  1. So, I finished all the routes in Ever17 except for Coco's. Well, so far I'm enjoying this visual novel very much. Never before I enjoyed trying to solve mystery in a work of fiction that much. Also, I like how it uses the traditional mechanics of the medium to present the mystery and hide the hints. In the end, this visual novel is probably the least adaptable to any other type of media among the ones I've read so far. Even for Umineko or Rewrite it is possible (theoretically) to think of a way to make an adaptation work. Here you will either have to completely rewrite everything in the story, or just take one route and adapt it separately (I guess, this is what the manga did. Don't think it would work considering that individual routes, well, are pretty average without each other.) My main guess about mystery so far is that Even though I disliked most of the characters at the very beginning, in the end I got used to all of them. Except for Coco. I hope her route makes me see her something more than an annoying little brat. It's quite noticeable that this VN is pretty old, the overall presentation still works. Not that I ever prioritized presentation in games that much. Right now I am ready to give Ever17 a good 8 or a weak 9. Let's see what the final route is going to bring to us. Now, I want to write more about the hints I saw in the story and how I interpreted them. Well, I enjoy reading people's rants like this, so, probably, someon will like it. And, please, no spoilers in the answers! I'm already spoiled a bit too much, and you'll see what I mean if you decide to read it. P.S. Also, authors don't believe in Physics.
  2. Well, I definitely like Sora as a character. Moreover, she is probably the only likable character in the cast so far (the reason I played her route first). Well, I liked the romantic buildup between her and the MC. On the other hand, the major plot of her route didn't really make me interested that much. Well, I feel like the route overall is good, but I personally wouldn't call it the best thing ever. And there is really high possibility that I change my opinion about this route after some time. It happens to me all the time. Sorry for slow response. It's almost 2 AM here.
  3. Finally came to Ever17. Finished Sora's and You's routes, now on Tsugumi's. Well, there are quite a lot of things I don't really like about this VN so far. On the other hand, that grand mystery is really the thing that makes me continue. I have several guesses about what is going on so far. I hope I don't completely spoil myself before the end.
  4. Well, you know, it really seems this game is just not for you. From what I've seen, most people who like Grisaia do it because of comedy in the common route and because of the characters. If you like neither of those, then this VN will most likely be just a massive waste of time for you. Well, there is a possibility that you may come to liking a route or two, because they are quite different from each other, but I wouldn't bet on that. I personally finished Grisaia about a month ago, and even though I came with very low expectations, I ended up liking it quite a lot. There are some major flaws in all the routes. Plot is a bit too convenient sometimes, and pacing is pretty slow. Michiru's route feels completely out of place, and even though it would probably work in some Key games, here it feels like the worst part of the VN. Sachi's route is full of boring and unrelatable drama. Yumiko's is pretty empty: no good points, no really bad points (well, except for a certain cold chicken scene). Makina's good ending is extremely rushed, and Amane's route has a bit too many sex scenes (well, not a real flaw for an eroge) and feels unfinished because of references to sequels. And that climax came out of nowhere. On the other hand, I guess, the way it is written is just enjoyable for me. I liked comedy and Yuiji's monologues in common route, I liked action and character development in Makina's route, and I loved "Angelic Howl" part in Amane's. Even other routes, though generally bad, didn't put off me that much. So, in the end, it all comes to personal preferences. And, btw, I hate Muv-luv Extra.
  5. Well, Umineko and Rewrite have really good soundtracks. Also, Muv-luv Alternative has several great songs. Also, I recommend checking Mahoyo. I personally only played currently translated part of the game, and didn't really like it that much, but the music is really fantastic.
  6. Well, it certainly happens to me more often than I would want it to. Probably, the worst case is Fate/stay night. I got spoiled on several plottwists in Fate and UBW even before I started the VN itself, though I completely misunderstood the one about Archer's identity. Also I was actually spoiled on who was the culprit in Umineko, but I just didn't believe it at the time. It happened around the time when I was reading episode 4 or something. I really need to stop reading comments under VN related videos on Youtube before I finish those VNs! Well, Umineko is probably the best example of me enjoying a visual novel/book/etc that much only because I knew practically nothing about it before I started. Well, and it wasn't really a spoiler, but I probably wouldn't have guessed the famous plottwist in G-senjou if it weren't for several discussions I saw on the Internet. They weren't really spoilerous, but made me think more about the story.
  7. I actually had the same problem when I was installing the game with Amaterasu patch. If I remember it right, in the end I just installed the game in Japanese and only then applied the patch. Anyway, the best solution would be to install a virtual machine with Windows Xp and play the game in it. This way you won't have to deal with aforementioned problems.
  8. Several other problems with screenshots of the VNs I personally played: Rewrite: All screenshots in the first row except for the second one are actually from a fandisk, not from the original game. Chaos;Head: Again, pictures in the first row are not from the actual game but from other sources. Not sure about the forth one though. Muv-luv: Poster is from Altered Fable, all the screenshots in the first row have nothing to do with the first game. Tsukihime: everything in the first row is fanart, cover picture is actually a cover of a nonexistent anime. Umineko, Higurashi: Second rows in both are entirely fanart and etc. HIgurashi Kai: First row and the third picture in the second one are okay. Other pictures are just random posters. Fsn, Cross Channel, Liitle busters: everything seems ok.
