  6. the collection grows. I usually don't buy anime merchandise, but I've been buying a figure or the last few years to anime boston. I'd get more but I don't really have room to put anything...
  7. Evangelion. I should start off with saying that I most of my hatred of this show is entirely because of the fanbase and not the show itself. the show was bad in my opinion, but the complete disregard for that opinion and the constant "down my throat" attitude I get from the fanbase for voicing that opinion when they bring up the show is obnoxious to the point that my dislike of the show has reached a hypocritical "down your throat" attitude as to why the show is bad and you should feel bad for liking it. that deep meaning and symbolism you're taking from any given episode? it doesn't exist. I am far too lazy to look up the article for the fourth time for this website, but feel free to go find it for yourself: the entire series is one gigantic Rorschach test. the series, by design, uses abstract symbolism to give each person watching it a different meaning. you're staring at a black blob on a white sheet of paper and telling everyone what you think you see. the writer wanted everyone watching it to see something different and be able to relate to each character in different ways from someone else watching the series. he wanted everyone to take something different from everything in the story. in theory it is absolutely brilliant. if a writer with any talent had that same idea the story could have ended up being amazing. however, all of the characters are horrendously shallow and are as relatable as the text typed on the little sheet of paper you find in a fortune cookie. the plot is so far out there I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the dude stole all of his ideas from episodes of the twilight zone. the villains look like something you'd expect to show up in a Godzilla movie. the mech design is interesting in concept, the living robot aspect is new and could have been pretty cool, but the cockpit system was garbage on a g-gundam level. i'm also not a fan of mechs that fire rounds with brass the size of the average sports utility vehicle, but that's whatever. and then there's the fan base itself. I have yet to have a conversation about the show without the eva fan overreacting and becoming rude/abusive towards whoever, usually me, has something negative to say about the show. it could be as harmless as "I didn't like the show" and the other person will get very angry. I said I didn't like the show, I didn't kick your dog or trip your grandmother. if you're incapable of having a civilized discussion about something, don't bring it up. if you didn't bring it up, don't get involved, or at the very least, stay far enough away from my face that I can't look into your eyes and see the dead hamster. it's fine if you like a show, it's fine if you don't. just keep in mind that your opinion is no better than anyone else's, especially mine.

  9. i'm not attracted to most humans, so the other beings that resemble humans would have to be pretty spectacular.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21yChQn1IIM and an amv called White Flowers, which I could not find, both had me misty eyed. was a few good ones this year.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwXE-k1U2gc compliments of Anime Boston 2014.
  12. at the end of each season I go back and pick up all of the anime I dropped and marathon them. I have nothing better to do with my days off, and I can finish a 12 episode length series in a little under 4 hours (I generally skip opening and ending credits after hearing them the first time). I usually go for 4 complete series per day when I do that. sometimes stuff happens and I only get through 3, sometimes I feel like sleep is for [insert opposite gender here] and pull 5-6. I could probably use a more constructive hobby.
  13. falls. it's not even the taste, it's the consistency. they're just gross. the next person needs to wash their face.
  14. #1: Plot and consistency. if you have a story to tell, tell it. don't go somewhere with it for one or two episodes, and then take a vacation until the final one or two episodes. this is the thing that will cause me to drop an anime faster than anything else. you can build strong characters without spending 10 episodes on filler in a 12 episode series. I don't need to know how many rotations in each direction every side character brushes their teeth after every meal, or that one dude we'll never even see mentioned again one time accidently kicked a puppy and it made him sad for five minutes. stay relevant, for f***'s sake. #2: Animation. it's cool that you have an interesting idea and I would totally like to see it, just not like this. sometimes bad animation can make a series better. most of the time, no. the absolute worst is when a series doesn't even have animated fight scenes, just motionless sprites slapping against each other. the absolute best is the 1000 frames per second (clearly exaggerated, ftr) spider man scenes in attack on titan. every fight scene should be animated with at least that level of quality. #3: my favorite girl doesn't end up alone and heart broken. last and most importantly, stop kicking dirt into the best character in the series' face. every time the protag goes for the emotionless scab instead of the loving and ever loyal childhood friend, I get the urge to fly out to japan and punch a kid in the face in the high hopes that I just stopped something like this from happening irl. i'm not entirely sure how it would stop this from happening irl, but at least I would feel better.
