  1. I hope I don't miss any sarcasm... Steam != DRM. It's up to the developers if they want to use third party DRM, CEG or Steamworks; don't condemn Steam for the use of such technologies just because many (AAA) publisher want them. It's also not really censorship as Steam will mix titles 'not compatible' to your gamer taste in the news feed so you can discover other genres. I think people will see VNs in their news feed at some point, at least they will definitely if they use the Discovery Queue. I got some Bus Simulator recommended and that's definitely not something I have ever triggered to be on that list nor will ever play. All in all small indie gems or games with a higher user-review ratio will get more spotlight on the Steam store. And as VNs have a small but loyal fanbase, they usually have also higher user-review ratios. I think that MoaCube wrote some interesting thoughts about the new Steam update (link).
  2. I wouldn't want to replay FF VII without that ugly graphics, I really grow fond of all the knob polygons. Screw FF VII remake, we don't need one! It should be ranked like the Top 100 before the discovery update. I would guess a sort algorithm like "which game sold the most in the last x hours".
  3. I don't know if it was possible before the discovery update, but you can now see which VN sells the best on Steam (link). As the majority of VNs are also tagged as Anime or Story Rich, you also can compare a few of them to a (bit) larger pool of games. For example, I don't know how I should feel that Hatoful sells better than FF VII.
  4. Now I have a hard time finding my way around the Steam store... I don't know if I welcome the features that look like facebook or twitter but there are a lot of more filter and search options for games, if they would work correctly. I cant say if it's good for VNs but a personalized store front can also filter every trace of existence of the VN genre out of your news feed. I just hope that games with good stories trigger a recommendation towards VNs so that people can come in conatct with VNs without having to click per chance on such a game.
  5. Yes, it does. I think Fate accomplishes its function in F/SN as introductory chapter fairly good, regarding the whole F/SN universe (which isn't that small).
  6. I use AppLocale, vanilla. The HF version didn't work for me and rebooting my PC to change the system locale back and forth isn't much fun. I restart my PC often enough because of dual boot, don't want to reboot 'just' for annoying Windows things on top of that. AL works just fine. You also can create shortcuts which launch a certain application with AL, so it's convenient.
  7. Mangagamer offered first the voiceless version and later replaced it by a version with voices. If you want, you can still purchase the voice patch from Mangagamer.
  8. I unlocked the Last Episode two days ago and go now for 100% completion of the Tiger Dojos, so you only need to get all 5 endings. I used the latest patch, don't know whether the Fuwa version is the same. I think you will like the Last Episode but as already said, it's hard to describe it without spoiling. I would reccommend you to finish UBW first, then decide if you want more F/SN or not. You will want more F/SN. HF is worthwhile. Yes, it is darker but HF felt somehow like the 'true route' and had less pacing issues IIRC. It just felt mature in contrast to the other two routes. You also get tons of new information about the F/SN universe, especially concerning the Holy Grail.
  9. Just read the Last Episode yesterday and I have to say, I really liked F/SN. It has a lot of flaws but I can mostly overlook them - except Shirou, he really is annoying in at least the half of the entire VN. Damn, I don't want to know how often I yelled at my monitor in Fate route. After accepting his 'stupidity' as plot device he was at least bearable... Fate wasn't that action packed and mostly linear but the overall atmosphere and Saber were really enjoyable. And that ending, I'm a sucker for these. UBW, what should I say? Great plot, greater Rin, best route overall IMHO. HF: Large parts were mostly mediocre because I couldn't like Sakura or Shirou in that route. The more epic plot and finale though compensated for that. LE: d'awwww, Saber. Also, what is about the art of F/SN? I don't know what there is to complain about except maybe the resolution.
  10. Heh, I finally started reading F/SN after being persuaded an am around Day 5, Fate. So far it's intriguing but I can't read more than a couple of hours before needing a break. I get the feeling that all the info dumps and therefore the whole universe with so much substance are F/SN biggest benefit and flaw at the same time. Oh yeah, Rin Tohsaka best girl.
  11. I was never that good in English until I started reading VNs (and with that, stuff in English), so I always learn new words. Heck, I usually have an online dictionary in my browser open while reading VNs to look up new words I don't know. I'm glad I use the dictionary less, but at the beginning I usually had to look up a word every new line :\.
  12. I never battled online hence lack of wifi back then, just battling against friends IRL, which was often disappointing - how can you use legendaries? I also was never in IV breeding, just breeded around 5 pokemon of one kind and decided which one to keep. Breeding was only important to get better/different movesets but EV training wasn't that laborious (and it was awesome to see at lvl up a stat increasing like "+43" or more). Or I never trained enough pokemon with IV and EV to consider it as bothersome :|. I saw that button but I consider it as odd. Well, I never liked - in any RPG ever - items that increase stats for just a limited period of time. Mawile is type fairy? Didn't see that coming. The stats and the ability of Mega-Mawile are impressive, no wonder it's considered Uber now. As for favourite pokemon, no one can beat Shuckle!
  13. Thanks for the replies, it seems it's really as I suspected. I don't know if I like this new course, building up a good team should be hard... Well, I'll first have to form my opinion on it by playing. The only "hard" main story I really remember was Kanto with Yellow, where the beginning was just unbalanced. But a Butterfree with confusion took care of Brock. Ahem, if I get that right it's possible to use Mega-Evolution during online battles? What happened with the "no items" policy? Yeah, you have to equip your poke with the -nit before, but it's not a typical "passive" item.
  14. Wait, a Pokemon thread? I can't say I'm up to date since I stopped playing after Pearl, but I spent hundreds of hours to build up teams to ... do nothing with them in the end. My last team was focussed on high stamina, status inducing attacks and indirect damage (hypothetically a pure troll team <3), a shame I didn't complete it. BTW, how is X/Y? Is it really worth playing? I borrowed it from a friend of mine but he warned me it'd be too easy, else it should be fun.
  15. I rarely uninstall games from my PC (just those which suck[ed]) and haven't deleted any VN so far. So, when I'm browsing my games/VN folder I remember the good times I had while playing - it's a great feeling. Well, they're like trophys to me and I just can't delete stuff I was sometime somewhat emotionally attached to.
  16. Woah, please use spoilers for YT videos, this thread is lagging... Edit: At least one person is doing it right^^ OT: There are more sad songs in visual novels than I can count without miscounting. So here are a few songs which I feel are sad: The OST of narcissu 1&2 is quite sad and whenever I want to be a bit depressed, I listen to it. The Zero Escape series can't offer much in sadness, but Morphogenetic Sorrow and Blue Bird Lamentation (Luna ;_ always hit me hard. Steins;Gate with Believe me or Solitude - at least the parts with these tracks in the VN were sad. I can't judge if these tracks from Grisaia no Kajitsu are really that sad or I'm just biased... Karma from Ever17. ;_; To mix things up, a bit chiptunes from Ace Attorney. And if you want music not limited to VNs, I can also advise Aerith's Theme (FF VII) and Rena's Theme (Star Ocean II).
  17. Well, yes, the blurb is on the cover of the book. But you won't know how it is written or if the writing style really suits you. Aargh, I also meant that in a more unliteral way! If I stumble upon a product I have no idea of, the first impression is critical. So, if Clannad would appear a tad antiquated to me, I wouldn't pick it up and forget about it.
  18. I don't know if Clannad's reception on Steam will be that good as we hope. If the mainstream gaming sites coverage and reviews will be decent, Clannad could be a good seller, but it has a few flaws to be *really* successful. - It is 10 years old and so is the art style. John Doe - even if he likes current Anime - will think twice before he buys a "game" with these graphics. Even if the story is good, you can judge a book only by its cover. - If the reviews are good, the time investment is a factor that will scare many people off. I can't believe how many of my friends are hesitant to start a singleplayer game with more than 20 hours of gameplay. Clannad with it's glorious length (at least for John Doe) could have some problems here. - The price tag will be at least ~30 bucks, so impulse buys won't happen, which I wouldn't underestimate.
  19. Already four times? Damn son, either fate/stay night is truly amazing or I have to take your praising with a huge grain of salt. Nevertheless, I feel the hype train comming... Is there a recommended route order? Anything that comes to mind that someone should know who theoretically would want to start fate/stay night soon? And yes, it helps in a way.
  20. Alright, getting the Vita version and downloading the PC version seems legit in my eyes. At least I would own a version of the VN and support typemoon in a way. But is it really that worth? How long do you need to read through it? On another note, I can't believe I actually watched that World of Tanks video...
  21. Thanks for clarification, that's what I somewhat figured out on my own. Do you have any idea where I can get the 3 releases of realta nua? If not, maybe I put it on my purchase-backlog as I did with GnK... Well, if I do own the game I see no problem in downloading the game or translation patches for it somewhere. You should just make sure that you're not traced . That sounds interesting, have to check it out when I have the chance. And it's fine that you like suggesting stuff, that's quite helpful . Ähm, Willkommen zurück und danke. Ich wünsch' dir auch eine gute Zeit hier =). Mal schauen ob es hier wirklich so spaßig ist, da ich normalerweise kein Forenmensch bin.
  22. Glad to hear I'm just teased and I guess I could have an a bit exotic mindset for fuwa. Well, before finding a copy, I should be sure which version I want to get. There are like dozen releases and I want to avoid import 18+ titles because of customs. As there isn't any reason to not download hard obtainable titles, there also is no justification for doing it. Blablabla, piracy rant, blablabla . Heck, a credit card is also no blessing door opener as many sites block foreign cards. (And I use a crappy prepaid credit card for that. But PayPal is way better than CC). But buying it later if it gets easier available... Hmm, maybe I could make some exceptions to my policy. I'll just omit elegantly those links for now. I don't play EVE: Online but I heard it's not that easy for newbies. And totally crazy. I also don't play MMOs, could never find the appeal of it. @rest: Thank you for welcoming me - is it rite to greet newbies with random pictures?
  23. That's a tough question... I would say DotT or Deponia, I can't really decide. Monkey Island was fun and good, but the puzzles were sometimes a tad random and the story was too shallow. Oh man, I remember trying to get the 4th piece of the treasure map in ME2, I was stuck for weeks -.-. Hey, please don't kill me! Is this the way how newbies are greeted (except you are playing EVE: Online)? It's not that I don't want to read fate/stay night, but the amazon.co.jp DL version seems to be down and otherwise it's hard to get a copy anywhere :\.
  24. Welp, I'm not good at introductions but maybe it'll be fun. Despite being a new member I'm frequenting these forums for quite some time now. I mainly registered now to thank a Translator here (and because it seems that the Fuwa community isn't that fixated on piracy anymore. IIRC you couldn't say anything against piracy without being hanged back then... Oh well, this should be an introduction, no analysis.). While I'm here, I hope to have fun and get along with you. Okay, something about me: I'm from Germany and am reading VNs for about 1½ years now. It all started - typical - with me stumbling upon KS and trying to find something similar to it. I don't think my further VN journey is that enthralling, so I skip that part. I'm a huge Ace Attorney, Zero Escape and Steins;Gate fan, though my favourite genres are romance and drama. Besides VNs I like to play RPGs, (Point & Plick) Adventures and anything with a good story or soundtrack. Oh yeah, VGM is another blossoming passion of mine =). I think that's it. Anything I forgot? Edit - Anime: I don't watch that much. Once in a while it's natty for relaxing but I miss the immersion and characterisation I have in VNs. So I prefer romance/ecchi/comedy Anime with a shallow plot.
