  1. I've read some of my favorite books more than once, same for replaying RPGs, mostly from nostalgia I suppose, so I guess I can see myself re-reading some of my favorite visual novels a few years from now. I know I told myself I would re-read Clannad someday. It felt reeeally long, but damn it was worth it. I don't see myself re-reading it anytime soon because of the lenght, but I'm sure I'll feel like reading it again someday. (Maybe when my japanese gets good enough to be able to read my Memorial Edition!) I replayed Seasons of Sakura, True Love and Runaway City a couple of times back in the days, but that was mostly because I had nothing else like it available. Usualy I won't feel I completed a VN until I cleared all routes, but more character based ones I don't mind just finishing a few routes and leaving more for later.
  2. Whenever I finish something that was really good or really touched me on a personal level, be it a visual novel, a book, a movie or whatever, I try to take some time to think about it. I tend to think about what it meant, why it affected me so much, why was it so good or simply how I feel about the ending and the game as a whole. Whether or not I feel sad, it depends on the VN. Pretty much all those that left an effect on me have felt sad, but I've had some comedies and action anime/movies which simply left me excited and full of energy after the end. Also, Key is a real tearjerker for me.

  4. Yeah, I think that's the longest I've ever waited for something from Japan. With EMS it usualy takes around a week or a little more, but this time I thought I'd try registered SAL to save a few bucks. (from Amiami) I was starting to get a little anxious since the tracking hadn't been updated in a long time.
  5. I finaly received my copy of Little Busters! Perfect Edition, after nearly a month of waiting. Dat artbook :
  6. I keep getting this error whenever I try to start Anki : I tried messing around with my clock/time settings, but I haven't found anything that fixed the problem. Maybe I need to adjust my clock in the the BIOS at startup? Hmmm...
  7. This guy is amazing, he just made my day haha : Check out his other vids, I particularly like the Chrono Trigger one.
  8. The one with the bird made me lol. Also, people can't tolerate sex in video games, yet 50 Shades of Grey gets a movie, go figure. (Yeah I know it's unbelievably popular with women.)
  9. I admit that most of the time I use a walkthrough. That way I feel I can focus more on enjoying the story and end up reading more VNs in less time, as well as being sure to get everything. I have printed "spoiler free" walkthroughs for most of the VNs I own or have DLed. I usualy go out of my way to read bad ends as well. I try to do all of the routes, but I usualy end up being distracted by other games or VNs, though I see it as leaving more for later. I find that walkthroughs are a real boon for this, it really helps when picking up a game that I haven't played in a long time but don't want to start over. The first time I played Katawa Shoujo I did completely blind thiough. I set myself a goal to finish the route for the girl I found most attractive, thus ending up going after Hanako and succeeding as well! (I have yet to read the Manly Picnic even though I hear it's quite worth it.) After that I read Shizune's route, but I think I used the guide for some choices on which I wasn't sure. I have yet to finish other routes, but I have started Lily's route a few weeks ago.
  10. I got some friends interested after talking to them about Umineko, surprisingly. I knew a guy on another forum who constantly raved about it before I got back into visual novels, so it might've influenced me as well.
  11. I received the book much earlier than expected, it only took 2 or 3 days with super saver shipping. fastest shipping I've ever had. o_O I've already finished reading the introduction, so I'll try to set up Anki tomorrow. Setting a schedule where I study at the same time everyday might be difficult since I have an unstable work schedule, but I'll try to be as stable as possible. I actualy had a lot of fun studying hiragana and katakana with Slime Forest, so hopefully this will help motivate me for this.

  13. Some people's arguments here and on Siliconera(open thread) are starting to make me reconsider my position, so... I guess I'll try the demo. Though looking at the specs on Moenovel's website I'm not sure my junky old PC can run it hah.
  14. I most likely woudn't buy a game that was originaly 18+ but converted to all ages for localisation, unless the removed content was very minimal. Even then I'm a bit on the fence as I strongly dislike cut-content and censorship. Though in the case of supporting a new company I might not mind that much if the amount of removed content is not ridiculous. (or if someone were to announce a patch to put the content back in) That said, I also don't buy games where sex is the main focus(nukige) and tend to dislike games that have too much rape. I do enjoy the occasional sex scene when it fits, such as most of those you get as rewards in dating sims, but it's not a priority when choosing which game to buy.
  15. Unfortunately a lot of people in the west seem to dismiss anything that looks anime as porn even when it isn't. Unless they actualy do a very good job at marketing(which I somehow doubt) most people will dismiss it as an eroge even with the removal of said ero content.
  16. I use it all the time. I wasn't too keen on it at first, but now I usualy take the time to set up the auto-reading speed whenever I start a new VN. I like just starting auto, sitting back and relaxing as if watching an anime. I try to set a speed that's fast enough without putting pressure on me. When I get tired and can't read as fast, or when I wan't to get through a certain part faster, that's usualy when I start clicking.
  17. I probably would've bought it if it was originaly an all-ages title, as I usualy prefer VNs with low sexual content(though I can actualy tolerate a lot of it), but cutting the ero, especialy from this type of VN, sounds just plain stupid. No way am I paying for a butchered game.
  18. I finaly caught up with this show. Wow, it really lives up to the hype! I just watched all 5 episodes in a row and was hooked all the way. <3 Mikasa.
  19. I usualy explain it as interactive novels with sound and pictures you read on your computer. Sometimes I also make the comparison with "choose your own adventure" novels.
  20. Hi! I recently ordered the 6th edition book from amazon, which should arrive sometime next week. I kinda have a history trying to learn japanese.(my native language is french btw) I first got interested back in high school, when I mostly trained by trying to translate text from emulated games as I was going.(I got pretty far in a One Piece GBC rpg which used only kana.) Back then I only used a small french/japanese pocket book mostly made for travel, and a pirated version of NJStar. I stopped when I got in college and tried to shy away from my geeky past as I integrated a new group of friends. I started again sometime last year, first learning hiragana and katakana using Slime Forest and then trying to practice with Kodansha's Kanji Learner's Dictionary and Furigana Japanese-English Dictionary while playing some import PSP/DS/GBA games I own. I got a pretty good grasp on both hiragana and katakana, and I learned a few kanji as well, but at some point got distracted and haven't trained much since. I still barely underrstand anything of spoken japanese though, mostly what comes back often such as various salutations, "shouganai" and swearing. I'm hoping to get back into it shortly after receiving the book. It shouldn't be too hard making a little time for it, after realising how much time I waste on the internet everyday. I'm not sure yet if I'll make a blog, but I'll think about it.
  21. Mine is probably one of the old JAST releases, most likely True Love or Season of Sakura, which I both quite enjoyed at the time. I also played Thousand Arms on PS1, but it's mostly RPG with some dating sim parts. I wasn't really into VNs for a few years after that, viewing them mostly as porn games, but I did try few over that time, such as Sengoku Rance which had gameplay elements that appealed to me.(a bit too rapey for my tastes though) I rediscovered the joy of VNs through Corpse Party, though I had been looking for a decent dating sim from time to time, with little success. It was only with Katawa Shoujo and afterwards Clannad that I really got back into VNs and haven't stopped since then.
  22. I've always thought of Kanon as the second cutest. (after Haru of course) I can see how her attitude can be annoying, but I don't really mind, I find her rather amusing.
  23. I agree about Rewrite, I was also really impressed with the resolution and overall quality when I first played. I've actualy been thinking about making a topic like this ever since I tried the demo for Grisaia no Kajitsu, which has really impressed me with both its art style and "graphics". In fact I'd say Grisaia is the one I've found most impressive so far. Personally I'd rate art quality and presentation(interface, resolution, etc) as two different entities that can both affect your enjoyment in different ways.(I still enjoyed some pretty ugly looking VNs and play lots of old video games, so don't mistake me for a graphics whore lol.) I also keep hearing how Muv-Luv Alternative is one of the most visualy impressive ones available in english, but I haven't played it so I don't really know.
  24. Lately I've been mostly listening to piano/guitar/violin covers on youtube. Right now I'm watching/listening to Joe Hisaishi in Budokan though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVCdLi6FGVg
