    1. Rose Guns Days, because Subahibi is blech

    2.  Haven't read it, don't plan to

    3.  Baldr Sky Zero is both more comedic and the setting is more morally dark than Skydive.  Baldr Force has not aged well, but it is still good... though SKydive is still better.

    4.  Ikusa Megami Zero (after the game's turning point), Sinclient (after he regains his memories), Tokyo Babel (similar personality, differing reasons), Vermilion Bind of Blood (cold about most things, save when he isn't).  None of those is absolutely perfect, because Senri isn't an archetypical personality, meaning his personality isn't widely used.  Most characters that seem cool on the surface tend to go into 'emo explosive mode' at some point, in various directions.

    5.  If you liked Rewrite, don't read Key, because it doesn't share anything with Key's other works but the humor.

Well, I dropped those guys who asked me all this a link to the thread. Now they can't complain.

Though I personally  got particularly interested in your 2nd answer. No offence, but you seem as a guy who reads everything in row. Why so negative about KnS?

Well, sure, though I do wonder which of the letters in a "sister enthusiast" looks like "9" or "g".

I never said that these words contain them, did I?  I merely stated that this translation has such mistakes. As for siscon, as a translator I can say that translating these kinds of expressions is a pain. When you translate, you have to adapt as much as possible to target language. Technically speaking, such words as siscon, loli, NTR etc. are not proper English words, so translators have to be creative here. In fact, depending on the country and company, translators can even be fined if they don't translate in a certain way. So while it may sound strange, there isn't much one can do about it.

  3. I know a few people who play VNs, but don't have accounts so they keep asking me various questions that I can't answer since I haven't played most of VNs they are interested in. So I have decided to make a list of all those questions and ask them here:

    1. Rose Guns Days VS Subahibi for next long VN and why? (for person who loves plot based VNs and chuuni, but hate moe)
    2. Is Kara no Shoujo worth playing considering it is a mystery vn and a person was heavily spoiled about the ending of VN?
    3. How good are Baldr Force and Zero in terms of plot compared to Dive?
    4. Good VNs with MC similar to Senri from Sorcery Jokers? (besides Grisaia)
    5. If one decided to read 1 Key work, which should he choose: Air, Kannon, Clannad or Little Busters? (considering that person read Rewrite and liked Moon route the most)

I am at the 5th days. When I finished the prologue, I was so fucking happy I could choose Senri without having to read Haruto's bullshit (and I thought I could finish the VN like this). Now I have to read the other boring dumbass, and I don't know if I'll be able to do that until the 5th days without dropping.

    Here are my questions:

Is there a MC more important than the other? Or is it balanced?

Can I skip Haruto (press ctrl) without missing something important?

Is he still dumb and painful to read in his route?

For importance, it is debatable. Technically they should be more or less equal. Though, for me personally, Senri felt more important. This is a bit of ending spoiler, though I won't include details, just a little of general outline.

    Spoiler

Haruto and schoolgirl squad won their final fight, only because Senri won his and pretty much did all background work by himself. Heck, all enemies that Haruto faced and fights themselves were trash.

Skipping Haruto? Well in the end all information was shared through the story. Though, you would miss all backgrounds and important facts about 2 heroines. Also, his route focus more on certain aspects, that were only a bit mentioned in Senri's part. So in the end it wouldn't work. I wouldn't recommend skipping it, BUT I know how annoying Haruto is, so if you want to skip something, you could skip some of SoL dialogues.

And yes, he still stays annoying, though some people would claim that not so much.

I found out from the very beginning that i would like Fiona best. That red haired girl which i don't recall the name for is annoying as hell, and i bet the black haired one is the typical arrogant heroine. I haven't actually met her yet in my game.

Well, they were a bit annoying, but nowhere near to the level of the Haruto.

Just a short info about story structure. It has NO spoilers about plot itself, just a way how VN is structured in terms of routes. Still, I will put it in spoilers, since some people might not want to know it.

    Spoiler

Actually VN goes more like this Common route>choose MC, here the focus is on 2 heroines (one for Senri and 1 for Haruto)>choose mc again, focus on another 2 heroines>true end>heroine epilogues. Those choose MC parts can more or less be considered to be heroine routes, except for the fact that they don't go into separate timelines like in most VNs.

When it comes to heroines, I have hard time choosing the best. Overall as a character, Fiona was the best, but the way how chemistry worked, 2 of the best scenes in entire VN (at least in my opinion) were with Noah.

so did it or did it not, mate

It depends on taste I guess. For me it was underwhelming. Of course, I didn't expect anything on the same level as lets say Umineko Magic End or Baldr Sky Dive endings. It was lacking. Furthermore, it was even worse than endings of the some short VNs I have played, i.e. Phenomeno or Guilty Crown Lost Christmas. If I had to compare, it was on similar level and terms to Shinigami no Testament. I could tell more, but that would be heavy spoilers. Do you want to know more?

  7. Finished entire VN. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Just a few thoughts (spoiler free):

Senri was cool. Probably one of the best MC. Part focusing on him in my opinion was much better than one focusing of Haruto. Speaking of which, the only character I disliked more than him was the final villain.

For things concerning shipping, I liked Senri's and Noah's interactions the most. The final scene in which they  appear together (before final credits) was probably the highlight of entire VN. Considering that this is chuuni VN, fights are the most important in the end. Even those were much better if Senri was involved.

  8. Can't say anything about Phoenix Wright, since I haven't played it.

Decided to post because I want to add something to Grisaia entry. Since you already mentioned that it is Series, why don't we add remaining entries of the franchise: Grisaia no Yuukan, Grisaia no Senritsu and Grisaia no Zankou. They might be side stories, but still add to overall story experience

Yeah, the 4 heroines for 2 protagonists seems kinda weird considering it's a kinetic novel. And a harem ending also seems a bit unlikely for that kind of VN.

Just judging from the looks I'd guess that the younger looking Noah and Asahi are more into Haruto and Riku and Annabel more into Senri. Just speculating though.

Also found a few reviews that might prove helpful:

Nahh. Its more like big breast faction (Noah and Fione) are into Senri, while schoolgirl faction (Asahi and Riku) into Haruto

And not to mention the "that's not playing fair" sounds like a goddamned child.

I personally see him as a dumber version of Shirou Emiya and that is saying a lot...

Btw. What do you guys think about romance element? I mean it is kinetic novel so we don't have choices. Furthermore, each MC has 2 heroines. I haven't finished it yet so I can't say for sure, but isn't that pretty much a guarantee of an open ending, in which all romantic build up becomes useless?

Terrible as in badly written or simply bad endings?

Spoiler free version: illogical ones. As in, we build world for the entire novel and then ditch it.

Spoiler version: Shinigami no Testament ending

    Spoiler

SnT had 5 heroines in total. Its structure was: true route part 1> unlock 2 side heroines routes>unlock true route part 2>unlock 3rd side heroine>unlock true route part + true ending.

In total it had 2 true/main heroines: Yua and Vivi. Technically, they were supposed to be equal.

The problem was true ending. In it MC "sacrificed" himself. Writers made it look as if has died.

Epilogue: MC is alive and well, meets Yua (no memories about each other) and Vivi does not even appear

    Discussion Topics

How about you? I'm pretty sure we just had a thread not too long ago about H scenes, but who doesn't like talking about this stuff, right?

    • Do you think that adult content should be such a large presence in the Visual Novel medium?
    • How do you feel about All Ages releases that add new content that the 18+ version doesn't have to compensate for the lost content?
    • Be honest. Do you read VNs for the plot, or for the plot?

Before I begin, I want to summarize my opinion: I love VN as a format, but I DESPITE h-scenes.  I distinguish 2 separate activities: reading story and reading "plot". If I wanted for that type of "plot" I could easily google any other format much faster and enjoy it better.

Now back to the topic, what I think about adult content in VNs? Well, such content can be split into pornographic and other content. If we are speaking only about pornographic one, we have way to much of it. There are VNs and routes where it is important, for example Saya no Uta, but most of the VNs have it for no reason. Most of such content is not only useless, but also comes out of nowhere. Furthermore, it is censored... Like seriously, whats the point of it?

As for other type of adult content, I don't see much of the problem.

When it comes to All Ages version, there are a few things that are important and have to be taken into consideration. The most important of which is what it exactly sensors. If it just h-scenes, then there is no problem, but some patches sensor other content as well. If that content is just some gore then it is not a problem even if no new content is added. On the other hand, sometimes those elements are important to the plot. For example, F/SN HF. Not going into much of spoiler territory (though most of people have ether played or know it already), censoring heroine's backstory did change a lot of things, but knowing original uncensored information allowed to understand situation better in censored version.

  13. Ignoring all joke endings I would choose Umineko

    Spoiler

It is magic. I would choose it for all what it represent. Knowing that it was obviously a trick, but still choosing to believe in it, especially after everything you went through...Well, it is hard...

Actually Might as well include the science ADV series in the format we presented for the Zero Escape and when they cry series, BUT, noting that the Chaos and Steins series have different themes. About F/HA I think we should discuss whether to include fandiscs or not, since they require the original game.

Yeah I will Include Grisaia and Root Double.  I well reasearch about Guilty Crow (is there a VNDB page to it?).

NOTE: Sorry for the late response I'm cleaning my humble abode.

Well, Chaos and Steins shouldn't be grouped in the same way. S;G 0 is more of a side story than a sequel and is more similar in nature to F/HA (even though F/HA is a fandisk)

F/HA on the other hand, at least deserves a mention. It is true, that it is a Fandisk and requires original game, BUT this is a list of top 50 translated VNs and not top 50 translated original games. And F/HA is just that good.

    As for Guilty Crow. https://vndb.org/v7402
