  1. I saw the term, "pre-patched" come up a few times. I was wondering if anyone can clarify what that meant?
  2. A series that drove me to the point of pulling out my hair as Glasslip. I watched it, and suffered through it, but my policy of 'no dropping' had me hoping for something substantial at the end, even for a stereotypical open endning. But that one threw me off a cliff.
  3. Oh dear. I've been gone for a long time. It would be interesting to discuss what's been happening since then. That is if anyone is willing to take me, uguuuuu. Skype: clydewave
  4. Ugh I can't believe how bad I've gotten at these rhythm games. It's strange also that playing at the higher tempo has caused me to starting sucking at the easier slower modes too. It's all in shambles hah! I think I'll switch over to using the keyboard to click Try to avoid carpal tunnel that I can feel is oncoming if I don't take it easy meheheh
  5. What kind of setup do you guys prefer? Mouse only Keyboard Other crazy concoction?
  6. Hmm trying to think back to my personal favorites. (In no particular order) #Shadow of the Colossus (Something strangely serene playing this game) #Final Fantasy VII (Perhaps overrated but it was my first introduction into the RPG world when I was young and I still remember almost every little route in the game) #Pokemon Variant (Mainly the ones for the original gameboy renditions in black and white. Such a time sink here) #Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask #Lastly some fighting game variant, last I can remember pouring time into was Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, etc.
  7. Hi guys, long time no see. Just started Grisaia no Kajitsu and been enjoying it a lot. Quick question, does it matter which shortcut I open the program with? I have the Japanese title and English title version on both my desktop and start menu (Surprised to see that the file in the start menu had also changed to include this).
  8. I think everyone made a great point about the virtues of what it means to playthrough a visual novel. Or maybe more so on what a VN has to offer that makes it so uniquely different than other media forms. I guess it really does come down the individual to make a choice given what kind of VN (such that the type of routes or game system is possibly different company to company). I probably hoped for a way to combine VNs into a "common feature" but it's really not feasible given that each company have different goals for what their product will try and achieve. I'm not happy for this kind of skeptical answer but then again, at least I have this forum to vent off some of my frustrations. It's a lot more fun to discuss these kinds of things than to mull it over in my head!
  9. Ah I think I understand now. You go through each character's route multiple times and choose options that either lead to their specific route or move on to another character's route. I guess I got confused because Komari and Rin1 didn't have that kind of choice. Goes to show what a amateur I am at visual novels, haha.

    mahjong

I tried to learn how to play Mahjong once but I got lost after realizing that there were several versions of it depending on which rules you want to play by. If I remember correctly they were split uniquely by chance vs skill. It looks like a lot of fun, but I think I would have to go online for it (Not wanting to pour more time into the fiendish blue glowing screen).
  11. After playing a couple of visual novels, I've come across a feeling of regret that stem from a couple of issues I wonder if anyone else felt. In some cases there are visual novels that have had anime adaptations made. And while the adaptations may or may not well represent the story of the original VN, it does show enough plot and character development that makes me feel a bit "cheated" out of a brand new introduction of a well-done story. In the case of anime, there is no choice or paths to play, and so one must take the story as it comes. And while this may detract from some freedom and creativity, it does relieve some burden of "perfectionist" types to uncover every nook of truth. Lately any VN I've become interested in playing has me looking into walkthroughs on how to get the "best" routes and scenes. It's like being told the spoilers ahead of time and yet I would hate to play a VN that spans so many hours and only get a "bad" ending that isn't the main focus of the story. Given the situation of these dynamics, am I fretting too much?
  12. I understand the completing a girl's route will lock out her story but I'm talking about the choices made during the route of which some are labeled as "Required choice that will get locked after you've completed the character's route. Available again after Refrain". It seems that you can still continue within the route after making that choice, so I'm confused on the locked terminology for that specific choice.
  13. So that means that lock out choice is mandatory to pick to continue and not chooseable?
  14. So I'm pretty new to Visual Novels in general but am interested in playing through Little Busters after hearing good things about it. I've read some walkthrough guides to get a feeling on how to progress through the game but I'm confused by the terminology of "locked out". What does it mean when a required action that will get locked out? Is it saying that your choices are stuck and you have picked a certain path for that character (Though with saves, not sure how that works)? Sorry again for the probably real easy question. It just bothers my ocd tendency when it comes to things like this. Appreciate any input.
  15. Haha, my desk currently is one of the plastic lawn tables you would use for picnics and whatnot. It has a bunch of stuff on it, laptop, desktop monitor, printer, tons of water bottles that I've chugging down lately due to the flu/cold. It's hard to clean up when there's so much stuff, the dust bunnies just love to get everywhere.
  16. Ahh I'm so conflicted. I really got inspired to try and start drawing some anime/manga artwork that I really liked but I'm terrible at drawing. My best skills are the stick figures and even then I'm shaky :o/> . I'm hoping to purchase some how-to books, but I have no idea where to start and it makes me sad, haha.
  17. It's been a strange situation for me personally. I've always been strongly inclined to give more credit to the original work of the series, which usually would be the visual novel in this case. But there are times when the anime adaptation is just so well done, that I'm able to enjoy and connect on a deeper level to the characters and plot. Perhaps it depends on the goal of series whether to develop a plot through incremental routes or try to be entertaining for animation sakes.
  18. Man it's hard to list a favorite anime. Anytime I try to name one, I think of another that I liked equally as much. But to list a few: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, Beck Mongolian Chop Squad, Ef: A Tale of Memories/Melodies, Durarara!!, FLCL, Full Metal Panic, Samurai Champloo, Toradora, Star Driver... Too many to list, but there's a few I remember enjoying a lot.
  19. Thanks for the kind words everyone. I did get the visual novel up and running but I'm really clunky with the controls so far and accidentally used the CTRL key and skipped several scenes at first haha. I'm really enjoying it so far and hope for the best!
  20. Yeah it's strange, I got it working after re-trying a couple times. But what's with the 1) file that says "Run DTLite? I ran that file accidentally and it doesn't do anything?
  21. Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself as someone new to the world of visual novels. To tell you the truth, my first exposure into the world of animation was probably back in my early high school years when certain friends of mine showed me some of the mainstream anime series in the US like "Bleach". Ever since that time, I've become much more well-versed into other series and genres, and what soon followed were manga and light novels. I always knew about visual novels but for some reason, I always had some hesitation for playing them. It was one of those things that I felt uncomfortable starting, perhaps because not many people I knew played them. But for some reason after watching the recent series, Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, I felt compelled to read more into the series. Then I found out that there were so many other works in conjunction to the Muv-Luv series, I had already watched "Kimi ga Nozomu Eien" and didn't know that there were connections to that! And so I decided that during my winter break from college courses, that I would try the Muv-Luv series. And while Extra doesn't appeal to me for the School/Slice of Life genre, I'm wanting to play through it for Unlimited and Alternative. Sorry if I went rambling and I feel that I didn't really get to explain myself more clearly. But perhaps in my time here, I'll be able to make better contributions. Thank you Aaeru and team for allowing me to find such a wonderful place!
  22. Hi guys, this is my first post of the forums. This is the first visual novel game that I have ever tried to play, so it is a big step for me and I am very excited to try it out. But I have been having a couple of issues that have been stopping me: 1. During the installation of the mounted image, I get an error message that says: "Error: loader couldn't initialize service!" 2. After playing around with the error message from step 1, I was able to install it properly and tried to run the English patch next. Another error came up and I chose to click the ignore button to allow it to finish. 3. I pressed the "Game Start" button I got the same message from step 1: "Error: loader couldn't initialize service!". 4. As a side note, I accidentally ran the application that read: "Run DTLite.exe inside the above folder" without thinking it was just instructions. It's the file inside that is called Step 1 and made by company Dead'Soul. Was it harmful to run this file? Nothing happened so far. Thank you for any feedback.
