OH! And yeah, better animations ;) Play Styles: Kinetic or with Choices Main Route: Over 94k words Kickstarter Available here: Click here The second novel in the Crime Opera series, The Floodgate Effect is a visual novel continuing the story about a mafia family known as the Gallos. The story is told through the eyes of the young men and women of the Gallo family, who range from the ages of 11-24, as they begin to enter into a life of crime. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WARNING: If you have yet to read the first novel in the series, Crime Opera: The Butterfly Effect, it is highly recommended you do so before reading the following spoilers! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The story begins 9 years after The first Crime Opera tale. Xander Gallo is now bitter, alone, and out of control. He is causing problems for not only other families within the crime syndicate, but for the younger Gallo members as well. Crime Opera is a tale of loyalty and deceit, murder and survival, and both the strength and frailty of familial bonds. This particular novel serves as the second part of a much longer saga, following the Gallos from childhood to old age as they are pitted against the outside forces of the mafia world, and eventually, each other as well. As with the previous novel, this installment is divided into 24 chapters, but the main route has over 30k MORE words than the first game. This series is pretty much an excuse to put those writing skills to use in a semi-professional way. I’ve been writing Crime Opera over the last 7 and a half years as a response to the anti-hero fad that’s been so popular as of late, in an attempt to fix what has bothered me about it for so long. I currently work at a College, and in my spare time I am either writing these novels, reading, playing video games, or playing guitar." Jaytee Sketch – Character Artist - "A freelance artist with an Economics Degree and an MBA. I have been doing art all of my life, as it’s something I love and enjoy doing as a hobby (which eventually became a job). Now I take it very seriously, doing game assets for indie game studios (like TopHatStudios) which includes backgrounds and sprites for Visual Novels as well as other commission jobs (such as small animations, portraits, and art assets). When I read Sean's trilogy I loved it and thought it deserved to be brought to life as a commercial venture. I feel happy when I can inspire others through my art, and with this project I think I'll manage to do that and more." https://twitter.com/jtSketch http://jtsketch.tumblr.com/ Solo Acapello – Musician - "Musician with a Master's degree in Music Composition. I've been writing music for a long time and have always wanted to use my skills to help tell a story. This is the perfect chance for that. While I have had pieces performed by the Toledo Symphony and String Quartet, among others, I am looking forward to creating music for games and am currently doing so full time." https://soundcloud.com/solo-acapello Giao Nguyen - Background Artist - "Hi, My name's Giao, and I'm an artist from Vietnam. I worked as a background artist for an anime studio for 8 years (BIHOU Studio/ Japan), and now I have become a concept/illustration artist for a game company (VNG/VietNam). I always want to challenge myself with freelance jobs as well." https://www.artstation.com/giaonp ADDITIONAL: Brandon Caskanette - Just happens to be besties with the lead writer. Brandon is a graphic designer who created the title poster, logos, and kickstarter images for the project. Trey Fletcher (Valhalla) - GUI - Has completed not just the GUI for The Butterfly Effect, but has also finished GUIs for the first two sequels as well! https://www.deviantart.com/wingedvalhalla WhiteCharisma - Trailer/Opening Video - The opening/preview video at the very top of our campaign was completed by WhiteCharisma, and we couldn't be happier with the result. https://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=40065 ExGravitus - Video Music Theme - My band, a Symphonic Metal project, contributed a track (the one you hear in the video)! https://soundcloud.com/exgravitus The entire first trilogy is completely written. I don't want to be paid for the writing, nor do I aim to recoup on the thousands of dollars I've already poured into resource creation over the past year. I do, however, need your help is securing the funds needed for the last remaining pieces. Backgrounds $3000 USD Music = $1000 USD Marketing and Promotion + KS Fees = $1000 USD
  2. Hi everyone! After 3 and a half years, a failed kickstarter campaign, and a recent steam ban (https://kotaku.com/visual-novel-sets-out-to-buck-trends-by-being-less-sexu-1840002895) we are finally launching the first entry of our ambitious Crime Opera series! See our itch.io page here: https://crimeoperastudios.itch.io/crime-opera-the-butterfly-effect Please know that all funds will go directly towards helping us create the sequel (which has already been completely written). It's bigger, longer, more intense, and takes place a full nine years later as our main cast reaches early adulthood! Please do not let the steam ban scare you away, as we are still pegging this at 14+.
  3. Hey LemiusK, Thanks so much for the support! I need to be completely forthright and honest, however, that at the pace we're accumulating funds, it is looking less and less likely that voice acting will happen this time around. I have been thinking, however, that if the series were to gain traction with the release of the sequels (which, by the way, are even better than this first entry), I could do a crowdfunding campaign to get them all funded for voice acting with some additional material added in, all in one package. It may be a while off, however, and I'm not throwing in the towel on this campaign until the moment it's over (again though, that won't stop us from releasing it). As for your Umineko comment, funny enough, it was Higurashi that inspired me to create this series. I loved the fleshed out histories of the town and the people, and so the story for this first trilogy was born of that reading experience. Higurashi and Umineko will always be faves of mine, they were just such amazing experiences. While Crime Opera evolved into a very different type of story, I do believe fans of Ryukishi like yourself will be able to catch glimpses throughout of his work's influence on me, despite our writing styles differing so much.
  4. Thank you! Whether the campaign is successful or not, we will definitely release it. The kickstarter will help us to release it quicker, and with a few more bells and whistles.
  5. Hello everyone! We have recently launched our Kickstarter campaign for the first entry in our Crime Opera series! Kickstarter Page Here We would love for you all to check us out!
  6. Hi there, I've been lurking here for a while now and thought I'd finally join up. I'm wanting to promote my OELVN series that I've been writing for a little over 2 years now, Mafiosi 1, 2, and 3. There are 6 planned titles in the series, with the first 2 being finished now. Unfortunately, I'm no pro when it comes to art, so like many other Renpy made games, the resources are taken from other places. I do believe the writing is fairly unique though, and the stories are something I'm pretty sure no one has really encountered in a visual novel before. They are crime thrillers, aimed specifically at readers who aren't so crazy about the romance types you see all over lemmasoft forums. They're decently lengthy too, which also sets them apart. Mafiosi http://rpgmaker.net/games/4996/ -Over 61,000 words -Story told through the eyes of the Gallo family children. Mafiosi 2 http://rpgmaker.net/games/6030/ -Over 90,000 words -Story told from most of the same characters, but as teenagers. Mafiosi 3 http://rpgmaker.net/games/7457/ -Being written now. I really hope I'm not breaking any rules here. I'd just like to promote these a little because I know how frustrating it can be to find lengthy, non-romance OELVNs out there and I think these will somewhat help to fill the void. Lastly, these are FREE downloads.
  7. I'm the same way as OP, the romance types just don't really do it for me. My absolute faves are Higurashi and Umineko, also loved Chaos;Head (I'll be reading Steins;Gate pretty soon). If you're not opposed to OELVNs, I've been writing the Mafiosi series for a couple years now. They're decently lengthy, (I think) pretty well written, but they use a lot of free resources since I'm no graphics/music pro. Two complete novels are entirely finished and ready to be downloaded (free), and I'm starting on the third novel now, which is the story I've wanted to tell from the very beginning.
