Hmmm... it should work with ITH... the malie engine hooks are built into the later versions of ITH and ITHVNR has them by default.  I remember playing it with both agth and ITH at different times without experiencing any problems.  The anime-sharing page said ITH.

I can only suggest that you try VNR and see if it has a recorded h-code in the text settings that you might be able to use for ITHVNR.

If you have the Akebono version, I never played it, but I heard of some people having the familiar Light problems due to (unique to Light) font choices.  If so, use the instructions from the anime-sharing page for Electro-arms to change the form to MS Gothic.

That is what everyone told me. They all said that ITH worked. However, I had no such luck. For example, ITHVNR and ITH are working perfectly with Senshinkan and their engine should be the same. Furthermore, with ITHVNR I don't even get "Initialization success" message which happens after the hook. Like I mentioned, I get extracts of such questions whether I want to quit the game. And if you are talking about regedit + facefont thing, then I can't do it because that folder lacks facefont keys. In fact it has only 3, among them I could recognize only 1 which was location of the game (compared to Senshinkan which has dozens). Creating new key does not help.

Edit. I don't think this is against the rules, so could you drop me a link for a latest ITH.

  2. I asked this on different place, but it didn't help so I will ask here. I have trouble extracting Kajiri Kamui Kagura text. I know that all light games have this problem, but I couldn't find solution for KKK.

I have tried latest versions I could find of ITH and ITHVNR, but they failed. The only thing they extract is system text, for example when I click to close the program. Chiitrans crashed program immediately. I failed to find any working hook code ether.

Does the series continue in a utsuge fashion where the loss of Toko made Reiji unable to love another? I really can't stand utsuge, but if he picks himself up and gets on with his life somewhere during the story then i'd be willing to read the second. Reading an super depressed Reiji for a whole vn doesn't sound all too appealing. I know romance was never the main focus, but it was a bit part of it towards the end of the first.

I would say that Toko's story is only a little part of KnS 2. However, there is a quote from Dante (just don't remember was it from part 1 or 2) which sounds like this "Abandon all hope all those who came here". This more or less summarize KnS series so far. From my personal point of view, KnS 2 was more depressing and disturbing than original.

I don't really care either way, but I am curious, it is always pleasant to have a bit of romance with an heroine you like.

It depends on your definition really. Some people might identify some of routes as romance, while others would see them as friendship or attachment. However, at least in 1 route MC clearly stated that X girl was someone he loved. If you want typical romance routes, I would say that C;C is a bad choice.

  5. For me personally, if I ever get this problem it means that Chiitrans was unable to extract anything. So, ether you can try to google a hook code (it worked sometimes) or majority of cases use latest ITHVNR. You can combine it with Chiitrans. Use ITHVNR to hook/extract, open Chiitrans and instead of hooking just open TL window. This way ITHVNR will extract while Chiitrans display text.

People are voting for what's translated, according to the results.

That is an obvious result. After all, majority of people here cannot read Japanese. However, this is not the only cause. Lets be honest, translated novels in this list is that good. Dies Irae is basically the god of chuuni. It was very well known even before translation. KnS is also a classic.

  7. All novels in this list are very good so I will only give you some of my thoughts.

Dies Irae - for me personally DI is number 1 fantasy/battle royal story, but if you read it, prepare for disappointment in majority of other chuuni novels.

Baldr Sky Dive 1 - if you read this, read Dive 2 immediately. This is a single story, it must not be separated. Basically same as Umineko.

Eustia - is pretty good, though it loses to other VNs in this list (at least in my opinion).

Kara no Shoujo - good, but just in case, do not eat anything while reading. When I was reading part 2 I did this mistake and there was this one scene.

I'll elaborate Sparteh by saying that after all it would be impossible to have VNs won the Nobel. As for the reason why, I'll write it here but before that here's the criteria for the winner, although granted it might not quite objective because it was from the Nobel committee site itself. For the reasons, I would say that none of the VNs is fulfill the pioneer category because some of the previous works did have more or less same content, especially with MLA in regard of war. For universal interest categories, keep in mind that most of adult wouldn't interested with thing such as giant robot and AI in which it was featured by both of MLA and Baldr Sky respectively. As for Umineko, let's just said that leotard wearing girls surely won't make the judge interested, and moreso for Kara no Shoujo because we have the teacher sexed with the students.

tldr - While there's some VN with the heave theme, keep in mind that it should be accepted by a lot of people and I think with the usual stereotype the VN itselves already have a hard time to be accepted by a lot of people.

PS - It should be noted that usually the winner is either poem, play, or novel book.

I did mention that there is just something dragging it down. However, I would like to comment something you mentioned. Even if we change Nobel to any other literally contest which has more than average importance and different criteria, the result would be the same. In order for something of that level to be created and approved, it is necessary to have good popularity, fame etc. With the current content of an average VN, it is impossible for this format to become popular. One could easily recommend a book to someone else, but if he or she tried to achieve the same with VN, they would likely be misunderstood and made fun off.

From my personal point of view, VNS MUST: get rid off h-content (except for those stories which primarily focus on it)>reduce amount of high school as the main setting>make some serious VNs (imagine if we had hundreds instead of 10 or so VNs on S;G level or above).

After this much, companies would at least have a way to enter western markets, because now, they don't even have a good product to sell.

As for those few VNs we discussed, KnS teacher/student part at least barely fits the story based on time when action takes place. In many countries it was pretty common occurrence during those times. I wouldn't be so sure about AI and giant robots. Matrix did have a cult following, while Transformers still make tons of cash even though everything besides special effects is bad in those films. Heck, the current superhero culture is much more ridiculous.

  9. Since it was bumped once before, I don't think it will really matter if I do it as well. My personal answer - not likely. Why?

The main reason is the content of VNs. It was mentioned before that VNs have sort of stigma which would cause problems, but that stigma exists for a reason. Lets look at VNDB. It has over 22k VNs in its database. How many of them have actual plot which is more than "MC sleeps with a girl and a short sidestory"? 300-400? That is about 1.5%. The remaining 98.5% are already dragging the potential down. Now, how many of them is actually good and carries some sort of message? Answer is not many. Many of them are further ruined by useless h-scenes. The vast majority of the world enjoy porn, but would never admit it loud due to the reactions of others. H-scenes and cliche high school setting are like cancer killing its victim.

Now, lets look a little further. VNs by their very nature consists of routes. In order for them to reach that great of the level, all of the routes have to be amazing in quality. For example, Steins;Gate. The true route is without a doubt one of the best stories I have ever read in all forms of literature. However, side routes were not good. How could something be rewarded if you had to say something like "the main part was good, BUT that part was trash"...

Thematically, such VNs as Umineko - for obvious reasons, ML Alternative - war, PTSD etc., S;G - space and time, cause and effect, Baldr Sky Dive - human, machines, AI, KnS - tragedy, loneliness and acceptance, have potential, but there is just something dragging them down.

Well, there are a lot of bad endings in LB, and I am pretty sure that some walkthroughs don't mention all of them. Or it could be some bug. Actually, did the game update recently? Sometimes this can lead to weird problems with save files, and restarting fixes them.

If you decide to tell Kurugaya about bullying, you can land on the bad ending AFAIK. It isn't explicitly mentioned in walkthrough, as it isn't "bad ending with a story" - but just what you experienced - kind of game over, the route ends prematurely.

It was most likely a bug. I was following walkthrough. When I retried performing SAME choices, I got a different ending. Anyway. It does not matter anymore. For now, everything works fine

  11. 44 minutes ago, Dreamysyu said:

Yeah, the real ending definitely had credits. Are you sure you didn't get some bad end? I don't remember if this route had them since it's been a while. Maybe you should replay this route from the beginning and use the walkthrough for all choices?

    44 minutes ago, onorub said:

I'm guessing it was a bad ending. I'm pretty sure that was the point where Kurugaya and Riki were supposed to confess to each other.

    10 minutes ago, adamstan said:

Yeah, something went wrong. I'd say that the fireworks are the beginning of the route's main part. Try again with walkthrough from the beginning.

I was thinking that it might be bad ending as well, but there is a catch. First, there aren't really any choices which could lead to bad ending. 2 - walkthroughs do not mention any bad ending. Heck, I was using them from the very beginning. I am sure I did not make any mistake. I couldn't find any information about existence of any bad end.

I really don't want to replay entire route again. They are way to long for that. I will try to re

load from save I have (just before tape recording) and see how it goes.

Edit. With a restart + CTRL I managed to go further this time. There were no difference in choices I made, yet I still got different ending. Now this is a first. I have never found unknown endings.

  12. Hello. Not sure if this is actually I problem or just mine misunderstanding, but still decided to ask.

I have been playing Little Busters English Edition and finished routes in this order Rin>Mio>Komari>Kurugaya, but something strange happened. From my knowledge this route has 2 endings. Standard and one which unlocks after Refrain. Shortly after fireworks scene while MC was talking with Kurugaya, he said that he wish it lasted forever, screen faded to white and I got save notification. It felt strange to me because there were no credits unlike other routes. I didn't get the last choice from walkthrough ether. So I googled both endings and none of them matched the one I got. Rather it appeared that I was missing a part of content. So does English edition have different/extra endings/other problems or is that normal?

  13. Routes - the most unique aspect of visual novels. Ability to choose your own story and how it ends is what distinguishes VNs from other formats. Each VN can have from 1 to dozen endings. So I thought it would be fun to know what are your top 3/5/7/10 favorite route+ending combinations and why.

Note, don't forget spoilers where necessary.

    My top 7:

    • Umineko Magic end - brilliant ending for my favorite VN. From themes to music and execution - I found everything perfect.
    • Steins Gate true end - same as above
    • Dies Irae Marie and Rea - loved both routes. Because of these 2 routes and endings DI became my favorite battle royal. Though battles were better in Rea's route, I liked Marie more as heroine.
    • Baldr Sky dive - Sora. Loved how everything was connected in the end. Concepts and execution were great to.
    • Silverio Vendetta - Vendetta. It is a rare case where chuunige actually fulfills and actually adapts things it borrows from legends this well. Zephyr in this route became one of my favorite MC of VNs of all time. Vendetta was a great heroine as well.
    • F/SN Realta Nua/Avalon end. Loved the narration.
  14. After finishing Silverio series, my PTR is lacking chuunige. More or less I believe I have finished the majority of popular stuff. I am NOT in the mood for Muramasa or KKK (will finish both one day) so I want something new. I prefer VNs with as little h-content as possible, including backstories (I am looking at you HF and Ayakashibito). Though I always skip it, it is still annoying. If a VN has good philosophical/psychological content (Fates heroism, Baldr AI etc.) and/or chuuni naming actually fulfills its purpose (for example, Silverio Vendetta - Orpheus and Euridike story elements in true route) it is a huge plus.

    1.  The important part wasn't killing Meina but ceasing to glorify her in his memories.  He had to admit that, as much as he loves her, he was far more creeped out by and terrified of her ability to remain apparently positive in the face of the hell they lived through as children.

    2.  Zephyr didn't recover his arms... he was remade as a Masei by merging physically with Vendetta.

    3.  Zephyr and Vettie, by becoming one with the Astral, lost their bodies' cohesion and became an embodiment of the concept of the revenge of the weak against the strong.  This caused them to phase into the same state that Yamato (Japan) is in, where they became a gestalt without a physical form.

    4.  First, it needs to be explained that, after a time, Zephyr and Vettie's combined souls created the gestalt world of 'Underworld' and Kagutsuchi and Valzeride's combined souls created the gestalt world of the Light.  Rain, in her despair, was able to resonate with the waves of the Underworld due to that despair and hatred and became able to manifest anti-Astral particles.  Zephyr and Vettie, during this time, were melted into the Underworld and lightly linked to Yamato (as Valzeride and Kagutsuchi were to Light and Yamato).  Kerberos is an archetype manifested by Rain's perception of the nature of the Underworld (since she is the third soul to have contacted it) and only retains bits and pieces of Zephyr and his memories but is not Zephyr himself.

A Few Conceptual comments: The whole reason Yamato was encouraging the conflict in Trinity was to cause the dissolution of the extreme world manifestations of the Underworld and Light, which were formed from only two merged souls (as opposed to the several hundred million of Yamato, which led to a balanced deity).  This was because those extreme world manifestations were far more responsive to prayer and interventionist tendencies, because there were only so many souls to 'convince' with those prayers.

    Spoiler

I might have misunderstood, but I thought that Hades killed hero in Vendetta. So that last Kerberos trick should be understood and destruction of underworld by separating Zeph and Vetti, but how exactly that weakened Helios? And since they were freed, should they now still be considered god-like beings or returned to normal.

Now the only truly important remaining question which no one will be able to answer is whether Chitose kept her promise about reverse...

  16. I don't think this comment really needs spoilers, but I will put it in this way. Sumika was one of my most hated characters in the franchise (and it didn't change), but I still find Alternative really good. Furthermore, Meya still remained the best girl with Kasumi coming close. Romance is not the main focus of the story anyway.

  17. So I finished both Silverio Vendetta and Silverio Trinity. Simple opinion: Vendetta's route>>>>>>Trinity's true route=Chitose>Rain>Aya>Milly>Mistel. Anyway, these VNs were the hardest VNs in terms of JP that I have ever completed, so, honestly, there were a few things that I misunderstood or missed (especially during chunni info dumps) so I would like to make a few things clear.

Heavy spoilers from all routes of Vendetta and Trinity below

    Spoiler

    1. During the true route of Vendetta, Zephyr was "went to Hades" where he learned the true about Vetti. How one should interpret the part where Zephyr kills Meina and awakens after it? I mean symbolically. At least for me, interpretation of letting go of the past (aka killing it) and counterattack of the weak do not mix.

    2. During the part mentioned above, how did exactly Zeph recover his arms? They kinda appeared out of air.

    3. As much as I understand, during the final fight of Vendetta, Zeph and Vetti went full Dies Irae mode and in the end transformed into anti particles. Is that correct? Explanation kinda got lost in translation.

    4. From what I understand, in Trinity, Rain acted as a transmitter/receiver and got connected to them. This caused part of Zeph's powers to appear as Kerberos, while Rain herself channeled some of Vetti's power. Trinity's final fight also went multi-dimensional. So where exactly were Zeph and Vetti during that time? Furthermore, what was exactly the final act that Kerberos pulled out during the final fight. I mean when he sorta prayed to Zeph and Vetti and claimed something about going home.

This confused me a lot due to the shier number of times when one referred to Hades aka one of Zeph's code names.

These are the few questions I could think of for now.

Generally, it seems like complex VNs (with tags such as “intelligent,” “to solve a mystery” and “difficult to get”) are the most highly rated, while more sexual oriented tags seem to be linked with lower average scores (which is probably due to nukige/porn VNs).

While language is an important barrier, I think that amount of pornographic content is another big issue. Many countries have problems with it as well. For example, in the region I live, the only true way to find any pornographic content is to google it. You cannot see it on TV or any kind of stores. It is viewed extremely negative. Due to this, it is hard to recommend it or to even talk about it with others.  Majority of VNs have little story and a lot of h-scenes. If you want to sell them, you need to censor them.

Another point, many cultures don't care about high school that much. While it focuses on specific demographic, but lack of variety is harmful. If more VNs with different settings and without h-scenes were released in the west, it might be easier for younger generation to freely introduce it to others, which in turn would lead to higher fan base.

  19. Both of them were bad, so I would go with the one which I consider to be lesser of 2 evils: Chaos;Head.

I will try to put this without spoilers:

    • 11eyes has multiple routes, however they all differ by only a few scenes including h-scene. Otherwise they are identical. After I read this VN, I sincerely regretted wasting time on it. There is literally nothing worth mentioning about the story or characters. Seriously speaking, OP of VN was worth more than entire VN.
    • Chaos;Head had a great concept, but completely failed in using it. Heck, if you can deal with protagonist being what the rest of the world imagine otakus to be, then the beginning of C;H is pretty decent. Though, it completely shifts its tone later on. However, the main idea/concept was interesting enough.
  20. Well, I live in Europe so I am not that well versed in everything that happens in the USA, but I did write a BA thesis on his political career. The more I tried to analyse what he says, the more I reached a conclusion that he is an egoistic, self-centered, perverted racist with a pride and god complex of a third rate villain.

That was just from my personal analysis of his public speeches, but when you look at real situation it doesn't feel that far off. His entire political campaign and election process was filled with scandals and most of his political speeches were ether discriminating certain groups, for example women, or directly insulting. His political ideology is directly an opposite of what previous generations wished America to be. Everyone who says something that he does not like (like polls on TV) are lying,. Heck, even his own party is crumbling. How many of group have left since he became a president?

The way I see it, his supporters now can be divided into 4 groups:

    1. misinformed people;
    2. racists;
    3. those who find him easy to manipulate/those to whom he is useful;
    4. idiots.
