  1. Let's see here, my opinion about Fate/Stay Night is that it's not so much as the VN itself that is sexist, but it's how the character is. And of course you will see this from time to time, and not only from VN, that a male character wants to protect a girl because she is a girl despite her being able to protect herself. I don't think male dominance is a major theme in this VN, which focuses on ideals, but considering it is an eroge, which is focused towards male audience, it will be quite apparent that they would want to appeal to them. Now, in terms of sexism in VN or even sexism in general, I personally don't care too much about it. What I mean is that I look at males as males and females as females. I never think that these lines of thinking where "men have to do this and women have to do this" make sense. I think that if you want to do something then do it, regardless of your sex. Of course there are some things that men are generally better at than women and vice versa due to many reasons, but sexism is just like any discrimination in the end. Sorry I got a little off topic here but that's my opinion on things. Hopefully it helps somewhat in your dilemma if you still have them~
  2. welcome to the forum, and I think that more people means more fun here~ and it's quite nice that your first VN is Little Busters! because I think it's one of the best VN of all time, definitely top 10 in my list~ you should try out other KEY works such asn clannad and kanon as well, they are beautiful~
  3. the first thing I usually do is to try running as administrator, then if that doesn't work, try to set your system locale to japanese (you'll have to restart your pc). Then if that still doesn;t work, the problem might be with the game itself. (I know you have mentioned all of this, but this is what I always did, and it always works for me)
  4. does it have to be frequent, or once in a while is okay? because if I can contribute once in a while I certainly will~ and about the putting wordpress on the server, do you mean as a plug-in for the site or something? I'll ask around
  5. so the error basically corrupts either the save file... the safe way to test/safeguard against a save file corruption is to make lots of them. I didn't have this problem so I can't test it out sorry
  6. welcome to the forum, I think they encourage intro, hence why this thread is here~ anyway, hope you have fun here!
  7. I spent mine on nothing but studying, though some friends ask me to go to a party. Unfortunately, it's exam period for me, so bad luck~
  8. right now on freakin exam period so no more gaming for me. But, I am replaying majikoi s with the new translations, looks like it's gonna be fun
  9. wow, never thought the topic could get so deep. But this is what fascinate me about this community as a whole. There is a surprisingly large base of fans in the west and of course there will be differing opinion just like in any community.
  10. isn't it because after you send the report, you are directed back to the page and it was deleted, hence the error? I got it as well when I report it and the thread was immediately deleted
  11. ah, that problem sometimes appear on windows 7. The simple solution is to press control (skip) just to get over that part, and it should be able to continue no problem
  12. Based on what you requested and the VN that you have played, I suggest you try some titles like Da Capo and its sequel, and also Clannad as these two titles give several heroine routes. These two VN are also not straight out of the ordinary, but also have their own uniqueness. However, for more exciting plot and setting, II strongly suggest Fate/Stay Night and Muvluv Extra and its sequels. These two titles provide a very strong plot that focuses more on the story itseld rather than the heroines, although the heroines are of course still a strong part of the story
  13. my first ending was a bad one too. In the end I managed to get a satisfactory ending though.
  14. Persona 4 golden is pretty much the only reason why I buy a vita in the first place. The amount of extra content in it is just great~ Persona 3 FES The Answer is just amazing. I wished they remake persona 3 into PS3 or vita. I would definitely pay money for that. back onto the topic, it would really be good if they port JRPG such as the persona series to PC, but with the way it has been going, it is unlikely.
  15. hmm, I haven't had this problem before, and I also use 64 bit windows 7 by the way. first of all, make sure that all files are downloaded and are present in the directory as sometimes antiviruses will automatically delete files. I've had problems with that in the past, though not for this particular VN. Otherwise try to change your language for non unicode programs to japanese. this usually solves problems
  16. Thank you for the replies! It is really good seeing many different opinions about this. I don't know about Ixrec and others as I have not personally chat to them on the net, so I can't comment on the fact that he's an elitist or an asshole or whatever. I agree with their point of making a good translation, but as you say, that doesn't mean we should demean those that cannot translate properly, unless they really do not put effort to it( i.e. machine translation). Yeah, in the end, what matters is to improve a community as a whole and encourage translation, whether officially or not. Giving back to the community is definitely a good way to contribute and there are so many ways we can do it. You don't have to know japanese, nor be able to buy their product. As long as it will help, then the community will keep growing. Yes, I agree to this. Every translators should do their best~ Well its a fact btw I can tell the diff between a JAP-ENG TL from a the original content.. which is why I play it in jap.... but doesn't mean I didn't check the quality of each work in the vn community... I can tell from the start whether they made it good or bad... plus the fact that some translate some lines very exaggerating... cant stop to laugh on it... they add words which is not base from the original context in some translations... the only lack about it is that they need to be guided by a truly experience translator... for those who started to do translations. basically that way it will be good exprience. we dont need to mock one another's work we just have to cooperate ^^. Problem is is there any willing experience translator would do such role? and also is there anyone who will spend time for translating and commit for the very end? If there is a person knows japanese at least barely JPLT N2 or N3 I'll will guide to you to Anon1 he will be willing to teach you ^^. Yep, mocking it wouldn't really accomplish anything. We should all strive to do our best. And indeed, there are some lines that is "made up" by the translator, and this is fine in my opinion as this is done even by official translations. For me personally, I love writing, and translating has been a very interesting topic to me. That is why I want to take those extra steps to deliver a good translation if I ever translate a VN.
  17. I think that is indeed one of the factors they really care about, the fact that the translation is somehow going get a bad reputation and therefore causing the original to get bad reputation. I think that this is wrong because if you see what you think is a bad translation, you can have whatever opinion you have about the translation but that should not affect the opinion of the original work at all. This is why I agree that you technically do not "trash" the original work. And also, if you think about it, it is not possible sometimes to truly convey the author's intention in a different language. This is not only for a VN or an anime fansubs, but also in novels. In the end, unless the author him/herself translate it, or they endorse a certain translation, some meaning will be lost in translation. In terms of reputation, I agree that it is important, as well as experience (though reputation is usually accompanied with experience anyway). But just because there are some unknown group translating a VN, doesn't mean that it will be bad, nor does it mean that they will be "trashing" the original VN. It should be in every translator's intention to try their best to stick to the original or intended meaning as much as possible. Of course, when it comes to fluency, this is not a question of should or should not. Just as I'm sure that the original is in a fluent Japanese language, the translation should be in fluent English language. In the end, the goal of translating (especially fan translating) a work is to spread the work past the language barrier. In that respect you should give a fluent English translation if you're translating
  18. welcome to the forum Rob. Katawa shoujo is in my opinion one of those community successes that should be appreciated not just because of the amount of effort they put into it, but the influence they have on the general community as a whole. Anyway, it's nice meeting you and I hope you enjoy the VN that fuwanovel provides
  19. well, it depends. The VN will obviously have more content since it the anime won't be able to contain everything from the VN. However, that being said, I think the adaptation is quite excellent and provide everything important pretty much. I myself played the steins;gate VN first, then found out about the anime, but it could go either way. Back onto the topic, I am now playing Phenomeno. I can't believe I missed this release by Nitro+
  20. I never saw the ending (I couldn't predict it at all I mean). For plot purposes, I have to say, the originality is just out there. I like it
  21. welcome Joachim. I have heard a lot about Robert Heinlein, but didn't have a chance to read any of his works just yet. Maybe now I will. Katawa shoujo is one of the best free game I've ever played, you should try other routes as well. Anyway, nice to meet you~
  22. very disturbing, lots of blood and character death
  23. if you want to get them legally (that is buying them) you have to go to sites like Jlist. Otherwse, there are plenty of places where you can download them
