You should definitely read through each route. The only one I could say you could even remotely consider not reading is Komari's route. However, I would highly recommend you read through the whole VN.

Honestly though, doesn't the character matter. It's great to say an archetype is overrated, but some characters work perfectly in their mold or even break out of it.

No, but the arcs that are from ef - a tale of melodies, is a lot more flushed out and much deeper. The Latter tale might be a good place to start if you don't want to repeat too much of the stuff from ef - a tale of melodies. Although the timeline does shift somewhat.

If you need the help, I could probably give you a hand on the smaller jobs. I don't think I can invest too much time into the bigger jobs though.
