I did not. I'm glad you agree flowery writing is not bad in Japanese. In this case the writing style is simple. And we've agreed flowery writing is not bad. Therefore the author chose to write in simple style, he was not forced to by aesthetic value. It's not your place to make it flowery upon translation. You stated "constitute as 'good writing' for both languages", which I assume you imply that by flowering it up you wanted to keep a piece of good writing good. I apologize if that is not the case. You misunderstood me. We can not understand what the author intent as the correct interpretation. This is true. I do not believe the author intented for a violent, crazy girl. But you do. Both are possible and both are fine. The problem is forcing our own interpretation on the reader, when the author does not. The author used language that left the extent of this trait open for interpretation (and perhaps later elaboration and contradiction). Therefore as translators we should also use language that leaves it open as well. If the author use vague language, we should not be building a clear scenary. And let's be clear here. The language is vague. "Willow" is generic haunted location. "Hatred" is generic motivation. And the only clearly stated action is "standing" or like "appearing", which is itself very vague. There's no graphic imagery used here.

In other words it's the 10th aniversary version. Oh it's not happy ending. It's ambigious.

A bit harder to translate: *slurp slurp* (Or whatever licking/sucking sound is) ...the taste's pretty good too, sour and salty. It's an interesting taste. Not everyone would like this wild taste. But if it's from someone you love, you can't get enough of it.

Translation is not an issue since I haven't read a translated VN in 10 years or so. I filter out things like character and situation before starting, so those don't cause me to drop. Those cause me to never start. I usually drop when 1) It's trying to tug my heartstrings but fails. Miserably. 2) Goes into cliche cut-paste territory I've seen 100x before. I should note here that I could give one route quite high marks, and drop the game due to the next one. Or fast forward through the thing if that counts as dropping. I've always liked single-route vns better anyway.

I doubt the idea will be adopted. Japan has an extremely high literacy rate, it doesn't need to make the language easier for its citizens to learn (unlike China when PRC adopted the simplified script). Heck if it wasn't for MacArthur forcing it we wouldn't have 2 kana, just 1. Kanji is incredibly useful to approximate both the pronunciation and the meaning of an unfamiliar word. It's like knowing German, Latin, and Greek while maining in English. It's really useful.

Chinese and Koreans have unfair advantages. I am from Taiwan so that's me. It really depends on level of understanding. I started when I was 16. I was reading visual novels in Japanese (with an electronic dictionary) after 6 months with 80% understanding. I was on Clannad at 8 months to 1 year total. I don't know if I really improved after that. At least for the purpose of reading VNs. Officially cleared JLPT1 at 2.5 years iirc (the pre-switch version tho). But most of it is vocabs and formal stuff, neither of which I probably remember much. I do like being able to watch Taiga-Drama Jidaigeki and being able to pick out subtitle mistakes though.

It looks more like official dating sim, or really just detailed dating sim (not the western fan-made stuff) rather than visual novel.

Hey, don't hate on others for wanting nuki. It's his preference. Personally I wish some little doujin game gems would get translated. No one ever looks at those. (Well I'm helping translating one)
