters I like that I've managed to meet so far which is actually pretty decent considering he's supposed to be one of the main characters and that's probably only because he seems to be a decent teacher. I'll give it another 2 episodes but currently I find it unlikely that I will be continuing it. It's not bad it's just meh. Magic Kaito: I'm loving this series and I have no reason why. I really like how blatantly cheesy it is and honestly just think it's a fun show. I'm even rather fond of the music and the characters in general. I've gotten fully caught up so I'm gonna be sticking with this one for the winter season as well. Durarara x2: I feel as if nothing nothing has changed. As someone invested in the light novel though I know that is completely untrue and there's a lot of stuff in store for this season if certain things get adapted. Despite releasing how many years ago it's managed to stay the same. It has sharper animation quality but it just looks and feels like durarara and since I enjoyed the first season I'm probably going to enjoy this one as well. I don't even have to wait I'm sticking with this one. Aldnoah Zero Season 2: I knew it would be bad. I had slight hope that at least one thing would be good but then they showed the ending. I feel as if it would have been a better series had they just kept it at one season (with that ending). As it is I've lost all hope for this series possibly becoming decent at all. It all felt like a major cop out and as such I might just not watch it. I have one final thing to say; Shirou was wrong, people don't die when they are killed. Log Horizon Season 2: Holy hell how much did they just skip. I take it they've decided to adapt the 9 vol. and basically skip a bunch of the other events. I am quite disappointed by this even if this episode was quite enjoyable (comparatively to the first half of the season). Now mind you as an MMO player I actually quite enjoyed a lot of the first half of the season but this first part of the 2nd half basically was better than most of them in terms of fun. I'll continue it to the end regardless. Shirobako: I started watching this for last season but since it's still continuing I'm going to count it as winter anime. I actually really love this series. It's not for most people and most people probably will find it quite boring but this is one of the best slice-of-life-ish anime I have seen in a long while. I am so glad it's an anime about adults in a slice of life setting. I'm out of my school years and simply can't relate as well as I used to to school based anime so this was a nice refresher. I totally understand what a few of the characters are going through and I thought a lot of this was probably just joking around but I wouldn't be surprised if half of what this anime has in it is realistic to the animation studios in Japan. Honestly really enjoying this series and hope we see more like these in the future (adult characters in a slice of life setting). Going to be definitely continuing this. Yurikuma Arashi: It's very yuri and kuma. I initially was not too favorable in the beginning of the episode (although that OP ha ha) but as the episode went on it became less boring and began to become a lot more interesting. Admittedly I still have no idea what the hell is going on but then this is to be expected of the creator of Penguindrum and Utena. Symbolism Explosion! I'll give it a few more episodes but I'm probably gonna continue it regardless if I initially dislike it. It has potential if nothing else. Rolling Girls: Huh. Not sure what to say about this aside from it reminded me of kill la kill and Zvesda. It seems to be about gangs of people fighting for territory and items or something. Honestly the first episode didn't give me nearly enough information to figure out what the plot actually is going to be. The action scenes were decently fun and the characters seemed interesting. I'll give it at least 3 episodes. Absolute Duo: It is yet another cliche light/novel/manga adaptation complete with school. I don't see anything unique going on here and I highly doubt I'll be continuing this but I do have a 3 episode rule to follow. Let's see if the next two episodes can change my mind. Saekano: Definitely the title for me that I was not expecting to have any interest whatsoever in. Surprised that I was wrong in this case. The pandering at the beginning is probably what did it. I rather liked the parodying that went on throughout the anime and the characters all seemed quite cliche but likable. I'll have to wait and see how the actual series is but I rather enjoyed episode 0. All things considered I highly doubt that I will not watch this anime to the end.
  13. I would suggest The Secret World for a completely different type of mmo experience. It has no classes, no levels, an epic story, puzzles that might require research, conspiracies, lovecraft, monsters, demons, and the supernatural all in a modernized setting. It's also subscription free and while not the best graphically (and the AI sometimes sucks...plus people either hate or love the stealth missions) but it's a really fun and unique type of mmo that I'm gonna go ahead and recommend. People either love it or hate. The other thing I would suggest is Final Fantasy 14: Realm Reborn (which is basically a completely different game from the original 14...and that is a good thing). If you've already played it though guess that's that. I think Knights of the Old Republic is still going on if you wanted to play it for story content...? Guild Wars 2 people raved about when it went subscription free and it's supposedly pretty good so there's that. Phantasy Star 2 is another one people rave about but few people who don't read Japanese have actually played it. Black Desert is an MMO releasing apparently in 2016 that looks pretty damn good...but uh probably useless at the moment considering it's not out for another year and 3-4 months. Rift: Is consistently entertaining from what people tell me. I own the game but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Hope that helps?
  14. There is plenty of content for the 13 dollars I spent on it. Also Sutherland for the most part is ok but there are some lines that sound very lazy and then others that just make think Hayter could have pulled it off better. I'm fine with him playing snake in the movie as well. I still haven't beaten the main mission about 3 hours in made it a goal to throw as many people into the choppers as I can (not sure if that does anything or not but whatever...I'm rather enjoying just messing around so far. I'll get around to the actual plot related content eventually. Lots of different ways to do things in it. It also runs wonderfully on my rather mid-graded PC. The Fox Engine definitely is amazing so far. I'm doing what I usually do in metal gear games just trying trying multiple different ways to do things and really just get used to the controls on PC as I rarely play any type of shooter.
  15. Decided to take a break from the other stuff I was playing and started playing Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes been playing it for about an hour just wandering around seeing what the game has to offer. Not overly fond of the new voice for Snake but I'm assuming they did this because they plan to have Keifer Sutherland play Snake in the upcoming hollywood film (that's supposedly in pre-production).
  16. Always nice to fit a personality to a name; thanks for the fuwacast Ren. I've actually been on a radio station in college where we talked about nerd stuff so I've done something similar to a podcast in the past and would be happy to do something in the future.
  17. welcome to the forums! Might I suggest Hollow Ataraxia or Tsukihime (if you liked fate/stay night). Also have your obligatory random image;

  20. hello and welcome to the forums please enjoy your stay and have a random image for your enjoyment.
  21. Sounds good sign me up for the next one and any to follow. Do have a few questions I'm going to put towards you; what are the requirements for the club? Any specific visual novels or types of visual novels excluded? Do the visual novels have to be fan translations or can they be licensed titles? If a game has a fan disc do we include the fan disc in our reading? For the potential prize how about a quiz on the visual novel we just read...most questions right wins (or if more than one all the ones with the most questions answered correctly gets a number and then gets it drawn). Only people that participated in the discussion will be sent a pm of the quiz or something to reward people for participating and it can be used as a way to encourage people interested in a prize to re-read the visual novel. I have a few ideas if you want any help with brainstorming and the like.
  22. For the Discussion on Durarara I already mentioned quite a few things about it previously but oh well here we go. Rather enjoyed it flaws and all, Overall Score: 7(-ish) out of 10
  23. I own systems for PSP, Gameboy Advance to Nintendo 3DS, Playstation 3 (original 60 GB can play PS1 and PS2 games) and used to own a 360/sega genesis/N64/SNES. I have in time however come to the realization that the PC is the best platform and thus only PC game outside of my backlog. I'm a huge rpg game player and some of the best have consistently been released on the Playstation consoles. Slowly though they are coming to PC and this more or less means that I no longer need the other games. The thing with PCs is that eventually all games on current/previous consoles will eventually be able to be played on a PC and it's just a matter of time/exclusivity/etc... before this happens and people decide to create remasters or try re-releasing games on PC to reach a larger audience. I have no interest in the new consoles and have a backlog of older content and PC games that will keep me busy for a long time to come. Hell I'm beginning to even wonder if console gaming or even regular gaming itself is worth it what with the shoddy practices many of the companies are doing with HD remakes, remasters, unfinished products, patches not progress, DLC (pay 4 times the cost of the game for all the DLC), pre-order bonuses being in game content, rushed products by major companies, bugs, etc...
  24. I believe Kaguya left for the holidays if anyone is wondering why a new vn or poll hasn't been sent out. So what was everyone's favorite piece of the ost/bgm? I would probably consider Garden and Bagpiper to be mine.
