Shin Koihime Musou Translation Project

Thanks a lot Akikojam :) , and thank you Nekkaro too for inviting him here :)

Well I dug through my PC and found the unpacker for it, I've unpacked the images and the scripts containing all the text, I can upload them if you would like to have them, and I myself will start editing the graphics and images of it. Hope we can get a full team going soon so this game can be translated :)

Also, I was thinking it may be possible to start a Kickstarter to cover the licencing issues. Seems like that is our biggest roadblock right now.

The only problem with that is would Mangagamer and/or BaseSon allow that to happen. Plus you have to give out something based on the amount donated, and kickstarter gets 10% of the final amount you receive if you reach goal. There is alot that goes into a kickstarter that most don't think about.

If this project ever takes off, please let me know. I might have some time to edit or quality check it in between Walkure Romanze's progress and similar projects :P

Would you be able to do the technical editing? We've got a mostly translated script, but we do need it in the game for it to be read.

This is why I'm glad we've got a small team going, support on all the issues. I do definitely see an issue with people receiving something for donations. We obviously can't just give the game to free for everyone when it comes out, and I can't think of any incentives I can personally promise. I don't think BaseSon would have an opinion on it (they're getting paid and whatnot) and I messaged MangaGamer with a progress update. Once I got a response, the future of this project should get a whole lot clearer.

I'm not as optimistic towards the Kickstarter idea as I wanna be, but I'm hoping we'd at least be able to take some of the pressure off of MangaGamer so they wouldn't have to pay as much for the licensing fees. It technically makes no difference to me if we get it published or not, but that would be a really cool accomplishment for the team.

Well do keep us updated on it and I'll be happy either way, but ya if we could really get it published it will be awesome. A question, do have a vague idea how much the licensing fees would be.

Edit :

It's just a suggestion, but we should enlist the member's who are willing to help in this project, so we know how many are on this and who's will be doing what.

Best thing I can think of is read the game, make note of error's or things that don't make sense (I've found alot in Koihime Musou itself, and more in other fan translated games I've played over the year) then report them. That's about all I can think of since well I've never done anything else. I do always find it funny when the error's are so bad that makes the sentence fall apart.

Well any help is big help towards completing anything, and finding the errors like those are a very essential part of translating VN's, so make sure have a lot of free time when the translation is out in beta XD

Also, I was thinking it may be possible to start a Kickstarter to cover the licencing issues. Seems like that is our biggest roadblock right now.

I don't think an 18+ (pornographic) project has ever completed on Kickstarter.  Furthermore, from the Kickstarter project guidelines:

No offensive material (hate speech, etc); pornographic material; or projects endorsing or opposing a political candidate.

https://www.kickstarter.com/help/guidelines

Pornographic content is extremely problematic from a commercial and legal standpoint.  There are 18+ alternatives, but the cut they take is outrageous (Offbeatr's is like 30%).  Crowdfunding has been discussed by Mangagamer recently, and the conclusions weren't very rosy.

http://forums.mangagamer.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68

I'll repeat the usual refrain: the market is stuck until more people start paying for the content they consume.  That's the root problem.  Because of this, JAST is slow as hell, and Mangagamer shies away from more ambitious projects like Shin Koihime Musou.  Each trade-off represents an alternative strategy for tackling the same problem of insufficient resources due to insufficient funding from those who consume their titles.  Faster, better releases require more support than the current fanbase is willing to provide.  That's really all there is to it.

I wouldn't worry too much about most of the doom speech when using kickstarter (or any community project fund site) seeing as mangagamer  and/or BaseSon has to approve first and foremost anything money related done with this project or we end up with the cease and desist letter of doom for trying to make a profit of this as it is not our product. Worry number one right now should be do we have the people willing to help out with the project in the needed areas so we can have a 100% patch ready to show for our work to mangagamer (if we want it released still at that point in time). The money problem should come only second after that reality has come about, and if mangagamer can handle the cost from there.

I also agree, first and foremost important is that we get the translation project going. We should assemble all the people who are willing to help in this project and then get moving forward from that point towards translating the game.

Right now I think the only thing we're missing is an in-game editor/hacker to replace the Japanese dialogue with the English. Which is arguably the most irritating and tedious job.

Ya, finding someone like that will take some time, but I'll look through the translators registration area and try to get 1 or 2 for it, hope we get the editor/hacker soon.

If I knew what I was doing I would sign up for that job, but other then it all looking like random text numbers I wouldn't have a clue.

Same here. I'd help instantly if I knew that stuff, but my technical skills are....limited, to say the least.

More or less if I was pointed to the right spot and told where to type it all out in the code I could do it from there with a script (coding it simple from that point). It's getting into the hard code and figuring out where to start the translation script while deleting the japanese text is where I would fail.

Seems I found one hacker "some_loli_catgirl" and I've messaged him, and now waiting for his response cause he's offline right now, Well to say it fairly I would too say my knowledge about technical stuff is very limited.
