  1. Wow, you caught my post before I edited it . Thanks for spotting my work, I felt bad for sharing credit with Down when he included most of the links I provided, which is why I edited it. Although now that I look at it, there were a few original links I provided.
  2. I posted some links for Visual Novel Talk, but Down beat me to it and included all of the ones I had. So I just edited my post and got rid of the links.
  3. It saves!!!! It Finally F*cking Saves!!!! I...I love you!
  4. Thanks for the link. :)/>/> This is a step forward, I no longer have to skip through the prolouge before I can access the main menu. However, whenever I save it still crashes. :(/>
  5. That's It! I think I know the problem now! Okay, my folder does not have save1.dat, save2.dat etc. Could someone upload them? Or at least fix the Tsukihime torrent on fuwanorvel.org to include them. EDIT: Just tried this and the save files still don't appear. I also tried moving it to Program Files and Program Files(x86). Yeah, I think I need to download the save files or something because their not appearing.
  6. I checked, and it said I was the owner and that I had full control, so I don't think that is the issue. I think my problem is that the folder the game's directory is telling it to save to is not there, which is why it results in a crash. However, I don't know where the game saves it's data, I assumed it would be in the folder it is in, (like with most games). What I'm saying is just a guess though, I don't really know why it won't save. Also what is gloval.sav? I assume it's a save file, but it's not helping me.
  7. I ran the game with administrator privileges and the game still crashes whenever I save. Does it matter where my game is located? Because currently the folder that contains the game and all of it's files is on my desktop. Do I need it located at Program Files(x86)?
  8. I edited my first post in the format provided. Sorry, I should have done that from the start.
  9. Like what lol? I don't really know what I should do, I assumed everything would be taken care of with the download. I never had any problems with save data before. Occasionally I would have problems installing a game, but usually I could find a solution. But I've never dealt with a game that refuses to save.
  10. Good advice. I forgot there was a technical issues form. Thanks.
  11. Are you running your computer with Non-Unicode Japanese?: I am set my system locale to Japanese. Game: Tsukihime Description of Problem: I downloaded Tsukihime from this site. The game runs, however whenever I save the game it just closes. Then when I fire it up again it forces me to sit through the opening scene before I have access to the main menu, and my saves aren't their either :(/>/>. Your Operating System: Windows 7 64 bit. Are you running the correct, patched .EXE for the game? I believe the torrent Fuwanovel supplies is a patched version. Have you tried Uninstalling/Reinstalling and then Redownloading? Yes.
  12. Say, just recently I downloaded the game from this site. It will open up and work. However, the game crashes every time I save. I absolutely can't save any progress, and always have to witness the opening scene before I can access the title menu. By the way I'm using a windows 7. Can anyone help me?
  13. You say that like it's a bad thing, man. You get a higher variety of poontang by sticking to 2D, than the amount people would normally get by sticking to real girls. Anyway, I'm not saying anything; theoretically the author of the article might be but that's totally up to your interpretation.
  14. I looked at your profile earlier today because it said you were the newest member, and I remember finding it odd that you took the time to add a photo but not to post anything,(well, until you posted this :P/>). Anyway welcome here, and I did read the whole thing so does that make me great? Also you mentioned that Ever17 was one of your favorite VN's. I was actually intending to play that as my next VN, but it looks like I'm going to end up playing Rewrite first.
  15. I understand that feeling. I remember in high school their was an anime club. I thought it would be filled with people who loved, and valued anime as an art form as I did. Instead it was filled with a bunch of people who only watched Naruto, One Piece and stuff alike. I never did join that club, but thankfully I did manage to find someone who I was capable of debating interpretations of Serial Experiments Lain, and Monster. Also just out of curiosity how long did it take you to learn Japanese, and when did you start learning? I do agree with you on the that his reason, "for their cancelling of the project is paradoxical." However, I also think the author brings up a good point when he says, "They think because you don’t want to learn the language, you don’t deserve their sacred ambrosia (which is visual novels." (I'm not saying the translators think this way, but I know their are people out their who do). For people to look down on others for not having the time to invest to learn a language, is a very arrogant thought process, and one that I think is heavily flawed. I would like to thank everyone as well. I find the community here very nice and welcoming.
  16. I didn't intend to propose this as my own question, lol. I feel like people are responding to what I wrote, instead of the article. I'm more curious on whether people agree or disagree with what the author of the article I linked wrote. I would prefer for people to reply to their opinions of the article then they do of my poorly phrased question. I do to man. I really feel VN's are an unappreciated emerging art form; and their never get the attention they deserve unless they become popular in countries other than Japan.
  17. So around two years ago, (when I first started playing visual novels) I read this article. My link Recently I stumbled along this article again and would like to know other peoples opinions on this issue. I personally don't have much experience as an active participant in the western VN community so I wouldn't know. However, it seems to me that if their willing to spend years translating a game, they probably aren't that much of assholes. So, what are the opinions of people who have been involved far longer than I have? Edit: Please read the article before replying! I don't want people responding to what I wrote, rather I want them to respond on their opinions of the article I linked.
  18. (I don't feel particularly welcome on this specific thread, but I'll put my two cents in anyway). While I can live without violence and ero, I share your craving for metaphor and philosophy. Now I haven't played Steins;Gate, but I have watched the anime adaption. And I have to disagree with your accusation that it's fake. I at least interpreted That said I don't think Steins;Gate is at the same level as masterpieces such as Monster and Berserk, but I do put it on the same place that I view Death Note and Code Geass.
  19. I completely agree with you. To add on to what you've said, the style of story telling in VNs is so different than other genres of writing that I would even call it a bit revolutionary. To experience a story through the day by day life and perspective of a character, and have overarching themes present them self in the story, (and experience them first hand as the character) is a very unique and interesting method. I think what really allows for this difference in writing style is the fact that scenery and characters are already conveyed though visually artistic designs. So the writers don't have to worry as much about writing the physical details of something. This gives them the opportunity to write and convey their thoughts in a different way. Anyway, I think I might very well start a whole thread about this topic, since I still want to discuss this but I don't want to continue to derail this thread any more than it already has been.
  20. Your totally correct, I think the reason this thread was as actively discussed as it was, is because people get tired of the limited amount of VNs in English. Learning Japanese is a great alternative; but it's an alternative unavailable to me. I've never really been good at learning languages. Out of 3 languages I was exposed to as a baby, I was only able to learn English. Further proof that's its a poor skill of mine is that is that 2 out of the 3 language courses I took in my life I nearly failed. I suppose I'm a bit envious of people on this thread for not only understanding some Japanese, but are capable of learning more. Good luck anyway. learning Japanese will open the gates for Visual Novel heaven.
  21. I should honestly follow that same rule, although if I see a review of the anime it's hard for me not to have expectations. I should read less reviews. Your very right about when you realize how great an anime can be. That's the reason I believe spots on a top ten list are temporary, because there will always be something that comes along that will replace another anime's place on the list. And that's the reason why I believe people watch anime, to find one, (whether they expect it to be as good as it is or not) that they enjoyed as much if not even more than animes they loved previously.
  22. Just going to start off I rate my list based on the writing, story, characters, and most importantly deeper and metaphorical/allegorical meanings the show has. The more time I spent thinking about an anime and all the points it succeeded in conveying, the higher it is on my list. That said I'm still working on it and have only organized my top 6, so the order wont matter for 7-10. I'll also list a sentence for why I liked the show, or what it got me thinking about the most. Although truth be told I could write essays, and in some cases even books on why I though some of these animes were as good as they are, so by condensing my thoughts to a mere sentence I'm really simplifying my reasons. Anyway here I go: 1) Naoki Urasawa's Monster. (Its a complete masterpiece and I'm still deciphering some of the meanings it presented). 2)Berserk. (Really got me to consider Man's Ambition). 3)Kaiji (Season 1). (I interpreted most of the show to be an Allegory for Capitalism, wont say more then that). 4) Neon Genesis Evanglion. (Don't think I need to say much about this one since I'm assuming most people have watched it). 5) Serial Experiments Lain. (Actually in terms of metaphors and symbolism this show could have made it a bit higher on the list, but the other animes were solid stories as well, while this anime felt very experimental. Which is why its at 5, still a damn good anime though). 6)Akagi the Genius Who Descended Into darkness . ( I interpreted Akagi as the physical embodiment of Gambling itself). This is where I haven't really organized my list in terms of quality, so I suppose this half of the list will be dedicated for anime I enjoyed, but didn't feel was up to par with the anime in 1-6. 7) Death Note Code Geass 9)Haruhi Suzumiya, (in particularly The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya). 10) Kanon, (First anime that actually got me to treat anime more than mere entertainment, so this entry is pretty personal. Also as much as I liked Air, and Clannad they still couldn't best Kanon in my opinion).
  23. Sounds interesting, another anime to add to my list, number 30. Only 29 animes to watch till I get to this one. :P/> Nah not really I don't follow the order of my list, I just watch in the order I feel like watching something. Still doubt I'll get to this series anytime soon though, seeing as I still have Fate/Zero, and Full metal Alchemist on my list; just waiting for the right time to watch them. On another note, I've finally started watching Steins:Gate yesterday after having it on my list for over a year; and I have to say it's F*CKING Awesome. Just finished episode 9, and shit just got even more serious! It's been a good half a year since an anime has got me so hooked.
  24. Wait, on this thread we can only recommend non English translated VNs? I haven't played any non English translated VNs since I don't understand an inch of Japanese. =/ Judging from the activity on this thread though, it would seem I'm in the minority. I wish they taught Japanese when I went to High school, but the only languages they offered were Chinese, Spanish and Latin. =(
  25. I still can't believe my third attempt at Mizuki's route was successful. (My first two attempts resulted in my doing Aeka's route again. )
