1. Mutsuki was sunk on August 25, 1942, during the Battle of the Eastern Solomons.

2. Mutsuki was 337 feet long.

3. Mutsuki was going to take part in an operation during the Battle of the Coral Sea, but the operation was cancelled.

Hopefully those facts are interesting enough.

  • History of weapon development, U-Boat plan armed with seabased missiles.
  • first test by using the Army grenade launcher "30 cm Wk Spr 42" . Reached distance between about 3.000 meters ~ 4.800 meters. The trials with the brothers on board “U-511” were a great success.
  • This launch meant being one of the first, if not the first, missile worldwide fired from under water. The trials are well documented and even movie pictures have been taken.

I think is interesting.....

this history make me curiosity about submarine.......

  • The ship was named after Mount Haruna (榛名山).
  • Haruna was originally a battlecruiser until she underwent a reconstruction and rebuilt as a battleship (I might be wrong about this).
  • Haruna was sunk by aircraft of Task Force 38 after taking nine bomb hits at her moorings on 28 July 1945.

How interesting is this?

It seems Mutsuki didn't last long in the war. :( Did you know that her name is an archaic word for January, specifically the first month of Japan's old lunar calendar?

Interestingly enough, U-511 and Ro-500 are the same ship! The Germans gave U-511 to the Japanese partway through the war, where they renamed her Ro-500. She survived the war and was captured by the Allies, where she was finally scuttled for good.

She was also the Emperor of Japan's special transport ship! They did this in 1928 before the war.

  • She and her sister ship, Yamato, were the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed.
  • Musashi was Sunk during the Battle of Leyte Gulf on October 24, 1944
  • The exact tally of hits is not precisely known; most Japanese sources claim 11 torpedo and 10 bomb hits, Garzke & Dulin claim 20 torpedo and 17 bomb hits, and analysis by the US Naval Technical Mission to Japan acknowledges 10 torpedo and 16 bomb hits.

  • Yahagi could reach a maximum speed of 35 knots with 100,000shp.
  • She sank escorting the Yamato during the Operation Ten-Go, with a torpedo crippling the ship by destroying the engine.
  • Despite having seen a few battles, Yahagi was never damaged once, until The Operation.

Not going to count it as a fact as those who know Japanese already know this, but Akatsuki means Dawn.

  • The Akatsuki was part of a destroyer class called the Akatsuki Destroyers, which comprised of 4 ships, the Akatsuki, the Hibiki, the Ikazuchi, and the Inazuma. This class of ship was a subclass of the former Fubuki Destroyer Class, and were heavier, stronger, and overall slightly more technologically advanced.
  • During its time of service, the Akatsuki was considered the most powerful destroyer in the world (aww yeaah, you go, Akatsuki :sachi:)
  • The Akatsuki was first launched May 7th, 1932, and served for 10 years before being sunk in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on November 13th 1942 at about ~1:50AM, and was one of the first casualties in that naval battle, being overwhelmed by US ships as it shined a spotlight mid battle to find the enemy, not even getting a chance to fire a single torpedo. (so much for using that power :amane:), only 18 of the 197 of her crewmen survived, all were captured by the US\

I can't find much mention of it, but the Akatsuki had to tow a fucked up Hibiki once after a battle :makina:

  1. The ship is named after Mount Kongou, located between Nara and Osaka prefectures, and literally means "Indestructible" or "Diamond".
  2. Kongou was the last Japanese capital ship constructed outside Japan, designed by British naval engineer George Thurston of Vickers Shipbuilding Company where she was laid down.
  3. Kongou was torpedoed and sunk by the submarine USS Sealion while transiting the Formosa Strait on 21 November 1944. She was the only Japanese battleship sunk by submarine in the Second World War, and the last battleship sunk by submarine in history.

1. Akigumo was the last Kagerou Class Destroyer to be made.

2. Akigumo, along with Makigumo, sunk the USS Hornet during the early hours of October 27, 1942, just after the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.

3. Akigumo sunk after being torpedoed by USS Redfin (SS-272) 30 miles SE of the Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines.

A lot of ships sunk here.

I'm just lurking around with a KanColle pic without even realizing you did something like this. Enjoy. Mine is Hamakaze.

1. It was the first destroyer of the Japanese Navy to be equipped with radar after the installation of a Type 22 set.

2. Part of the Kagero-class destroyers. 389 feets long and 2400 ton heavy fully armed.

3. Hamakaze was sent along the super battleship Yamato on the suicide mission Operation Ten-Go during the American campaign for Okinawa.

I'm going to change my avatar with the correct rank when I arrive home later tonight.

Edit: Here's my seaman

Attention Crew!

As your proud Kancolle Fleet Admiral, I am pleased to announce the success of a very well done mission! Congratulations to all of you who ranked up; the opening post has been edited to reflect these changes. In addition, all of you have received an award to commemorate this occasion. If you got a PM regarding a rank change, please feel free to edit your avatar to your respective insignia (located again in the opening post of this thread). Awesome job!

In addition, it is with great disappointment that I must announce the sinking of a fellow crew mate. A brave soul, Emi (Shimakaze) was lost at sea the other day during a fierce battle in the fan translation forums. Her "kawaii-ness" seemed to attract too much enemy torpedo fire, and as a result, she found a grave in the deep blue. Let us take a moment to remember her by announcing your next task.

In honor of Shimakaze, I would like you to make a tribute photograph that commemorates her service in the Kancolle fleet. Please use Photoshop or another program to do this. A loving memory will do just fine, but a heartfelt message is just as touching.

Please Note: This task will close on Friday, March 13th @ 11:59pm JST. For completing this task, you will receive the following rank reward:

Good luck, and godspeed Shimakaze!

Image manipulation is always so difficult ...

I've made an image in memory of Shimakaze (sounds real weird coming from me), but having no idea, it's pretty blank and empty, so if people have ideas of a text we could put in or have an image that could merge well in, I'm taker.

But first of all Rank up image, I took some liberties in the placement of the rank, tell me if it's not visible enough.

And the blank memory one :
